Warning -->
    This RP is rated R and will contain mature content. If you are unable to handle this type of material, this is NOT the RP for you and I suggest you find another board.

These are the Rules and Regulations for [SIU] Shake It Up, which we ask you to read thoroughly and follow to the best of your ability.

General Rules -->
    » First and foremost, we want you to have fun and enjoy your stay here at [SIU] Shake It Up, which is a RP aimed at mature players (intermediate to advanced) looking for extensive, real-life RPing different from the many other RPs popping up nowadays. If you should happen to run into a problem that makes your RPing experience un-enjoyable, contact an Admin. Don't try to handle the situation yourself, as that may lead to an unnecessary confrontation; we don't want that, nor do we need it.
    » Absolutely NO flaming! Flaming (or harassment) will NOT be tolerated, so don't do it. Flaming includes, but is not limited to: racial slurs, intolerance shown toward sexual or religious preferences, PM soliciting, etc. If flaming should occur, you will get one warning and one warning only. If the problem continues, you will be banned. Respect the members of SIU, as the age old saying goes: Treat others as you want to be treated, and if you want to be treated rudely well, that's just weird, just don't do it to our members!
    » No spamming the board. This includes PM soliciting, as well. Refrain from double posting, unless it's allowed in a specific forum (such as the Thread Request, Photo Albums and Journals) and avoid posting one worded, pointless posts just to up your post count. Keep advertisements of other RP boards in the appropriate forum.
    » There is an age limit of 14 for members of this board, remember that when registering. If you have been caught lying about your age you will be banned indefinitely. You must be at least 15 years of age to take part in a Mature thread.
    » Participation is key. If you have not posted your character sheet within 3 days of your registration, your account will be deleted. Your account will also be deleted if you are inactive for more than two weeks. We will be doing monthly sweeps of inactive characters so remember to stay active, as we don't want to RP to die 1/2 weeks in! If you're aware that you'll be away from the computer for more than 2 weeks, make sure to post a notice in the appropriate forum.
    » When registering, use your Character's first, middle and last name as the username. No first names only and no first/last names only. Good Example: Anna Lindsay Buckingham. Bad Example: decaying_dollie, Anna or Anna Buckingham. If you register with an improper name, your account will be deleted and you will have to re-register. Please, keep the last names realistic. Last names such as "Panic" or "Morphine" will not be allowed, unless your character is a stripper, a porn star or a SuicideGirl. Also keep in mind that you must use a valid e-mail address when registering because you will need it for validation later.
    » Characters are required to be Accepted before any RPing takes place (except for "Throughout Downtown"). We are allowed to deny anyone we feel isn't ready to RP at SIU and we have the right to suggest changes to any characters. When filling out a Character Sheet, you are required to fill out every applicable field before posting it. Do not post an incomplete character sheet as it will be deleted. Also, keep in mind to put your Character's name (first and last) in the Title but leave the Title Description blank, as an Admin. will add whether or not the character is Accepted, Denied, or Needs Changes.
    » Absolutely NO chat-speak whatsoever! (Example: d00d ch3ck that 0ut!!!!! Thats hawt!!!!1111). It will not be tolerated IC or OOC so avoid doing it completely. Also, no smilies are allowed IC. We would also appreciate it if you would use complete, well-formed sentences with proper grammar and punctuation. If you notice typos in your post, go back and edit, don't just leave them. Spell check is your friend, really, use it!
    » There will be mature content on this board, both IC and OOC. This mature content includes, but is not limited to: cursing, erotica, talk/actions of abuse, talk/actions of rape, talk/actions of self-mutilation, etc. If any of this is going to bother you, don't join. If your topic started out innocent but turned mature and needs the title edited, politely ask an Admin. to do so.
    » Always remember to mark the title of your thread! Whether it's something completely PG, or something NC-17, all threads need a tag! We have four types of tags here: Open, Private, Mature, and Closed. Please read these thread titles carefully, as they may be a bit different than some of the other role play boards.
    -- Open: The thread occupant(s) are willing to let others join, and more often than not are even looking for others to join. Specify how many members can join, to prevent a large mass of people.
    -- Private: The thread is intended for specific occupants. A private thread is usually a pre-planned thread between several people. While it doesn't have to be 'pre-planned,' a private thread means that another member, who isn't specified on the list may not enter the thread (unless it's a staff member). If you would like to join a private thread, PM the author of the thread and ask to join, but don't be surprised if you are turned down and definitely don't start flaming the author just because they said no. Remember to specify who the thread is for (example: Tag;; Bob).
    -- Mature: The thread contains content not suitable for the faint of heart. If you're easily offended, avoid threads marked Mature. Adult content may include, but is not limited to, strong language, drug/alcohol use, violence, and/or sexual situations. These threads will be for those who are mature enough to handle sexual intercourse, violence, rape, and/or anything that would be rated R in a theater. Remember to specify who the thread is for.
    -- Close: All occupants have 'left' the thread and it is ready to be locked by a staff member. When you are finished you MUST put this tag in the title. Abandoning a thread and making the staff wonder if it's finished or not is not an option. We are neat freaks here at SIU and we ask you to be considerate and tell us when you are finished with a thread.
    + Remember: A staff member may enter a thread at anytime if they deem it is necessary.
    » Read the title! If it says Private it means there is a private gathering and you can only play in that thread if you have permission or an invitation. Likewise if it says Mature, it contains content that should not be read if you are easily offended by adult and/or sexual, violent, etc. material.
    » Always respect the staff, as well as our rules. Sure, we may seem strict and mean sometimes, but we do what we do because we want our members to have fun, and we do so without any payment in return, other than watching our members enjoy our RP. If an Admin. contacts you to correct a violation, we expect you to comply with little to no defiance. If we encounter disrespect from a member, that person will be suspended from the board for a week. Should the problem continue, that person will be banned indefinitely.
    » Thread-Jacking is a BIG no-no! If someone starts a thread it probably means they want to RP in it. Don't join someone else's thread with one or more of your buddies and post your own 3 page storyline, ignoring the original thread creator. You take turns, much like a board game. If a staff member finds you jacking a thread, you will be warned publicly. If you suspect that a person has abandoned a thread, and you wish to keep it open, please PM a staff member for approval of continuing the thread without the inactive character.
    » No plot stealing! How often is a character killed or raped in a school? Once every few years? Less? If somebody kills/rapes their character do not copy by killing/raping your own. If you're desperate to liven up a dull character, come up with your own dire plot. It is very irritating when things are obviously copied.
    » If your character has officially left a thread, make an OOC note of it at the bottom of your last post. This is so that the staff knows what threads to lock and what threads to leave open. It is impolite to abandon a thread to make a space in your new thread. If your character hasn't gone inactive, you must either actively leave the thread with a marked OOC note, or play the thread out for it's duration. As far as active threads go, I won't put a restrictuon on them, just please keep all your threads going on around the same time. All RPing in all the threads must follow a consistent time-line.
Role-Playing Rules -->
    » Absolutely NO Mary Sue's or Gary Stu's. It's a character that upstages everyone, is prettier than everyone, is more powerful than everyone, is more popular than everyone, and is NEVER wrong ... In other words, it's a totally unrealistic and very boring character. It wouldn't be fun if everyone's character was perfect, would it? We also ask that you do not have your character be "admired" and "loved" by the public, wherever they go. Wolf whistles and adoration by the unseen "people in the background" is not the right way to get across that your character is attractive. Please find a more subtle way to RP!
    » Please, Please, PLEASE no sympathy plots. They are one of the things that make RPing a lot less enjoyable. Not only that but it is extremely annoying. Example: 'Bob sank to the floor, crying and screaming. He ignored the people who were trying to comfort him, he hated himself so much. "I WANT TO DIE! KILL ME!" He screamed, clawing at his own face, creating long deep gashes. "No don't comfort me! I just want to die!"'
    » If you have a major plot planned that involves more than one character, it must be explicitly explained, then all Staff must vote on it (the whole board if it will affect everyone). If the plot is approved, all characters must agree to be involved. Pregnancies and death are included in this and it is required that you ask an Admin. for permission before this happens.
    » Absolutely NO God-Moding (AKA controlling another person's character)! This behavior will not be tolerated and anyone caught doing so will get one warning and one warning only! If, however, the character’s owner gives you permission to move their character, please state so in a small OOC note at the bottom of your post. This saves the Admin. (and you, for that matter) a lot of trouble.
    » Do not post one-liners! Add in your character's thoughts, add in some description of their surroundings or their self - Paint a picture with words. Give the others in your thread something to work with ... Something to react to. We will allow the occasional devastatingly short post as we've all experienced Writer's Block, but don't make a habit of the behavior. This is a literate RP so we insist that you use at least 5 good sentences when replying. If someone should do more, say 2 paragraphs, we ask that you please put that much effort into your response. It isn't fair for RPers to put a lot of effort into their post in order for you to turn around and give a response with only two sentences. Common courtesy people.
    » You may have a maximum of 4 characters here at SIU. No more than that unless you can guarantee 100% they all will be active. In this case, the extra character request must be approved by all Admin. before a Character Sheet is posted and we ask that it please be a male, as the male:female ratio is often one sided. If you're interested in RPing a Canon Character you may do so but you're only allowed one and it counts against your limited amount of characters.
    » IC vs. OOC - You must keep what your character knows separate from what you know. This means that if you learn something (OOC) about someone else’s character by reading their threads, chatting to the person controlling them, reading something in their journal or anywhere else, you may not use it when you role play unless that piece of information was told to your character or he/she was there when it happened. Characters can only know what they have personally experienced.
    » Keep OOC posts to a minimum in the RP areas and NO smilies are ever allowed in the RP area.
    » Make sure to keep all IC posts in the third person. We don't have any restriction on the RP format but there must be an obvious difference between thought, speech and action. Good Example: Jimmy walked into the dimly lit classroom and looked around. Where is everyone? He asked himself before spotting a good friend of his. He quickly sat in the desk next to him and jabbed him in the shoulder before saying, “Hey there!Bad Example: I walked into the dimly lit classroom and looked around. where is everyone? i asked myself before spoting a good frend of mine i quickly sat in the desk next to him and jabed him in the shoulder before saying, hey there!
School Rules -->
    » If a student is late to class, they will be punished. (First time = Warning. Second time = Five minute detention in the Library. Each time after that, add five minutes to the detention). In other words, don't make your character late to every class, every single day, that's just annoying.
    » If a student is caught skipping class, they will be banned from a specific privilege (such as horse back riding, leaving campus, etc.) for three days. Each time after that, it's five days. Same as above.
    » Lights out at 10 o'clock on School Nights (Sunday-Thursday), 11 o'clock on Fridays and 12 o'clock on Saturdays, no exceptions. Students are allowed to stay awake in their dorms as long as they'd like, but no one is allowed to be wandering the school or the grounds after Lights Out. Same thing.
    » Student are allowed ONE pet in their dorm (with the exception of boarding horses). No extraordinary pets. Pets are limited to cats, dogs, fish, reptiles, arachnids, domestic birds, and rodents (horses don't count toward the Dorm pet count).
    » Students may be denied the privilege to attend special events (such as a dance or a concert) if they're behavior is too bad.
    » Electronic devices (such as walkmans, MP3 players, cell phones, etc.) are not allowed in the classrooms nor in the library.
Avatar/Signature Rules -->
    » Avatars cannot be wider than 160 Pixels and cannot be taller than 250 Pixels. Avatars exceeding this size will automatically be re-sized.
    » Signatures can be no taller than 600 Pixels, no wider than 300 Pixels and may not contain more than 1000 Characters. Keep the amount of pictures/text in your signature to a minimum, we'd like our pages to load in a decent amount of time, with as little scrolling as possible. If you're using icons in your signature, we ask that you use no more than 5. Be careful with your signature's layout as we wouldn't want to stretch the board.
    » Any and all Avatars/Signature must contain a picture of a real person, whether it's a super model, actor/actress, singer, unknown model, or someone from MySpace. Drawing/anime/cartoon dolls are not allowed. Remember to post your portrayal in the Face Claim as soon as you've been accepted.
    » Never claim another's work as your own. Whether it's someone's avatar, signature, a character's look, a personality, a plot, or history; it is all considered stealing and it will not be tolerated. Give the proper credit where it's due!
    » Take caution to what you put in your Av/Sig - Anything the Staff considers insulting, or the members complain about, will be asked to be removed. If the content is not removed in a timely fashion, it will be forcibly removed.
Cbox Rules -->
    » You must either be a member of [SIU] Shake It Up or a Guest interested in joining with a quick question to post in the Cbox. We ask that you do refrain from posting under Anonymous.
    » Avoid Multi-Posting, or Spamming as it's known to some. Double posting in the Cbox is acceptable but no more than 3 posts in a row.
    » No flaming or arguing within the Cbox. If after being verbally reprimanded the fighting continues, both parties will receive a Warning and don't think we can't find out who you are just because you haven't used your character's name. If the bickering is serious enough to be taken to the Cbox, contact an Admin. to work something out.
    » No advertising of any kind on the Cbox. Advertising consists of posting a link in the e-mail/url field and asking people to check it out or simply posting a link in the message field. It is unacceptable and inappropriate.
-- To assure the Admin. (the ones approving your character sheets) that you have thoroughly read all the rules and agree to them completely, we ask that you please put the following statement ("Panic! At The Disco rules all!") under the appropriate field of the Character Sheet.

+ Note: Rules are always subject to change at any time and should be checked over frequently.
