Police say it's almost as if Rebecca Slaughter just disappeared.

Rebecca Slaughter's son reported her missing on July 15th. Police found her car on the 17th in Garrett County, Maryland. Troopers searched her vehicle.

"No info found on that," says Sgt. Harold Sperringer with the Morgantown Police Department.

They searched the area.

"Found nothing."

And they searched her house.

"With no results."

On July 11th, Slaughter made purchase at Pet Co in Morgantown. On July 12th, she was at Streets Store in Masontown. And that was the last anyone saw or heard from Rebecca Slaughter. Sperringer is stumped.

"We've had every detective in the department working on this," he says.

They've tracked phone records and credit cards. In 16 days, police have only gotten one tip. Over the weekend, someone believes they may have seen her.

"There's nothing that indicates it was her," says Sperringer. "Just someone who looked like her."

Morgantown Police have only had one other case where a missing person has never been found. Marsha Carol Ferber has been missing since 1988.

"There's been the same thing, " says Sperringer. "No leads on her whereabouts whatsoever."

Ferber disappeared on April 25th at 123 Pleasant Street. No one's seen her since. Sperringer says he doesn't want Slaughter's case to wind up like Ferber's.

Detectives will go back to where Slaughter's vehicle was found and search the area one more time. But after that...

"I'm not sure where we go from there," says Sperringer.

Details of Disappearance

Ferber was last seen departing from her nightclub, The Underground Railroad, in Morgantown, West Virginia on April 28, 1988. The business was located in the 100 block of Pleasant Street at the time. Ferber left her vehicle, purse and other personal belongings at her residence. There were rumors that Ferber had traveled to Florida or Jamaica after her disappearance, but authorities were unable to find any evidence to confirm the speculation. Ferber opened The Underground Railroad in 1982. The establishment reflected her liberal political views and taste in music, all the while promoting equality. Ferber's friends and employees kept the bar open for a year after her disappearance, but The Underground Railroad was eventually sold to another owner.

Ferber's family members reside in Maryland and New York. She lived in Massachusetts before relocating to West Virginia in the 1970s.

Some agencies may list April 25, 1988 as the date of Ferber's disappearance.
