Thought this might be of interest, in honor of Google's 10th birthday you can switch to the 2001 version of Google and see pages that were on the web in 2001.

This could be useful for finding old articles on does, missing persons, or maybe even info on people from before they were missing.

Too bad I'm at work and can't really take advantage of it, but I plan to do some power searching when I get home.

When I looked at the url's on the 2001 Google, I realized there is a way to go back anytime... I haven't really messed with it yet but here's the site that can take you back to old web pages back to 1996...

I'm actually having some trouble figuring it out. I tried to get other dates of Google and it worked (brought up the main page) but when I tried to put something in the Google search boxes I got an error.

I was just messing with it some more, it looks like Google has a block on all their searches (website owners can block their archives from being accessed) and have only unblocked 2001 for today...

So basically you have to know the exact website address of the site you want to go to, and when you enter it, it will give you a choice of dates to pick from. They claim to be working on a way that we can search by keyword instead of having to know the exact URL.
