Authorities recovered the body of a man in a Scottsdale Ranch lake Wednesday, a day after giving up the search for a man who was reported missing.

Around 11:20 a.m. Wednesday, someone from a lakeside home called Scottsdale police and said a body had surfaced, Public Information Officer Dave Pubins said. The Phoenix police dive team was called to provide help recovering evidence with the body.

“At this point, we believe that the likelihood exists that this is the same person that we were looking for (Tuesday),” Pubins said. “However, we can't confirm that until he is removed from the lake and the body is identified.”

Kevin McDonald, 39, of Scottsdale was reported missing Tuesday. After the death investigation, it will become a medical examiner's case, Pubins added.

A body recovered from a Scottsdale lake Wednesday was identified as the man reported missing there a day earlier.

Police pulled Scottsdale resident Kevin McDonald, 39, out of Lake Serena in the Scottsdale Ranch community.

McDonald told his friend that he was going to swim in the lake shortly before 11ƒ|a.m. Tuesday. Around the same time, Scottsdale police received a 911 call from another lakeside resident who saw an adult man wearing tan shorts go under water and not resurface.

McDonald's friend also had told police that McDonald had been wearing tan shorts, said Officer Dave Pubins, Scottsdale police spokesman. Scottsdale police and firefigthers, joined by Tempe firefighters and the Phoenix police dive team, used special sonar equipment to search the murky water Tuesday afternoon.

The teams called off their search around 6ƒ| p.m. without any results, Pubins said.

Meantime, a missing-persons report was filed for McDonald, police said. On Wednesday, Scottsdale police received another call from a lakeside home with the news that a body had surfaced. Scottsdale police and firefighters returned to the lake but waited for the Phoenix police dive team to arrive.

¡§We did not want to disturb any possible evidence on the body,¡¨ Pubins said.

McDonald was covered in a blue tarp as officers brought his body to the bank and removed him from the water.
