Description: Need help

One of my "pet" cases involves a well shaved and crew cut young man from 1977, during a time when long hair and facial hair was the norm. Methinks he was military and perhaps AWOL but where does one start? Very few military AWOLS are listed on missing person sites and short of contacting Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine CI units what else can we do? Any ideas.

The John Doe by the way is here http://www.theyaremissed.org/ncma/gallery/...php?U200700068S
... handsome boy. I'm sure someone is missing him.

first thing to do would be to check where the vehicle was stolen from and see if there is a base nearby... I would also say this guy is on the upper end of the age bracket they have given.... I wonder if they ran fingerprints??? was the lighter given to him or did he get it from the stolen car ( was the car owners name John)?
since he did steal a vehicle, was he a fugitive or absconder? I would imagine with stealing a car, it wasn't the first thing he had ever stolen. He had a lighter, was there cigarettes in his possesion, or did he use it for smoking pot?
I think this guy could be searched out, but you need somemore info on the case.
especially where the car was stolen from.
