Title: Wake up idiots

travi - December 7, 2007 01:11 PM (GMT)
This forum has only had 2(now 3) posts in the last week. Wake up and post. You don't really want this forum dead do you?

Hey travi. Do you know what happened to masko?

Unfortunately it's not exactly the users and forums we should be blaming, its the Spore team and PR teams involved who are releasing little to no new information.

We know the game is complete. They say they're doing minor tweaks and taking fan ideas to 'possibly' include into the game if they're popular enough. It's been delayed time and time again and two years ago we were all convinced we'd have it by now (or pretty soon here with the coming of the holiday season) but alas we still don't have it.

People just aren't as hyped for Spore anymore, unfortunately :(

travi - December 8, 2007 02:51 PM (GMT)
Not sure what happened to masko. He was like the main topic starter here so without him the activity we did have is gone. Also I really don't care for spore right now either and probably won't until a month before it comes out.

Strabo - December 8, 2007 09:51 PM (GMT)
I'm beginning to be think that EA canceled it.

Ace - December 9, 2007 01:05 AM (GMT)
News is dreadfully slow. I listen to gaming podcasts and such, and Spore has been mentioned twice in the last year - once just in mention and another about being able to play it at Leipzig. That's it. EA/Maxis has pretty much screwed the whole Spore community by letting no new news out. We have nothing to talk about so people simply leave.

Keys - December 9, 2007 04:18 AM (GMT)
Unfortunately it's not Maxis that's to blame for the lack-of-information as it's EA who's calling the shots here.
Will has always has a knack (at least that I noticed) for letting off valuable information when he felt it was needed and keeping the community pumped (as was the case with the Sims 2 where we were bombarded by information.)

I'm willing to bet my apartment and job though that once Spore comes out we'll get a RUSH of new members coming in eager to find the 'latest cheats' discuss creatures, gain ideas, and just generally rant about how great Spore and their own personal creatures are. Right now the Spore community is just hibernating.

and on the Leipzig, apparently EA screwed over the news representatives who were attending. Promising to get a personal hands-on exerpeince to play the game and see how it's going.. Instead they were given a 30 minute demonstration that showed off the 2nd and 3rd stages (animal and tribal) with a small preview of the 4th/5th (civ/space)
I've been hearing ideas and rumors of early next year, say Feb. or March. Let's just hope they don't toss it back a few more years like they've been doing.

I don't know who's in charge of sales and ideas at EA/Maxis but they've definitely got the wrong idea if they think delaying the game over and over will increase hype and want.

Ace - December 10, 2007 04:39 AM (GMT)
They're the largest gaming company in the world - they can do it and still make money.

Except that they've got to watch themselves - EA just got totally pwned by Vivendi and Activision who merged and are now quite a bit larger than EA. Hopefully this will make EA think their strategies through a bit.

travi - December 10, 2007 01:00 PM (GMT)
I say we riot.
WHAT DO WE WANT?
SPORE!
WHEN DO WE WANT IT?
NOW!!!!!!

Dont bet on it. I dont know who here remembers but i belive Sims was a 2 year delay before it was released . EA has always been bad at scedules and publicity . In a way i wish Maxis would brak away from EA cause they were always better without them and quite honestly i think EA is Abusing Maxis

You would think with the sucsess of sims and sims 2 EA would trust Will and the Maxs team but thus far it doesent look like thats the case

EA abuses everyone, lol. They get their grubby hands on something and abuse it to death. But we can't bring that to their attention because they have admittedly brought us excellent games (a'la Sims of course) so it's a catch-22.. to me at least. They like to do as they please and end up getting away with it which sucks... but we also get great stuff.

CoffeeFreak4Life - December 11, 2007 10:20 AM (GMT)
Last i checked Maxis brought us Sims. Dident you notice Maxis was the first company that poped up on Sims 1 not EA. SIm CIty as well which was PRE EA which spawned a whole genre of games .its pretty much Will's trade mark to go out on a limb when it comes to games not EA

travi - December 11, 2007 02:07 PM (GMT)
EA abuses me in a naughty way....

I was refering to Sims 2. While Maxis developed the game (as with Spore here) It is EA who is calling the overal shots to the game timeline. If they like the IP. When they want it released. What the budget is for the game.

My point was.

Although we may not like them and they may be a greedy corporation like all others.. they do pop out some good stuff. Whether or not it was MAXIS that produced the game or not.. They are still apart of EA. In the corporate world that means EA produced the game with the partnership of MAXIS. Not "A mexis game with the help of EA"

I post almost daily on every forum I go to so yeah, you won't have to worry about me not posting.

Well awesome, Welcome aboard! Lol. Good to see we're at least not completely dead and getting new members!
It's quiet around here for the most part, but the members here are pretty nice.. when they decide to poke out of their little holes and say hi at least!

Wintersun - January 3, 2008 11:13 PM (GMT)
Well i seriously seen much dead'er forums than this. I don't think it's that bad here.

travi - January 5, 2008 03:21 AM (GMT)
It goes in cycles. Sometimes it'll go about a week or two without there being any posts and then somebody will kill the silence and people will post again for a while. I really don't think activity will die out that much for a while. :)

Wintersun - January 5, 2008 08:04 AM (GMT)
Yeah that's common with many forum boards, but on different time scales if you know what I mean.

Keys - January 6, 2008 03:56 AM (GMT)
I'm willing to bet cash as well, Spore has been slated for Q2 2008 by Maxis/EA on it's release. It's now Q1 2008. So pretty soon here i'm guessing we'll get a steady release date and then the member numbers start to go up as it gets closer to release.. and when it's released? Insta-members almost overnight from all the excited fans.

Wintersun - January 6, 2008 10:23 AM (GMT)
yeah, that'll probably happen, but is this the only Spore Forum board?

Ace - January 6, 2008 06:14 PM (GMT)
It is only a Spore forum in the sense that it is our main topic of discussion. However, many of the members here enjoy other EA games, so we have a Sims 2 board (most members here have played) and a few other random boards. I doubt we would survive if we didn't have the Chat board.

travi - January 6, 2008 10:40 PM (GMT)
Ace, have you ever thaught of getting a domain name? sporeforums.com is still open.

Wintersun - January 7, 2008 12:38 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I think sporeforum.com would be better for a domain.

CoffeeFreak4Life - January 7, 2008 02:59 AM (GMT)
We dont really die its more like.....hibernate

Wintersun - January 7, 2008 08:33 AM (GMT)
Hah, well said.
