Title: A small ethical problem bout Sims 2
Strabo - December 13, 2006 04:39 AM (GMT)
Most of you know how my Sims 2 game got all corrupted on me because my disk got scratched. I don't want to pay $13 (to get it replaced) for a game I already paid $50 for. . . that $13 could go to an expansion.
Well, do you think it's alright to download it via BitTorrent?

thats your call but what i do when a disk gets scratched beyond repair is buy the expansion and DADA i don't need the disk anymore

Exactly. You have already hereby purchased the game and the company has received your money for that game. So why would it be illegal to download something you already bought?
Think of it like TiVo or DiVo (dish network's TiVo spin-off). You pay the price for watching your shows on Television using their service. You have thereby paid your way into a private showing of your show. Now TiVo also gives you the option to record that program so you can watch it again in the future... thats not illegal and if you look at it all metaphoricly(sp) its fairly much the same thing.
The reason why they charge you the $13 for a replacement is cost of materials (+ some... 'minor' inflation) and shipping. Its an alternate way to earn small funds from those unfourtunate enough to loose their product. Downloading is legal so long as you have purchased the origional copy of the game.

I forgot how much fun Sims 2 was :)
Edit: But the build mode doesn't work for some reason

I've heard of problems with build mode not working after someone downloads the game. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to fix it since all the people who came to Sims 2 Talk with that problem had downloaded the game illegally (unlike you, they had not purchased the game first) so we always deleted posts like that. Sorry.

Right now, I'm gonna have to put off sending it back for a while. I'm spending my money on my EVE addiction. :) But man is it worth it. I already have a Merlin, Bantam, and Caracal. It's good to have high-level friends. ;)

Yes, my brother got it via torrent as well. I tried it but I was also dissappointed on how it was not possible to create new houses. I haven't gotten the full version from buying (yet); however, I am planning on getting it sometime in the future when I'm not too busy.

Well, I finally found a fully working copy of Sims 2, and my character has quickly become a fat slob. Get back to that treadmill!
