Title: Warcrack (World of Warcraft)
Ace - July 2, 2006 04:46 PM (GMT)
Has anyone delved into this game much. I can remember a few people mentioning it.
I just downloaded the 10-day trial two days ago. It seems pretty fun, but I can't believe people pay $15 a month for this! It seems to be nearly the same as Guild Wars and GW is free!
If anyone has, could you please give me some tips. I'd really like to learn this game better, but it seems to be uncooperative with me...they don't give enough helpful hints and tips along the way and with no manual, I'm as blind as a bat.

I think he didn't buy it, he said 10-day trial...

well they think there is a downlaod manual
Ace - July 3, 2006 03:00 AM (GMT)
But they never advertised it. So that's keeping people from buying the product because they can't figure how to use it without searching for a manual.

Warcrack: Your Anti-Job
It didn't really impress me. What with the money that you pay (that's $180 a year to play some mmorpg) you can buy yourself something that doesn't need payments that rival your gasoline bill in terms of shock value. There is a lot in the game, but the graphics are aged, and it is pretty much all the mmorpgs, but a tad better. Sure, it's better than Guild Wars, but Guild Wars is free.
It all depends on whether or not you want to fork out that $180 yearly bill, but if you like it. . . Go for it.
Ace - July 3, 2006 04:19 PM (GMT)
Well, you see, that's the thing. I have plenty of fun with Guild Wars (don't play it much, though) and it's free. But when I saw the trial, I wanted to see if this game was all it was cracked up for.
I think you can actually get it for about $140 a year if you pay every sixth months. But that's still too much.

Are they? I'm in some other realm...not sure which one. But I have a Night Elf Druid. I thought the whole transforming into animal thing would be cool, but so far I haven't accomplished much.

WoW has 8 million subscribers. That pay $30 per month.
So. . . 8x30=240.
Now, add nine zeroes.
$240,000,000,000.
That's how much revenue they make in A MONTH.
They're gonna get another couple hundred billion from everyone buying Burning Crusade.
So. . . yeah.
I don't see why this expansion isn't free.
Of course, they probably only make like $5 billion each month in profit, after they pay their employees and their servers.

Every company, every business, does this. They create products that people dive into. Products people love and want, products people demand. When World of Warcraft first came out and hit shelves it was gone over night. Supplies were empty handed along side the retailers who had sold faster than they could imagine. Now the expansion is out and the same thing has happened.
I play World of Warcraft in my spare time because there isn't anything else to do around here and the girlfriend plays it to so i can't complain.
They do make alot of money, but figure out how much it costs to pay the checks of a 150+ team that works in multiple shifts to work on the game.
How much does it cost to run those 100+ servers they have running for each NATION.
How much did it cost them to fund the creation of the new expansion pack.
How much did it cost them for fees in taxes and deductions from the government and owning corporations?
They still make alot of money as a corporation, but not as much as you think.
people seem to think that creating a video game will cost the company a somewhere around the lines of... what? 150,000? Maybe 250,000 at the most? Hardly. The average video game nowadays costs around 2-20m to create and any revenue is quickly sucked up in post-projects, paychecks, and advertisement to get the product to sell to pay for those. Believe me, advertisement on a large corporate scale is friggen expensive. more than you, or I have ever held in our lives goes into advertising for the simplest of things.
Whats left over is stashed away for the next project and expenses to be spent. its a continual process though i won't lie. They do obtain a steady increase in their wallet size!
On another note.
The world is greedy.

What?
Wait, what?
Oh, and Keys: At the bottom of my post, I had a little part that said they probably only have 5 billion of profit. So. . . yes, I was taking that stuff into account. But my guess is probably horribly off.
But oh well. Lets not start a flame over this. We both had good points. And yes, I forgot completely about taxes and stuff.
Ace - January 25, 2007 03:57 AM (GMT)
Meh...a note:
First of all, you did your calcuations wrong, Strabo. While they DO have about 8 million, they pay $15 a month.
8,000,000x15=120,000,000
Obviously, that's per month...so...that is, per year:
120,000,000x12=1,440,000,000
So...that's a lot of money per year...
Strabo - January 28, 2007 07:08 AM (GMT)
Ok, so they make only 1.4 [strikethrough]billion[/strikethrough] million (I am a retard). I added in a couple extra zeros. >_<
Wow, can't believe it took that long for someone to catch that.
Man. My previous number was greater than the GNP of a medium country.
That and that most players subscribe with the long term option.
Thanks, Ace.
Oh, come on!? I can't use strikethroughs?
Ace - February 1, 2007 01:45 AM (GMT)
:Poke:
Nope...no strikethroughs.
But you were wrong again...it IS 1.44 billion dollars a year...before you were saying 240 billion. So yeah.
:P
