Title: Does anyone play Dungeons and Dragons?
Description: Even if it is "geeky," it's still fun. .

Strabo - June 19, 2006 07:51 PM (GMT)
Strabo's character, Gruand the level 5 rogue, was travelling through a swamp with his buddies (an insane cleric, a mildly retarded half-orc barbarian, and a pussy wizard) when the asswipe DM (dumgeon-master) ambushed the party with a young adult black dragon, who proceded to decimate the group, killing everyone but the wizard (who had ran like hell the second the dragon showed up).

Strabo, very annoyed now that he needed to spend the 2+ hours making another character and writing a backstory, quit playing DnD. Today he (kinda) regrets that, wishing that he could join another group that wasn't so. . . retarded.

Yah, the books are great. Especially the Draconomicon, and the Epic Level Handbook. It's fun to design those spells, even if you can't use them.

Fighter- Can I have a sword of Kender decapitation?
Me- No, because if there were any kender, they'd already be decapitated.

As for you, ilikepie, was it a DM related problem, or do you just hate the game itself?

I'm starting a new campaign. One of the characters will be a dracolyte, who is a doppelganger secretly working for the BBEG (Big Bad Evil Guy). Will he betray his friends? Or will he betray his boss? Tune in next time in. . . EXTREME DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS!!!!!!11!!11!1

Sorry I just drank a Mountain Dew. . . kinda hyper. . .

what's a dopple ganger...i don't have that book yet...

Strabo - July 5, 2006 04:32 AM (GMT)
I can't really define it, so I'll write an explanation.

The BBEG (Big Bad Evil Guy) needs more info on the players.

He kills one of the characters, and replaces him with one of his own henchmen who is enchanted to look exactly like him. This person is the doppelganger, and they betray the party later on.

Dungeons and Dragons the board game has a bad rep with most people. Because not many play it in their basement anymore. Mostly the stereotypical player is a socially rejected, acne plagued, geek with greasy skin who snorts when he laughs and honks when he talks, sitting in his basement with his two friends holding a bag of Cheetoes and his fear of girls to play Dungeons and Dragons trying to same the damsel in distress.

The video game, though the advertisements play jokes off of it "Why spend your nights alone? Spend it online with your druid friends kickin ass in Dungeons and Dragons online!"

As for the books? I'm glad you guys are taking the heat now. Star wars fans used to get it. "You read star wars books? haha nerd!" Well no more! Now people accept my star wars obsession

Strabo - September 23, 2006 05:02 AM (GMT)
Dude, Drizzit is awesome. (or, if you read Order of the Stick, Zzdriti)

The Dragonlance books are okay, but Amber & Ashes and the sequel Amber & Iron are awesome.

Also, I read Pierce Anthony (Land of Xanth), Tom Clancy, Mad Magazine, Tolkein, Harry Potter, etc.

I also read my D&D books. Not counting the ones I downloaded, I have 5 books-the 3 core books, the Epic Level Handbook, and the Draconomicon.

Now to trudge off to a Kirk vs. Picard debate. . . KIRK IS WAY BETTER!

um who's drizzit?

on WoW, it said not to name you character after famous fictional characters, and drizzit was one of the examples, but there's this guy named drizzit on there...

No one can deny that. Although Picard was a great ship captain whos skills outranked that of Kirks? Kirk was an origional... he WAS the origional. Which gives him seniority. Not to mention his way of speach and ability to pilot a starship through the galaxy that was concieved of cardboard, blinking LEDs, model paint, and televisions from the early 21st century. That makes him far superior to Picard.

Strabo - September 24, 2006 02:13 AM (GMT)
I agree. That and the fact that he met a lot of hot alien women B)

Data is cool, though. I prefer Spock, however, over the support characters in the newer Star Treks (such as Worf).

Picard was a better ship captain, I agree. (Wow that was like Yoda right there)

Keys - September 24, 2006 04:44 AM (GMT)
Agree do i was, picard a better captain, was he. ;)

Data? Cool? As if! he's more than cool! Who could resist a robot with the interest to learn more about being human and almost the desire to become human. Not to mention the fact that he has the interest to have interest!

Strabo - September 24, 2006 06:09 AM (GMT)
Lol. . . we started out about D&D, then went to D&D and Star Wars Books, then Kirk vs. Picard and finally Data

Have you seen the menagrie, with Captain Pike? Good episode, but strange.

Keys - September 25, 2006 03:45 AM (GMT)
lol you have to realize that isn't too uncommon here on the spore forums.

and yeah, i noticed that too.. the tags seem to be out of place.

Strabo - September 29, 2006 05:14 AM (GMT)
Looks like they're fixed now. Sigh. . . if was fun in the colonies while it lasted.

Keys - September 30, 2006 06:09 AM (GMT)
Not so sure they are. I'm Still einstein creature. I should be colonies or more. Considering intelligence comes before civilization.

Strabo - September 30, 2006 06:57 AM (GMT)
hmm. . . messed up again. Oh well. It's not that important, anyway.

What were we discussing earlier? I can't remember.

Keys - October 1, 2006 07:14 PM (GMT)
haha, i think it was star trek and the lot.. and the origional topic was of Dungeons and Dragons.

Strabo - October 2, 2006 11:14 PM (GMT)
So. . . D&D. . .

Ever played a Zombiegeddon campaign? Loads of fun! Just you, a couple of friends, maybe a few survivors, and thousands of zombies to kill!

Keys - October 3, 2006 04:20 AM (GMT)
lol afraid not.

However i have played the Half-Life 2 Zombie Modification. Which is pretty much the same concept plus or minus digital-reality worlds with moveable obsticles to barricade the doors with to keep out the zombies with the addition of Machine guns/shotguns/sniper rifles/grenades/knives/pistols to fend off the almost invincible zombies with!

Strabo - October 5, 2006 05:48 AM (GMT)
Nice. Me likey. What is the name of the mod? Is it just "Half Life 2 Zombie Mod"

Keys - October 5, 2006 10:38 PM (GMT)
Well, its called the Half Life 2 Zombie Modification. But in actual reality, its apart of Counter Strike. Start up and update your steam account/Counter strike setup and once in the game under map filters enter.. 'zm' yes. Just zm and you should get a few servers holding the zombie modification. Its a fairly quick download +/- the maps and server additions.

Then its good clean, human hunting fun!

The objective of the game is all participants start as human. You are given an infinite ammount of cash and allowed to buy your weapons in the same fashion as Counter Strike. Then you find a hiding place. In almost every place you'll find stuff to block the doors and windows with. To do this you fire your weapons (which are armed with a pretty sizeable ammount of ammunition compared to normal) into the object and using the game's physics craft yourself a bunker. Once a hidden timer expires one player is selected to be the zombie. Zombie players are on a one-hit-transform basis. When you're attacked by zombies (who hold the ability to fly and are faster than you) you are automatically turned into one and it is now your duty to hunt down the remaining humans around the map, or in other words... your former friends!

The round ends when all humans are zombified or the revealed round timer expires with humans left alive somewhere.

The zombies are extremely difficult to be killed however are killable. It takes several rounds and several life-rounds on the Zombie's part to die. Once a Zombie is killed the Player is respawned as a human back in the main starting area. However, due to the massive zombie population by this point usually you don't last your second round too long.

Enjoy!

Strabo - October 6, 2006 05:03 AM (GMT)
Sweeeeet. Sounds like my Zombiegeddon, but easier to play. (The characters are trapped on the roof of an inn, surrounded by 100~ zombies :))

And they're running out of food and water. And the weight of the zombies on the 3 floors beneath them is weakening the structure. :insert dramatic music sting:
