Title: Special Abilities
Ace - April 15, 2005 03:43 AM (GMT)
Finally...this forum might have SOME use...I was afraid I was going to have to delete it off the board!
Since I'm pretty sure that this game ISN'T going to have it in its programming, I would LOVE to see creatures will, shall we say, "magical powers". Things like Coffeefreak's Medusa actually turning enemies into stone or having physical powers like perhaps my three-headed dog would be like an omen to death or have poisonous fangs.
That would be bloody brilliant! (Is terrible with the whole "British slang" thing)
CoffeeFreak4Life - April 15, 2005 05:16 AM (GMT)
you used the slang quite well in my opinion. it might be cool to have but im thinking they would keep it within the limits of actual animals if they put it in. like posion as would be the case in spiders /snakes or suffication like the boa constricter burroing might be cool too.
Ace - April 15, 2005 10:25 PM (GMT)
True...though the problem is that if someone wants to great a REALLY weird type of creature, that means that they're stuck with the powers in "their" category. But then again...how can the computer determine what a snake IS? Because this thing is even MORE customizable than the Sims 2 (Will Wright says it moldable like clay), you really can't say that someting that slithers is a snake...because maybe it's a fox without legs!
Rein_Spark - April 15, 2005 10:41 PM (GMT)
Yes Ace, I thought you did well with 'bloody'. ^_^
I think special abilities would be fantastic. Maybe if you wanted your animal poisonous you could choose it from a list so even if it wasn't a snake it would still have poisonous saliva or whatever.

well i dont think they would restrict it to a type just have real world abilities that could be aplied to a creature

I must have misundertstood you then. But real-life powers aren't always as fun as the fake ones. Plus, you couldn't have a medusa creature if it were only real-life powers!
CoffeeFreak4Life - April 15, 2005 10:56 PM (GMT)
yea i know but you copld still have the snake hair kinda thing
Ace - April 16, 2005 02:14 AM (GMT)
True...and real-life powers would be cool. But other special powers would be even cooler! :P
CoffeeFreak4Life - April 16, 2005 03:10 AM (GMT)
absolutely they would and ifthey are its awesome.Who knows maybe they are?
Ace - April 16, 2005 04:05 AM (GMT)
Possibly. But I'm thinking if they do put special abilities in, they'll put in the Spore EP...(hopes that they'll make it all into one game instead of a game with several EPs like The Sims/Sims 2)
CoffeeFreak4Life - April 16, 2005 04:17 AM (GMT)
I doubt they will make it uncomplete like sims 2 or sims cause they dont know if they would be able to get away with it. where as with the sims it sold like piping hot coffee on an artic day so they knew they could.

Very true! I suppose they'll play it careful for the first game, but I bet anything that there'll be a Spore 2 ('cause I'm confident this thing'll sell well) and then they'll give us the horrid (yet at the same time, wonderful) EPs.
CoffeeFreak4Life - April 16, 2005 04:31 AM (GMT)
no if anything if it sells well enough and there are sevral things fans really really want they will release an EP for the 1st and maybe come out with a second.
Ace - April 16, 2005 04:33 AM (GMT)
Too true. I suppose if success is good, they'll try and add more. But then again...when you give a player total domination, what MORE do they need?
CoffeeFreak4Life - April 16, 2005 04:40 AM (GMT)
More parts for their animals? how much more can you add with such a simplistic design though
Ace - April 16, 2005 05:54 PM (GMT)
I really couldn't tell you. It seems this game will give total creativity.
I am posting another topic in this forum though regarding a creature's material objects. :P
And I notice that we're the only ones talking here, Coffee...wonder what's up with that!
froglaet - July 23, 2005 01:28 PM (GMT)
I dont know if I would like special powers, I suppose poison and stealth attributes would be cool, but I would like "super-dooper lightening strike attack" would take away the realistical properties and make it too much like Pokémon.
I'm really looking forward to all the creativity in the game, I suppose they're could be a special powers range, but I dont think I would use it myself.
Good idea though,

I agree with that. You can't go too far out. I plan to make this giant slug thing....but since it will be so defenseless, if I can I will make its slimy body poisonous. I don't, however, want my giant slug to be able to teleport.
froglaet - July 23, 2005 03:59 PM (GMT)
Ha!!! Teleporting slugs!! That made me chuckle! :D
tdlob - August 23, 2005 10:36 PM (GMT)
Heres a list of all the special abillates i want to see
Slithering on the ground like a snake instead of
just walking
1.poison like stuff Fangs with venom, mouths with fangs (and more venom)
,a sorpions Telson (posion sack at the back of tail)
,and/or the abillity to add poison effects or venom sacks to
mouths and weapons.
2.Exoskeltons like bugs.
3.The abillity to spit Poison/Venom
4.Blowfish type abillety: being able to increase your body size
to ward of predators (looks to right and sees rancor monster)
well most predators.
5. if any1 has played EVO youll know of what i speak.
but i would also like the abillate to have different body types
poisonious,exoskeltons(stated above),spikey (like blowfish)etc......
6.it would be nice to see some kind of chameleaon effect from a chamealeon
tail sorta like from impossiable creatures.
7.also the abillaty to make webs and stop other creatures in there
tracks.
froglaet - August 30, 2005 12:25 PM (GMT)
I like all your ideas, I think that as long as the abilities are natural (or near natrual since these are alien creatures) I think it would be a good thing to have in the game. Those who dont want to use abilities dont have to after all!

What do you mean by this?
froglaet - August 30, 2005 05:04 PM (GMT)
Well if a player decided that he or she didnt want their creature to have special abilities they dont have to, but if a player did want special abilities they can so it would be nice to have the option.
tdlob - August 30, 2005 10:53 PM (GMT)
yeah abilletys should ethir come with creature items or
you should have the option of adding abilltes to items
whcih brings another question? if you have the abillety
to add abilletys to items then should there be different
lvls/intensitys of that abillitey. Such as different types
of poisons like Weak, Moderate, Strong, Deadly, and the killer "Potent".
i think that would be kinda cool to have in game.
BucephalusStud - September 11, 2005 05:20 AM (GMT)
Spore reminds me so much of my biology class.
Most of the things that you listed there looked like survival tactics for animals. I could see examples of imitations, intimidation, chemical defenses, and of course camouflage. All brilliant concepts, and one I think that will most likely be featured in the game.
My main concern about abilities like this is that it's kept in the realm of reality for that creature. If you can explain how this thing uses an ability, which is biological, then I'll be more than happy. I'd like to see some creativity in a creatures defense, but not the whole "lightning shock" thing that would resemble pokemon like Frog said.
tdlob - September 11, 2005 01:36 PM (GMT)
yes i know you want to keep it in reality but im sorry i dont think thats going to happen beacuse these arnt real creatures so theres room to expand beyodn there so i ouldnt count on there being just natural abilltes.
BucephalusStud - September 13, 2005 05:11 AM (GMT)
You do have a point, in that this isn't really real. *Shines light on head as I undergo a revelation*
tdlob - September 13, 2005 02:46 PM (GMT)
................... thats odd lol.
i wonder if your create can be just a huge blob and just moves around and
absorb creatures and things to eat.

Hehe, the only critism I've seeb from article commenters is that they would have to comply with Will Wrights idea of creatures that will be able to survive.
I remember one comment that said "Will I be limited by Will Wrights idea of functional creatures, what if I wanted to make a small creature that floated on the upcurrents feeding on bacteria in the air" (or something similar to that)
I guess your blob has the same problem, have to wait for new info to see if we can truly create anything we want.
tdlob - September 14, 2005 05:04 PM (GMT)
maybe wright will at first make everything from the basics
such as stuff from reality but since this isnt real im sure
as time goes on more stuff and types of creatures
you can make will slowly be added.

LOL that would be so cool. Sure...it might get boring after a while but I bet I could pass a couple of hours by playing with this huge blob.
tdlob - September 29, 2005 02:14 AM (GMT)
no that could add plenty of hours of gameplay sure maybe not for me but say it finds its way into your comp then im sure you can speend at least 15 hours of gameplay just to figure out how to kill it lol.
SporeFox - April 15, 2006 01:40 PM (GMT)
AWESOME!!!
he said the would have abilities, but he never said speacial abilities...
but speacial abilities are definatly a good idea...
Strabo - April 24, 2006 02:49 AM (GMT)
About the whole electric shock thing. . . two words:
electric eels
They already exist, and they're an example of use of electricity without making it Pokemon-like.
That would be sweet. Make a creature that had a stabbing tail, and it shocks it's prey with electricity whenever it hits.
Also, the Mild/Moderate/Severe/Deadly scale of magnitude would be useful.
SporeFan09 - April 24, 2006 04:29 AM (GMT)
What about player-created special abilities?

0_0 i can't believe noboy's came up with that yet.... :o
Strabo - June 22, 2006 06:18 AM (GMT)
Special abilities. . . . . . what with all of the biodiversity that adapts to eachother (I.E., non-poisonous frogs that look like poisonous frogs). . .
maybe if the poison is added as a defensive system, where for a certain number of evolution points you can add a poison to a body part, and then spend points to make it stronger or change what it does. . . there's just too much that could be put in the game for it to all fit without making the game ridiculously large.
Will you be able to make a creature that is a chemotroph (gains energy from chemicals), or will we be stuck with only phototrophs (Gains energy through photosynthesis)?
SporeFox - July 15, 2006 11:01 PM (GMT)

*Slaps SporeFox* Make your posts coherent and readable. And please, for the sake of all sentient beings, DON'T ACT RETARDED! Ack! My brain is hurting just looking at that post. . . So worthless.
Enough of the SporeFox bashing. Onto special abilities.
I think that, if included, special abilities will be limited. You'd have your poisonous weapons and defenses, maybe a few more abilities. Sorry, but I'm feeling really serious today.
SporeDrooler - August 1, 2006 07:01 AM (GMT)
I think it would be nice if you could add the sting of a bee ,fangs of a snake, tail of a scorpion and the poisonous skin of a certain frog.Though tehy shouldn't be like those, they could me modified, look different.I hope you get the idea.
