Title: Running fast......

ilikepie - April 8, 2006 04:34 AM (GMT)
Um i was wondering do u choose how fast u run or something............

Mutator - April 8, 2006 02:28 PM (GMT)
The speed of you creature is based on the construction of the skeleton you create for it. he said so in the movie from a year ago... ;)

GCool - April 8, 2006 05:17 PM (GMT)
Yeap. Like dilemma, he had a leg onfiguration that suited moving quickly - two sets of legs like a dog but bent outwards like a croc, with another set exactly the same just longer and coming from a slightly higher point on the body, inbetween the other sets.

Tweety bird was slow, he had short legs set up in a sort of hexegon arangement. He was also top-heavy.

Ther actual speed you move at is based on the skeliton, as demonstrated above, but also how far you tell the creature to go, and possibly which button you use to tell it to go there.

See, the game runs as a sort of point/click game, you click where to go, but it appears you can also click/hold to keep the creature moving, like when he was dragging the blue ball around.

The further away you click, the faster the creature moves to get there.
The distance also appears to have some effect on how you move.

Like hang-dog, hes a very cool dog, and walks kinda cool too. When walking slowly, he moves his legs independantly of each other, it seems, one leg at a time. When running, he puts his long legs forwards and swings his body over and forwards.

SporeFox - April 17, 2006 08:22 PM (GMT)
if you wan't it to run really fast, you should give it four double jointed legs...i think ;)

dorkfire - April 19, 2006 07:52 PM (GMT)
yea i'm pretty sure the body and leg config pretty much control the speed of ur creature. But remeber, this is an EVOLUTION game, so u can experiment till u find the perfect config.

Actually, it's a very weird concept, a mix of both evolution AND intelegent design.
Just clearing that up before christians go all garry on us and get out their ban-hammers.

Could a millipede creature move really fast? Two or three legs would always be propelling it forward, so it looked like a crowd doing the wave (if you view the millipede from the side, that is).

SporeFan09 - April 24, 2006 03:43 AM (GMT)
I love the wave  . But I bet your millipede creature would be preatty fast, probably not too productive once in the RTS mode.

Strabo - April 25, 2006 10:23 PM (GMT)
I've noticed how I'm the only person in these forums who uses perfect grammar and almost-perfect spelling. And I barely use any smilies.

Anyways, you could also make your creature faster if there is an option to increase muscle size and density.

SporeFan09 - April 25, 2006 10:37 PM (GMT)
Well, if they do add characteristic changers to the in game builder, like muscles or lungs, then you'd be happy.

Look at the smiles:  :o ;) :P :D  B) <_< :) :(  :ph43r:

I try to too. It's not so easy for me, though, as i'm dyslexic :(
I only use smilies because they happen to write over the symbols I tend to use.

Don't flatter yourself.

Typically speaking, millipedes aren't the fastest creatures. Centipedes are faster, though not particularly speedy either.

Putting aside flight, the fastest-running creatures in our world tend to be the slimmer, aerodynamic beasts. Four to six long legs, long backward joints to provide the most forward thrust (in the hind legs, typically). With too many legs it just becomes inefficient - they need to be placed in odd positions just to fit.

Of course, muscle does contribute quite a bit. We know there are different kinds of muscles. That said, I'm not sure whether Spore is going to follow strictly Earth-like laws in its movement. We wont really know until we can see more. There's a big brick wall in the way right now, and hopefully E3 is a sizable wrecking ball.

Nice. I hope they release new info at E3, are they suppost to?

Strabo - May 22, 2006 02:04 AM (GMT)
Good analogy, silarn (about E3)

They [millipedes] are pretty fast for creatures of their size, and a big one would be scary fast.

The recent vids showed meters for how fast, strong, resilent, etc. that a creature is, and the speed went up with the foot upgrades he made on the ant-like creature.

Random comment of the day: Or an earwig. Why do they call them earwigs? Did people think they lived in ears? Whats the deal with that, anyways? Earwigs creep me out, mostly because of the name.

Well said. I was almost insulted at the assumption that nobody else actually writes properly.

Aside that, a millipede isn't very quick, its legs help provide efficient movement by moving each leg simply one after another, creating a waving pattern of movement. This allows the creature to conserve energy easier, being an insect. This can be vital. Each leg barely moves in comparison to more "complicated" movement systems, it also helps to reduce body heat.

^That's interesting. Never thought about that.

SporeDrooler - May 23, 2006 03:38 PM (GMT)
i think it's skeleton, legs and feet that decide how fast you ran.Maybe there will be a sprint button.

i know the answer the guy who named them looked at there wings and then thought about how much it look like a human ear with the patterns.I saw it on a Doco called ''THE MOST EXTREME''

jasonsporelover - November 24, 2006 11:03 PM (GMT)

really small things don't run too fast...or at least not to a bigger thing,; they can run fast...and they also don't like double posting...

Dragonspore - November 26, 2006 11:52 AM (GMT)
small things do run fast (unless they fly or swim...)
and depending on how strong their legs are, big things can too. B)

Good examples of small and fast animals are:

Most floor geckos
Rats/Mice
Cockroaches
Flies
Some predetory spiders

Etc.

So, there are alot more fast animals in the "small" category, but it's a little silly to list many.

SporeFox - December 1, 2006 09:44 PM (GMT)
well...i know, i wasn't thinking strait when i posted that...rabbits are fast, and my chorkie(chihuahua-yorkie mix...lol, like the name i came up with for it?) runs really fast...lol, 'tis funny..

Dragonspore - December 2, 2006 08:52 AM (GMT)
my point proven

jasonsporelover - December 13, 2006 04:33 AM (GMT)
is anyone gunna list some animal or say somthing there hasn't been a post for a while

Jonat - December 13, 2006 03:17 PM (GMT)
obviously not, otherwise they might've posted before you?

Keys - December 13, 2006 11:29 PM (GMT)
On occasion we whitness the death of posts when interest has been lost in the topic and it slowly sinks down to the bottom of the thread listing pages... But thats why man has invented necromancy

Jonat - December 14, 2006 02:11 AM (GMT)
