Title: Carnivorous Plants
PhiniusMaster - April 6, 2006 10:00 PM (GMT)
Hey all, was wondering if you will or want there to be carnivorous plants as creatures to play as or just in game. I think it's be sorta limited to play as one, but just a thought.

well seeing how much you can manuver and change your creture you can proply give it a good ol' round head with giantik mouth and make its limbs look like leafs and give it kind of tenticle like legs
I think it can be done

sounds fun...and it would literatly start out as a spore!
and i wonder: can you make a creature with fur? or are they all reptillian/giant bugs?

As far as we know, yes, you can have fur. You can also have hair, feathers, scales, skin, or whatever you want.
Aparently, you will be able to paint it on, although I don;t know if this is confermnd..

I'm fairly certain I've heard from various interviews that plants will be plants. In other words, in the strict sense 'plants' will not be carniverous, but as has been said it's entirely possible that you can create a plant-like creature and simply call it a plant.
Now, on the topic of skins, I have heard that there are a number of options, and taking into account the information that the program determines locations of body parts, I would suspect that there will be a kind of skin editor where you can mix certain texture types and/or colors to get it looking as close as you can to what you want.

yeh...have you ever seen a flytrap even move it's stem? it doesn't. i forgot about that...
dorkfire - April 23, 2006 05:14 PM (GMT)
well i think u could make ur creature look like a gaint plant, but i don't think u can actually be one. Also u might run into a piece of fuana that attemps to attack or eat u. well who nos?
Silarn - April 23, 2006 08:19 PM (GMT)
Fauna = animal life.
Flora = plant life.
SporeFan09 - April 24, 2006 04:42 AM (GMT)
Yeah, that would probably get too confusing, the game may be as it is.
Strabo - April 24, 2006 10:53 PM (GMT)
I'm just guessing that this is one of the things that they won't have time to put into Spore, like a complex climate or natural disasters.
Hopefully something like this could be included in a patch so that we can have cool plants that eat our hapless creatures if they get too close.
Silarn - April 26, 2006 12:25 AM (GMT)
An animal with no legs and a big mouth? ;)
Wait until your prey gets too close - and strike! Of course, you'd think other creatures would learn to avoid you in time, which is why most carniverous plants have some kind of luring mechanism. (And their prey is generally insects with no intelligence.)
SporeFan09 - April 26, 2006 10:41 PM (GMT)
Well, in an animal, a luring mechinism, would be great, but I'm still don't know why a plant would be any useful. For example, how would you build a city with plants or colonize another planet? (Maybe that would give a literal meaning to "Spore")
Strabo - May 10, 2006 11:25 PM (GMT)
Hmmm that makes sense. What if the plants walked on their roots, or something.
Or maybe there will be special construction sets that allow you to make anything you want.
Or maybe the plants will be supplied to Spore in the form of patches.
Who knows? Sid Meiers does, and so does the rest of the Spore dev. team.
We just have to wait until February. :(
SporeDrooler - May 14, 2006 01:46 PM (GMT)
You might do a carnivorius plant with the plant editor.
Derlock - May 20, 2006 07:41 AM (GMT)
I think a carnivorous Plant would help make a vary different world like Mr will has been talking about it would be cool to make them but I don’t know iv you will be able to.
sevirit - May 20, 2006 11:10 AM (GMT)
It would still be very cool none the less B)
Ace - May 21, 2006 01:55 AM (GMT)
Sounds a bit weird to me. :D
Jonat - May 21, 2006 05:25 PM (GMT)
There are bug-eating planets in this world.
Hell! There's one that eats Monkies! (True to fact)
I would not be suprised if Vegitation can take instinctive roles, so i would say off the top of my head this *should* be possible.
Ace - May 22, 2006 04:05 AM (GMT)
Monkey eater? I don't think you can even make something that is considered a monkey in the game. It may look like one, but it's just a "creature" to the game.
Derlock - May 22, 2006 08:04 AM (GMT)
something i noticed last night
if you go to the g4 website about e3 and watch their hands on with spore video and there is a part where you can see dirfrent parts that look plant like just thought i would share that with everyone

I ment in the real-world. Not the game ;)
jasonsporelover - November 24, 2006 11:46 PM (GMT)
well i recon it would be good to have carnivouris plants on places with little or no water, for reasons of realism B)
SporeFox - November 24, 2006 11:52 PM (GMT)
*sighs*
what about a planet that had giant Carnivorus plants everywhere...hardnessl evel+

Then, evolution would find a way of balancing it so the plants would not run out of food. ;)
