Here's an article I got from IGN.
Spore to Get Smaller?
Electronic Arts hints at handheld version of upcoming PC sim.
by Jeremy Dunham
February 28, 2006 - Thanks to various emails from IGN readers all over the web, we learned today that software mega-publisher Electronic Arts is looking for staff to beef up its Spore development team (as evidenced on several employment classifieds). The interesting thing about the position openings is that they're for a previously-unannounced handheld version of the game. Specifically, the classified looks like this:
"The Spore team is looking for an experienced designer that will be responsible for designing, creating and maintaining game systems and content for SPORE Handheld titles.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver AAA quality and unique play experiences on multiple Handheld platforms
Drive vision and design for both internal and external design teams for launch of Handheld titles for SPORE
Build and code prototypes of gameplay during pre-production"
Perhaps the handheld version is an attempt to keep Spore's size to scale?
Specific system plans were not disclosed -- it may be planned for multiple handhelds like PSP, DS and/or GBA, or it may be a platform-exclusive project. IGN contacted EA for comment, but its representatives had none to give.
We'll keep you posted on further developments.

hrrmmmm handheld? well assuming they do make a hand held what do you think they will put it on he PSP or DS?
Ace - March 7, 2006 03:28 AM (GMT)
I would argue both...but certainly graphics-wise, PSP would have the advantage. Graphics on the DS are often too..."cartoonish" per se (I'm not trying to diss Nintendo here...). Also, for custom content, the PSP has a memory stick, something the DS doesn't have.
But I that if they're going handheld, they'll do both.
I'll be interested to see how this plays out. I'm sure it'll be much more restricted than the PC version.

Advantages of PSP:
Better rep in america and england
Better grafics
Memory cards
Faster internet
Easier to convert
Advantages of DS:
More chances for unique gameplay
Closer match to the PC mouse controll using stylus
More suited for the style of the game
More rep in japan
Free internet

Well...PSP offers free internet as well...just as long as you don't use a pay-for-use WiFi connection...but then again...it's the same for the DS as well.
I'll change the name of the title so that people will see it better rather than just "Spore".

I wouldnt take a second thought about it hittin PSP.
The game format matches it perfectly actually. from joystick motion on the 2D organsim section to the 3D wandering of an animal. Space and whatnot may be a problem but i cant see why it wouldnt be mastered on the PSP.
What i don't get though is how it will update on a regular basis if the PSP isnt like a computer and has internet access ALL the time.
Then again, if it works with the 56kers it'll work with the PSP

The game is more point and click than joystick controlled... Stylus would be a better match to the PC game, and easier to use in the editor...
Ace - March 8, 2006 03:59 AM (GMT)
Well, we can't CONFIRM it's more point and click...Maxis hasn't mentioned any of that...but regardless, they always change things when converting to handheld, so I'm sure they can make it work. The one thing about PSP with advantage is that there is certainly more room for expansion - memory sticks, larger-memory in disk (UMD has 1.8GB whereas a DS card can hold roughly 1GB), etc.
I'll be interested to see if they release it though.

atleast we know the game is still in development for sure!

My guess would be the PSP. It's got the horsepower to run Spore.
Ace - March 11, 2006 03:32 AM (GMT)
Certainly both could tackle this game...
For the buttons...I can see them all perfectly...something that I couldn't do not too long ago...I don't know who is going on...but if you please post something with a pick in the appropriate spot for help, I can get this thing fixed...(and fortunately, we DON'T have to pay for hosting...InvisionFree is free!)
:D

i read somewhere that they ARE gonna put it on all handhelds, and i think they said celphones, too... :D
DAMN! another old forum...srry 'bout that...
SporeFan09 - April 25, 2006 10:43 PM (GMT)
Who would even play it on handhelds and cellphones (no offense) but they would probably have to make it a turn-based game with set characters to play. Ages of Empires 2 is an example, it is now a turn-based game for handhelds and cellphones.

I think stratagy games should stick to the computer right now, and little arcade games for cellphones and handhelds.
