Title: SimCity 5
Ace - April 12, 2005 09:38 PM (GMT)
Has anyone heard anything about this game? Rumors or facts? All I've heard is that Luke Barthelet got in trouble for reveiling that it was in the works right now...(Maxis tried to cover up and say he lied).
Anyone have an speculation on dates? Rumors? Or something you want to see in the game?
CoffeeFreak4Life - April 12, 2005 09:44 PM (GMT)
not a clue it sounds like an intentional slip though
Ace - April 12, 2005 09:48 PM (GMT)
Perhaps...oh yes, and I heard from one of the Sims 2 staff (I think) that SimCity 5 is supposed to be "simpler" or something. Quote, "Think of the original SimCity." Hopefully they don't mean the graphics or such will change drastically (unless for the better) or features are taken away!
CoffeeFreak4Life - April 12, 2005 09:57 PM (GMT)
They might be bringing back its old layout which i found quite easy to use.. the other thing is the plop down lots for RCI instead of the drag out stuff. Somthing i would kinda like back though is the terrain builder from Simcity2000 .
Ace - April 12, 2005 10:09 PM (GMT)
Hmm...never played SimCity 1 or 2. Did play 3 for a while but got 4 soon after...I'd have to say that SimCity 4 seems to be the easier of the two for managing budget (I always went under with SimCity 3 for some reason). But perhaps what you're saying is food for thought.
CoffeeFreak4Life - April 12, 2005 10:18 PM (GMT)
i wouldent expect you to have played the origonal Sim City that was an 80s game and awesome for its time. I beleive you can play Simcity classic on the simciy site tho cant you?
Dirty Dawg - April 12, 2005 10:25 PM (GMT)
i have to say i liked sim city 2 its probally my favourite of them all, it was very easy to get the hang of, and budgets were easy to keep track of.
sim city 1 was great for its time like you said coffee, it was 2d brilliance you could just put a block of R,C,I at a time, it was just wicked.
i cant say i like sim city 4 very much but maybe i just havent given it a chance, i've only played it once or twice since it came out. i liked sim city 3 but it was hard to look after your budget <_<

Yeah, you can play it there...and they have a clone of SimCity for Palm-Pilots that I once tried to play...not very fun though...scrolling was terrible and nobody moved into my city... <_<
CoffeeFreak4Life - April 12, 2005 10:32 PM (GMT)
yep thats why i think that the plop down or lay out stuff could be what they are talkin bout . both were simplistic and easy to Keep track of.Budgeting is hard in SC4 for me. I liked some of the SC Clasic themes they had too like the Medevil or Wild West themes i do wish they would bring themes back like that.
Ace - April 12, 2005 10:36 PM (GMT)
I think that's what they're doing. Perhaps a more modern SimCity 2000?
CoffeeFreak4Life - April 12, 2005 10:40 PM (GMT)
Ace - April 12, 2005 10:46 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't mind that as long as the graphics are great. I've heard some great things about Sim City 2000.
Though I wish some things were added from the current game and more. I like the levels in SimCity 4: Rush Hour. Also, I'd like them to add seasons and some landform features like waterfalls and such.

You think sim city 4 is easier to budget than 3000?
Hmm. 4 is much harder for me than 3000 was.
metranisome - August 15, 2005 06:06 AM (GMT)
Sim City 4, personally to me makes much more managing sense the Sim City 3000; it has to be balanced unlike sim city 3000 where you could cover something up with another deed! Also about a Sim City 5, not in the distant future, as claimed by Will Wright himself he seems to be busy with spore!
sevirit - May 20, 2006 06:22 AM (GMT)
Man this forum has already died probably cause theres no info on SC5 but MR. Will Wright will probably release info on it later
Ace - May 21, 2006 02:28 AM (GMT)
Much later, it seems. <_<
Sar-Sar - May 24, 2006 04:06 AM (GMT)
I liked all the SimCity games from the first to SimCity 4. But I liked 3000 the best.
But I read that they like to make their games from all new ideas. So I'll agree that it will be some time before we even hear anything, from Maxis officially, about a new one.
sevirit - May 24, 2006 06:35 AM (GMT)
Yea but everyone knows that we are going to get another one. Since this is what got him going he wouldn't let a great creation like sim city die so soon.
Ace - May 24, 2006 10:41 PM (GMT)
Well they'll definetely have new one...they couldn't EVER get rid of SimCity.

Yep, I believe that also.
I read that Will does a lot without EA knowing about it. So I would say that he already has a group somewhere working on it now.

SimCity must be a pretty big money-maker for them, so there really isn't reason to drop it unless it flops spectacularly, or offends someone (I don't know how that's possible, but people find reasons to sue).
It (SimCity4) has an excellent online community which is (usually) helpful and nice. I hope that they make it easier than it already is to add content.
A download manager would be nice.
Unfortunately, anything of that nature will probably be made by modders. Not that I have anything against them. They are (usually) nice people who want to improve the game or make it more fun.
Sar-Sar - May 31, 2006 05:35 AM (GMT)
Well SimCity was Maxis' first game. So yes, I would say that it has made them a great deal of money.
And your also right Strabo, seems like people can sue for just about anything now days. But I doubt that anything about SimCity could really offend anyone to cause a court hearing. Just maybe cause a little fuss is all.
Ace - June 1, 2006 11:20 PM (GMT)
There's always a way to sue a company - it's what stupid, useless people do all the time.
Anyways...yeah, SC was their first game, so they can't drop it. Big money.
Interesting with the whole under-cover stuff, Sar-Sar, I'd never thought of, or heard of, something along those lines.
Strabo - July 9, 2006 04:48 AM (GMT)
Thinking about SimCity5 makes me wish that I could pur. It must feel good to pur. Kinda like scratching this really bad itch in the middle of your back. It must feel good, or else they wouldn't do it. Do you know that lions pur, it's just really low and growling-like.
*From Family Guy*
Peter: Did you know that if you had a cold and said "mallard" that it would sound like "ballard"?
Brian: Do you even listen to yourself talk?
Peter: I drift in and out.

They may have started work on SimCity 5 however they probally are not that far into the actual development because maxis is a small development studio and are currently working on the sims 3 and a brand new development team on spore

How do you know?
Keys - October 3, 2006 04:30 AM (GMT)
Not so sure they're working on much other than Spore at the moment. They may have a half-done development team on Sims 3 or Simcity 5.. but i think because Will is focused on Spore.. we won't expect a Sims 3 or Simcity 5 soon.
Strabo - November 5, 2006 10:32 PM (GMT)
I hope that my computers can run Sims 3 and SimCity 5 when they come out. Of course, by then, I'll probably be out of high school and (hopefully) in college.
Keys - November 13, 2006 05:35 AM (GMT)
Well you do know you can run the Sims 2 on the same computer that ran your Sims games? You may not have the same graphics as you would on a later PC but you still can.
besides! Feel lucky! The gaming i'm getting into is requiring:
8+Gb of available Hard Drive space
1gb RAM
3.0Ghz+ Processor
256=512mb capable graphics card(s)
Yeowch!

The 3Ghz req. is probably for a netty cpu, so it can probably run on an X2 4200 + or an E6300...
--------------------------------------------------
Of course, it probably needs 2gbs of Corsair Dominator RAM to run well, four raptors in a RAID 0 array, two SLI'd 8800GTX's, and a X6800 to run well.
Plus one of those 30" $2000 monitors.
And then, you can run the game on the low settings. But you still only get 25 fps.
---------------------------------------------------
Hehe.
Seriously though, what's the game?
Keys - November 13, 2006 11:22 PM (GMT)
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic
Splinter Cell: Double Agent are two to mention. Though only DMoMM requires the 2gb Ram.... although that doesn't include the...
VISTA purchase coming up which does actually require 2gb of RAM for the premium edition.
