well im not sure if anybody remebers this game but along time ago there
was this game made by Will Wright called sim ants its was a cool concept
but it had alot of glitches and the game didnt last long.
so heres what i think i think as a side project wright should go
back and remake this game i think it would look realy good
in 3D (especially the spider)

That was one of my favorites as a kid. I beat a gazillion times but it was cool :)

Yeah, we've had just about every Maxis game except for everything past SimCity 3 and the Sims 2. We like maxis ;)

But yeah, when I was a kid, I used to love to take control of the spider in SimAnt and wreak havoc upon the opposing...ant :P

hrrrmmm there was a spider mode? hrrmmm mustive not rembered it i was playing the normal game too much. and yes it is funny how conversations can wander off.

Dontcha remember?! You could take control of any ant on your side including the spider. I don't exactly remember how that was accomplished but if you so desired, you could play as a worker ant, a soldier, a new queen, the queen, and lastly, the spider.

My brother once neglected the red ants and they dominated an entire corner of the yard. I remember as a kid, I spent days reclaiming it. Took me forever :P

you could take control of the spider the same way you took control of everything else. I don't think it was a cheat tho

I never got the change to play this game....I actually never even heard of it (I was a deprived child). What was it about?

basically you start as a queen ant in a backyard and you dig your first nest then you start spawin ants and your fighting for supremecy of the backyard (and house) against the ppl of the house and the red (or black i think) ants. and you would choose want your queen would lay and what your worker ants would do.

The purpose of the game was to drive the person out of his house. To do this, you had a single queen ant who would lay a few eggs which would hatch into more ants to acclimate to a greater infestation. You could control what kind of ants were produced, what activities they did, and when you could go and create a new nest within the yard and eventually the house.

didnt you have to infestat other squares of the yard manualy?

oaky sim ants came out in 1991 and was one of wil wrights first games
the graphics were 2D but were great in that time and age
actually i think a well done 2d game is better than a badly done 3D
game... anyway today the graphics arent that great but the gameplay is fun
and can be exciteing...

I don't think so. Whenever I played, I did it manually but when the colony got bigger, parts of the yard would become infested automatically for me. It's been years since I've played it so I can't really remember.

i remeber once i made an entire nest outta queens there WERE SO MANY i think like 50 or so....

Imagine the graphics of a game from 1991 and you got it. I used to play Sim Ant, and it was indeed fun. This makes me slightly want to find the disk and play it again. :D

Ooooooh, I played this game AGES ago, somewhere.... I will have to see if I can find a copy...

the only bad thing is it dosent work on the newer computers... :(

So yeah. It was fastest to expand manually, but colonies did expand on their own if left. Actually, it was much easier to surround a red colony when taking over, because ants would natually migrate over. I found it was oftentimes easier to surround something and then send in a queen, letting the AI do its thing. For some reason it was harder when you were in control...

The only thing that really bugged me in SimAnt was combat. There was no real control - you attack and hope that you win, really. I would gather my hordes and let them do all the work. XD As fun as it was being the spider and trying to make it attack the reds, it was more fun taking it down.

The part that always made me laugh was the human guy who walked around. I'd always die all-of-the-sudden and go, d'oh! The lawnmower!

Speaking of the spider, I swear there was some crazy secret thing that could happen sometimes. It was so wierd, but one time I swear the spider started running around with lasers shooting out of its eyes destroying everything. I was like :blink:.
