Title: Wouldn't it be cool . . .

. . . if you could fully customize your solar system. By now, some of you have got to be thinking "How?" Well, what if you could change the distance of a planet from the sun, the size of the planet, the tilt of a planet, and the number of planets found in your solar system. Furthermore, you ought to be able to designate an indiginous element to the planet to further customize it.

Just think. What if you had a planet with a fully horizontal tilt (which I'm still trying to determine if it's even possible in real life). It would constantly be daytime on one pole of the planet during the summer, and during autumn or spring, the days would be day and night and then day on the complete opposite pole in the winter. Likewise the pole opposite that would be constantly night.

Imagine what type of creatures you could get from a planet like that. Of course, you don't have to have a fully horizontal tilt like in my example but it would be cool if you could customize everything about your solar system.

Thought? :)

It would be cool to have some sort of scenario editor like a civilization game. However I think the normal game will have a "seeded" universe. And by that I mean random... or random based on some difficulty setting.

As far as the whole orbital scenario, this does occur. In fact I think there is a moon in our solar system which is like that. If I remember correctly our own moon does something similar but it's not the scenario you described and the earth is definately not a star. I'm too lazy to look it up but check one of the moons around jupiter or saturn :P

Whether or not it's possible in the game or whether or not that would have an impact on your creature is impossible to tell at this point. But yes I agree it would be cool. :)

My brother informed me that yes, the planet Uranus is on its side. There'd be an interesting planet to live on :P

Edit: Sorry Java, it did sound a bit bad

That diden't sound right when I first read it and to be honest still sounds a bit odd. I knew which planet it was though .

Interesting ideas...this would be cool to be in the game.

It would add a huge new level to the game!

If a planet was horizontal, the seasonal changes would be enormous! Our seasonal variations are very small, because Earth is at relativly small angle to the Sun.

Exactly!!!

i dont think wright would alow this in game so i wouldnt count on it.
itll all just be randomly generated.

but it would be kinda cool if you could use special UFO devices to do things like this.

BTW ever since i saw the terraforming video i thought it would be cool to use stuff like the volcano to destroy a city. This sounds like another thing that ought to be a good weapon

um...this is kinda an old topic..and people don't really like resurection around here...but welcome, and nice avvie :D

Not entirely sure, but i suspect you can. Especially when you get to UFO mode.

I think the distance, tilt and such can be changed when you create your own planet (from the main menu). I know you can select content and such, but i'm not sure if you can choose what evolves where.

Is it possible to have a fully horizontal tilt? Of course! Look at Uranus, it's at a 98 degree tilt and spins backwards!

I imagine the creatures would be neatly evolved to migrate to their preffered climate or day/night region. Either that, or stay on the line between day and night.

And i doubt the UFO would be powerful enough to change a planets orbit or tilt it..

yeah, a uranus-style planet would be cool

quetion: would it have east and west be north and south or vise-versa?

Hey! That's only when I have really bad gas!

Errrr. From our perspective. But the poles would be at the tilt, so if one of the poles faces towards the sun, then it'll not be like our pole (artic/antartic).

I also read somewhere that Uranus has year-long seasons due to it's slow rotation.

is anyone gunna say anymore or is this topic destined to die out
