Title: Blowing things up.
10-Neon - June 3, 2005 11:54 PM (GMT)
Does it bother anyone else that that seems to be everyone's focus for this game? Being very experienced in blowing things up in games, I have to say that it does get boring after a while.
I do hope the average consumer does not see it as a "blow up and kill" game when it is released. Just like in all of Will Wright's other games, I think destruction is only fun if you don't have the focus to spend the time to create something instead.
Twiggs - June 4, 2005 12:12 AM (GMT)
I'll Have BF2 and a host of other games in the future to blow things up in. Spore on the other hand, will be my canvas.
CoffeeFreak4Life - June 4, 2005 04:11 AM (GMT)
Yea blowing stuff up isent exactly my thing. im more of a creator than a killer.
BucephalusStud - June 9, 2005 06:28 AM (GMT)
You've gotta admit though, popping a critter onto an uninhabitable planet and watching it explode is kinda funny. Probably not the most novel of ideas but certainly at least a little humorous ;)

Sure, for the first two or three times it will be funny but after that it's just sad.
I am not looking at this as a blow em'up game at all. I would much sooner wreak havoc onto their planet then easily blow it up. :P

I like to have long tactical battles instead of just saying " Well, I cant really fight that much, let me just make planet or city go boom " * BOOM! *

I hate long technical battles. I am no good at them -_-
Bub - July 6, 2005 10:02 PM (GMT)
I don't plan on blowing things up...I intend on making a species that's really, really good at blowing things up. I'll just tell them to blow things up.
CoffeeFreak4Life - July 7, 2005 02:06 AM (GMT)
i prefer the diplomatic route more than anything else
TheComrade - July 13, 2005 10:12 AM (GMT)
I agree with CoffeeFreak4Life! Diplomacy and economic domination can do far more than war. War destroys both sides! Just look at WW1, the only reason it ended was because both sides had NOTHING left, the fresh rescources of the Americans just tipped the scale.
CoffeeFreak4Life - July 14, 2005 02:31 AM (GMT)
well the tank too but thats a diffrent debate for a diffrent forum.
d0dgy - July 27, 2005 03:37 AM (GMT)
Theres not THAT much of "blowing up" in Spore... I mean the general idea of the game is to make a race and evolve it in time... Spore isnt mainly focusing on a war game.
Will Wright wants this game to be a game where you can make a story out of it, but that DOES include having wars and blowing shit up.

Yeah I agree, although I don't think blowing stuff up is going to be part of everyones story.
d0dgy - July 27, 2005 06:34 PM (GMT)
can be... like if you want your race to be a race that focuses on war and killing then when you get to the city stage youd buy tanks and shit and just go all out... :D
guru42 - July 27, 2005 07:16 PM (GMT)
I wouldnt make my things have large militarys, or be militarily inclined. Probably puting up a few defenses, and keeping them safe while kicking ass economically. :)
setosora - July 28, 2005 04:57 PM (GMT)
it doesnt look like "blowing up" will be a big part of the game until you buy the UFO. and even then its focused more on collonizing. you could tho, take your creature and attack other animals... its not exactally blowing them up, but there was lots of blood when Will did it in his demo.
metranisome - August 19, 2005 12:37 AM (GMT)
The Blowing Thing Up isn’t the direct action I would like to take. If possible I would want to take over a planet and INSLAVE there residents to do my dirty work, as in a war... So that would leave my creatures safe, and I could make others creatures fight for my control and power! That would work perfectly for me!
tdlob - August 23, 2005 10:56 PM (GMT)
I to perfer the diplomatic rought however to have peace is to be ready for war
so i generaly have a strong millitary (yes i do love rts games) but it wont matter much when i start blowing planets up with the UFO but i think that it would cool if you could make a new planet from the remnants of another or even blow up a sun just to get rid of it and dont have to deal with it on the solar system map. on maybe even drain the sun for power(meaning money). but what i think what would be the coolest if you could kill a sun and watch all the planets under its haven ethir crash into another planet,go into orbit around another sun, or kill all the life on the planet by freezing it to death BWHAHHAHAHAAAA

mattam - April 18, 2006 07:35 PM (GMT)
u guys have to remember that he said it takes a long time to get the "blow up planet"gun or watever
dorkfire - April 18, 2006 10:02 PM (GMT)
C'mon u guys give peace a chance, this game was never meant to be a blow everything up game, and u no it. :o
BoBopotato - April 19, 2006 05:18 AM (GMT)
Remember this game is designed so you decide, so if you want peace you may have it or if you want war you can make it but when it comes to peace you better be ready to defend yourself because there will always be someone willing to shoot at you and bullets make poor bedfellows. So a little bit of destruction seems to be inevitable or close to it until your powerful enough or suave enough to stop it. Even though destruction is not the sole purpose of this game, this game is essentially about evolution and the ability to manipulate it and destruction has always managed to find its way into the process but if you don’t want it, the way it looks you will probably be able to get rid of it.
Sadly I think the average consumer that wants a video game looks for a quick fix which is usually blowing shit up instead of something that takes a little more time and thought with more lasting results. What this means is for the producer the consumer is always right and the average are the majority so they go where the money is. Unless a game has something else that can attract the average consumer, old tricks are the best tricks.
So they might have to show off the blowing up of the shit to get moneys attention.
ilikepie - April 19, 2006 05:25 AM (GMT)
im the kinda of destruction guy but on this game i wont for some reason
jasonsporelover - November 26, 2006 10:49 AM (GMT)
i
would only want
to colonise
instead
of blow
up
unless it is too hard
Dragonspore - November 26, 2006 11:48 AM (GMT)
I would probably abduct a few creatures (1 or 2 of each kind) and explore the planet etc... :)
i would also only blow up a planet if i have to (but first the i do the stuff above).
besides, if u blow up a planet, then there is one less planet to explore and take over etc. :D
Jonat - November 28, 2006 01:10 AM (GMT)
There's many more things you can do in the game than "blow up planets".
Just listing a few:
Create a space empire, similar to the federation and enlist other advanced aliens into it.
Colonise distant solar systems.
Terraform random planets in hopes you can use it as a "petrey dish".
Create a universal zoo.
Create billions of different items, including vechicles, UFOs, Planets, Plants, Buildings and Species of animals.
Improve other, less evolved species planets.
Etc.
It's built, so you can do whatever the hell you want.
That planet in the way of your beautiful sun? Blow it up!
Ever wandered what happened to an inhabited moon if you blow up the planet it circles? Try it!
Ever wondered how a planet would continue to evolve if it's climate was changed dramatically? Do it!
Ever wanted to make your own sci fi story where the main species planet is wiped out, leaving only the ufo and a group of settlers on a distant asteriod? Whatever!
Dragonspore - November 28, 2006 11:25 AM (GMT)
um... ya that's what i was trying to say. :)

i actualy want to make my creations based on the elves, they love peace and nature :D
Dragonspore - December 2, 2006 08:39 AM (GMT)
i wander if u can get ears...
Jonat - December 4, 2006 09:04 PM (GMT)
duh. You can make and shape them! XD
Dragonspore - December 5, 2006 05:16 AM (GMT)
oh yea now i remember
jasonsporelover - December 12, 2006 09:19 AM (GMT)
well what i will do is make creatures with detail, spend time upgrading
before they mate,i will play with each stage carefuly, then upgrade again and give them good buildings,so on ect.
when i get to the space age i will colonise as many planets as i can,
i hate spiders and scorpians so i will give them there on planet so i can battle them but never fully destroy them.
after all i am not the kind who will use the tractor beam to flick things more than a couple of times
Dragonspore - December 12, 2006 10:21 AM (GMT)
well as long as u don't go have war with my dragonian rock/lava beasts... ^_^
Jonat - December 12, 2006 03:42 PM (GMT)
whereas, my giant spiders love war.. :)
Dragonspore - December 12, 2006 08:06 PM (GMT)
well then we can have war
Jonat - December 13, 2006 01:12 AM (GMT)
yay! *wins* yay!... again!
jasonsporelover - December 13, 2006 04:48 AM (GMT)
my mantises will crush u with superior strength and intelect.
my aliens will overwhelm your species.
my predators will hunt u to extinction.
my tyranids will swarm u and consume the biomass of you planet like a plauge.
muhamuhamuhamuhamuhamuhamuha!
