Title: Spore's DRM
Strabo - May 12, 2008 04:32 AM (GMT)
As some of you may know, there was quite a fervor over Spore and Bioshock's invasive DRM. The DRM required the disk, authenticated online once you installed it and also every 10 days thereafter. Also, a constant internet connection would be required to play
at all.bit-tech articleThankfully, EA responded after a couple days of concentrated whining that threatened to drown out nearby rock concerts.
EA's ResponseNow it only needs to call home when you install, when you patch, and when you play online. You can also play offline (awesome for those people with laptops, I know!) and without the disc (hey, saves time looking for a cracked .EXE).
So, what do you guys think?

You really wanna know what i thought when they declared the 10 day thing *Epic Facepalm*

Been waiting awhile to use that one

Lol masko...
Good to hear EA went back on it. I can understand why video game companies are pulling the strings they are to keeo piracy from taking cash out of their wallets... but sometimes it goes too far.. a'la the 10-day rule. I'm glad EA decided to lessen the burden on that... though I still think it's stupid it has to have internet connection on install. What if you... god forbid... get the game but don't have the internet? or wont for a period of time... I'd be POed if I got spore and couldn't play it for a few minutes because the internet is required for install.... Ah well- The world's not perfect.. the demo is coming soon and after that it'll be installing!
... Though i still don't have a computer....

Heh, I don't have a computer (that'll run Spore) either. My desktop's motherboard bit the dust so I'm stuck on an old laptop for a while.

| We'll re-authenticate when a player uses online features, downloads new content or a patch for their game. |

Lol, we should start a "My mobo fried, now i'm stuck with a crappy laptop" clan.
travi - June 3, 2008 02:04 PM (GMT)
My computer died, but I got an upgrade rather than a downgrade. Can I still join? :D
Strabo - June 4, 2008 06:45 AM (GMT)
I was planning on upgrading my desktop anyway, and the mobo's death just seals the deal.
I'd join that clan. Just as long as I don't lose a hard drive before I can setup some RAID array fanciness.

Lol, I was all set to build the new computer... was waiting on the next paycheck.
Suddenly the bank screws me over for 150.00, my tires go out costing me 320.00, insurance decides to increase their rate for nothing, new health insurance 67.00, and then gas going up... I'm down more than half my paycheck already!!! OI!!! So.. i get to wait a couple more months for a PC. Looks like I'll miss out on the Demo and Spore's release maybe. This. Sucks.
Lol, and sure Travi.

That's true it does. As well- Got laid off by my 'former' employer, so.. now it's a grind trying to find a job in the same department. The economy isn't all that it used to be unfortunately. =/
