Title: A thought.
Axeraider67 - August 10, 2007 02:48 PM (GMT)
Hey guys.
As you have seen activity on these boards has slowed, and as soon as you read those last few words i bet you were like "Ok. Another announcement about us not posting." well it's not. Not mainly anyway. It's not like you guys don't post i see new posts every day.
Not only have members been growing shorter since i first came here, but less and less do i see the Admins of this board post- let alone even get online. Maybe this is normal? I've no idea. And by no means am i trying to say our Admins are bad- they're great!
But anyway, my question is:
Would you like to see a new Runescape Media? One with its own website, invision power board, etc?
This doesn't mean it's going to happen. I just want to know.
Thanks.
~ Axe.
PS. I'll be gone for 10 days but still will be able to post here for most of that time.

NO... thats an Absolute NO!! RSM is fine.. and we have enough members as it is... but starting over would kill our members... i feel we need to do something about the slowing though.. maybe do something huge i don't know what though... its got to be good...
Semi™ - August 10, 2007 10:06 PM (GMT)
i like the way it is right now, just more people plz
Tyler - August 11, 2007 03:07 AM (GMT)
I agree that is has slowed down, yes, I remember back when you logged in you would see atleast 7 people on at all times, now I see MAYBE 1 or 2, we do need to do something, but idk what O.o
But I don't agree with a new board
Axeraider67 - August 11, 2007 05:05 AM (GMT)
Well, any ideas then? Guys guys, we can't keep saying 'do something huge' and not do anything.
I just did something huge if you didnt notice, more than 100 people showed up for it. Did we get new members? Maybe one or two.
I can't blame anyone for how this forum is turning out, but we can certainly work together to make it better. Not necessarily a new website maybe, but at least improved content and activity.
I need people who are ready to commit to this, i need people who will not blame their absense on school or tests or homework. Most people here would simply cast this aside as their last priority when they had the choice between something in real life and here. I understand that, but if you guys truely wish to stick to your word, i will need devotion.
Do you understand?
0nly--1 - August 11, 2007 06:24 AM (GMT)
Let me apologize too for not getting on enough. I have been spending most of my computer time with my Wolfenstein Clan, and also with Quake Wars.
Tennvols21™ - August 11, 2007 02:59 PM (GMT)
Axe... that was a very... well i dont know good speech... You are right about updated content... maybe a new skin... or new banner... or more interactive things... I am committed to help... but school started and im going for valadictorian... so yeah... I can't help much... but i can do as much as i can... and if you need me sometimes i can get on... But yeah i can help whenever i have the time
AdaM - August 11, 2007 10:58 PM (GMT)
It would be nice to have a site but personally I don't think it would get more active members.
There isn't much we can do, we've tried most things that would work.

PARADOX! :P
Anyway, I pretty much hate school and homework; so I'm willing to do anything to help out with making the site better.
Maybe some kinda events which feature the artists, like competitions in which the winner gets a reward, and the other participants get a consiolation prize.
Also, the signature of the week should be like featured on the front home page, and is there a reward for it too?
Tyler - August 12, 2007 01:14 PM (GMT)
A new banner would be cool, and a new skin, make us look like people come here if we update and stuff, because we've had this skin for a long time

Here's a thought;
Instead of having all the forums we do have, why not downsize to a few very general categories. People coming on this site would not be so discouraged at the prospect of having to look through as many sections. Also, the posts would add up more if instead of being spread out, they are all grouped up. It would create the atmosphere of an active board, and possibly encourage more people to post as well.
lance13_92 - August 14, 2007 03:59 AM (GMT)
Sounds good to me, but what do I know? I'm no mod. (yet?) It would seem that the people who come to this site would KNOW how a fourm works, and thus the change wouldn't bring in ALOT of people. But at the same time, there are some forums that I myself am not particularly interested in, and I'm sure other people feel the same about other forums.
What do you think Axe?

Why did you make that?
Gauntlet - August 16, 2007 02:01 PM (GMT)
i was insanely bored, and i wanted to learn a bit of css and web design ;) best way to learn it is to try it.
Ixl--Trx-Ixl - August 16, 2007 06:23 PM (GMT)
Downsize on the forums that no one really posts on. When i go to a forum and i look at it I see that it must be inactive if they are not posting on all their forums.
Also we could promote more coding, webdesign, gfx, and other computer artists to this site.

I think that's an excellent idea. What would help us more than anything is if we got rid of many of the forums that are not used alot, so it is easy to find a forum that people are active on.
PJB21 - August 16, 2007 09:00 PM (GMT)
what forums did people have in mind for deleation?
lance13_92 - August 16, 2007 11:28 PM (GMT)
lol, pretty much the whole "other media" section.
PJB21 - August 17, 2007 08:05 AM (GMT)
have to say i agree, it seams fairly dead down there, maybe if you made a forum having all fo those things, so you dont lose the chat, but it makes it look more popular
so, for example, add an 'other media' section in the RS media section which incorporates all of those topics (film, music etc)

Glad to see my post didn't go unnoticed :) I was beginning to think the idea was rejected. Anyways, let me offer my idea on downsizing forums:

i think we should keep the main RS media section as it is currently
but that may just be me....
videl - August 17, 2007 12:52 PM (GMT)
It would take a lot of work totally redoing everything and getting everyone there. Why would a new forum make more members come? If no one is active here, chances are people won't suddenly be interested because of a new site.
Making a new site would probably do more harm than good. Really there are only 50 or so members who post often. Most just register and never post or do anything. More members isn't the thing you want. It's more ACTIVE members. Who cares if everyone in the world registers? If no one posts then all those people who registered means nothing. It is very hard to attract members and i too have been part of a failed Graphics/Art forum.
Just leave it the way it is and produce more advertising ideas. I guess people are just less interested in pixels now. Pretty much every good Runescape pixeler doesn't make RS art now and this has given birth to the horrible paint cartoons people use as well as rather bad pixel artists. If you look at Runescape Community's 'picture' section *shudders* you'll see what i mean. Good luck finding a decent artist there!
Actively advertising on other sites would definitely help. Not just the "RSM" Sig, but posts too telling people that they can get art rated here etc. Maybe art based competitions with an incentive, a point system which may attract artists.
Ah well i'm sure i've posted enough now. Hope it helps =p

just like to say, GO VIDEL!
i totaly agree with what your saying, we need more active members, thats the main issue, its always been the main issue

A little late on this one videl. You see a week later my thoughts have already changed on this forums situation.
Targeting main runescape websites isn't enough, Rune HQ hates us, Tip.It forbids signature selling, Mayhem Makers doesn't care, and Runescape Community also forbids selling.
That's why i'm convinced that advertising is not the method to get us more active members. After all (To sound like you) you could advertise to the whole world, but if your website has no content, it will not go.
Events are key, and though it may sound a little cliche by now, it's true. Hosting drop parties may not seem like a big active member bringer, and it's not. It's for reputation.
Reputation is the path we need to go down. I suggest we host more competitions, games, events, etc. Not all have to award prizes, and not all have to award prizes in the form of runescape gp. Maybe signatures or avatars, or even real money.
videl - August 17, 2007 09:04 PM (GMT)
I can see why it's hard. Thinking of original events definitely is the key. I guess interest must once more be raised to be quality posters. A while back when there was the posting competition and there was j0k3r signature for the prize. I am not certain whether that worked or not but it was a good idea. Maybe a topic to brain wave ideas would go down well.
P.S. I'm sure that Runescape Community still allows sig selling.
PJB21 - August 17, 2007 09:26 PM (GMT)
im currently auctioning 3 sigs on RSC and ive sold many in their sig selling section, they still sell (which is a problem because people, such as me, go there to do all the sig selling and buying instead of comming here where its very quiet on the sig selling front)
but as stated, we need to get a reputation, and a good one at that!
which brings me on to a point, what kind of rep do we want for ourselves? this has a major effect on what we do to gain a rep, do we want to be the people who always give things out at no cost? the people you can just beg off? (however i belive we arnt anything like that, not are we tight...)

Hiimbear - August 17, 2007 11:58 PM (GMT)
I just had an idea, don't know if it's any good but hey, I just woke up and may aswell contribute.
I was thinking of making large scale pieces of art with members of RSM and one other forum (multiple times for multiple forums) and give them the link to this forum to see updates to the piece earlier, etc, etc, to entice them to join.
Just an idea :) I also agree with condensing the forums, should be good :)
Axeraider67 - August 18, 2007 05:22 AM (GMT)
Ok but, Videl, see. Posting competitions usually encourage spam. Oh but there are ways to control that, it would just make the competition even more hard and make people not want to participate in it. Or the people that do participate are people that are already members of the forum.
PJB i think you already know the answer, so please don't ask the question. If you don't, then allow me to elighten you.
We want a reputation that shows we can accept new and beginning artists, and allow them to gain more experiance through selling them for Runescape GP. The idea is already out there, so we're not that original. Making it just another board that allows it.
I dunno what kinds of things we should do, but i know what we shouldn't. Oh how helpful i am.
PJB21 - August 18, 2007 07:46 AM (GMT)
i had a good idea, but im aware not all people are, i was more asking on their behalf so as they knew where we were wanting to go, so they could contribute to ideas without being flamed (not that were those kind of nasty people...) but you know what i mean
if we cant think of what we can do, thinkinig of what we can will help, even if its not as productive
i sugest making 3 lists, things that can be done, things we want to do, and things we dont want to do, this will help to give a clearer idea (it would be useful if that is placed in one post for easy referance, we cluld use mine, but im going away on monday for a week, so i wont be able to update for a while.
but ill make a start
things that can be done:
- drop party
- SOTW
- SOTW with prizes (gp, art, posably real money)
- runescape events (eg bronze war, firemaking party etc)
just some ideas to get us started, and they are fairly general, thweres multipul different sig types, and MANY different rs events that we can do.

Most sites do not like it to just put in sigs or posts links to this site
lol i got a -2 at RsC for doing that several times XD (dont go there anymore)
but what i think we should do is:
try to make a website for Rsm with a link to the forum (like axe said)
but also if we could make an Advertisment page like Clans have to recruit members, i think ive seen B_joker post it somewhere a long time ago
maybe some1 dig it up ( i would but im on vacation loading a page takes ages) and remake it into this awesome advert to show off our community and art :P
and as soon as i get back imma change all of my sigs and add a link in them with RsM
untill get totally banned from RsC XD
cheers
And about the admins, they are prolly on vacation, just wait till this summer vacation is over and I think we will get a lot more action again
@ Axe: 2xgu is looking good btw :P
