Title: Ice melt on quarry tile floors---update

I posted a question on wheter or not windshield washer fluid would remove ice melt residue and found out it works great. I use a cup of washer fluid to four gallons of water and follow this up with a clear water rinse. If there is any more ice melt tracked in it isn't nearly as bad and eaiser to remove. To eliminate the retracking I sweep up the unmelted ice melt around the doors and removed any slush that is on the walks and my floors stay dryer and are free of the residue. My supervisor tried this at a couple other accounts she has and says even the ones with floor finish looks great after doing it this way.

We think of it as just old windshield wash solution but the MSD gives the following cautions.
Causes severe eye irritation.
Highly toxic and may be fatal if swallowed. Toxic and harmful if absorbed through skin.
Toxic and harmful if inhaled.

Putting it in a pump sprayer increases inhalation. No gloves facilitates absorbtion of skin.
MSD suggests over exposure use oxygen and CPR if need be.
Lady Luck will survive; your health might not.
Is it stored in a locked closet where the public cannot access. We had a child enter an unlocked closet and spill bleach all over themselves.
Alot of sites suggest using 1/2 water, 1/2 white vinegar. Pre treat and then apply towels to absorb.

We have a product that's called "Metal Soap", I hate the smell, but it does a good job of cleaning salt/ice melt residue. Vinegar does work, as does window cleaner. I use a broom and sweep off as much salt outside at the entrances as possible to keep it from being tracked in.
Spring is not far off! The days are getting longer too!

I presented my idea to the snow removal employee that when he applies salt or snow melt that it would be nice if he would stop short at about twenty feet short of the stairs or doorway. He tried it and agreed that pedestrians carry it into the buffer zone and not into the building.
Its been fantastic.
