I'm getting alittle..inpatient! I've applied to many schools, and even got as far as an interview!-But that's just it, I've never got hired yet as a custodian.
Do custodians only work in schools and hospitals? What about private colleges (briarcliff?)...do they hire custodians? And churches...do they need custodians? Is there any other places that need custodians??? Pls help...

Getting impatient! :pullhair:
Sorry to here that. I didn't get a gig with a school until I was around 43 years old...It takes alot of knowledge to do what we do and if you don't have it ,, they will know. A custodian /Janitor has become a very specialized position(especially with the school boards) You need to know what you are doing. It's not just cleaning toilets ( the old mentality). It takes a very diffrent kind of person now a days. Every building needs a custodian, church, business, legion, parks, anywhere there is a toilet there needs to be a custodian. So, Keep trying and if they don't want you, then maybe you don't have what they want and move on. Sorry to sound harsh, I don't mean it to sound that way. But.... You dont just dust counter tops and clean toilets in this Industry anymore.
Hope this helps

Ask everyone one you know if they know anyone in the place yo are apllying for. Who you know has alot to do with your getting hired unfortunately, and then if you find someone who has worked there for a while who will vouch foyou you have a good chance of getting the job. Good Luck Louk

Hello friends. Cleanup Woman has resurfaced. Not been posting because of work load and sick hubby plus I have been out some with an injury. Being a custodian is a " CALLING " . You have to be good at it and you have to love it. If you are in a school you better love kids. I love my job and don't think I would be happy doing anything else.
