Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, hobbits and hobos, too Fantasy World Network’s Grand Final Fantasy VII Race, in affiliation with The Final Fantasy VII Citadel and Final Fantasy Origins.

The idea is pretty simple. The game is a race, from the beginning of Final Fantasy VII to Fort Condor on disc one. The aim is to be the fastest person to the goal, beating all competition with the quickest time on the games clock.

The winner will be the person who sends in the lowest time, proved by a photo, and will win himself or herself the title of Final Fantasy VII Champion.

Sound simple enough? Please read all the following rules before entering.

1 Anyone may enter, whether you are a member of the Fantasy World Network or not. Staff members and affiliations are also allowed to enter.

2 Participant’s time will be proven via any photographical method, be it through means of a digital or film camera, web cam or polaroid. Please note however that the Fantasy World Network can only accept photos via e-mail or PM and that any physical images will have to be scanned.

3 The photo you send in must clearly show both the games clock and your current location (Fort Condor). Please note you must be INSIDE Fort Condor, not at the base, entrance or world map.

user posted image

4 Any editing of your photographical method is strictly forbidden. Any attempt to cheat by lowering your time will force us to disqualify you from the race AND ban you permanently from the Fantasy World Network and possibly from affiliating sites.

5 The in game clock counts every second, meaning everyone counts. In the extremely unlikely event of a tie, a sudden death race will be arranged.

5 No photos will be accepted after midnight GMT on 14th May.

As an extra incentive, as well as a full leader board of times, the average/mean time of each participating site (Fantasy World, The Final Fantasy VII Citadel, Final Fantasy Origins) will be posted at the end of the contest. Every person’s time counts if you wish your site to be known as having the best Final Fantasy VII players!

If you wish to take part in the Grand Final Fantasy VII Race please send your full real name and (if you have one) Collector's Board username to Joshuamarketis@aol.com with the subject line ‘Grand Final Fantasy VII Race’ or PM CloudANDTidus. Please include which forum you are from.

Participants have from now until midnight GMT on 23rd April to register. Unregistered entries will not be accepted. You will then have three weeks (24th April to 14th May) to complete the race and send in your photo evidence.

Any questions, please ask.

Good luck, and have fun!

Sounds like a good idea, too bad I can't enter, no means of taking a photograph.

Any photo method is useable. Surely you can get hold of a mobile phone with a cam?

Anyway, come on guys! I've had no sign ups from this site. This event is going to be great!

I'd be in this in a second if it was for a game I was more familiar with (FF1, 4, 6, maybe even 2), but 7 was never really my thing. I haven't played it in so long, I don't remember how far into the game it is. About how long should it normally take?

Do you allow multiple submissions, such as in the event that you achieve a better time after you've submitted once?

edit: I just made a news post about this on my site, so maybe some people who don't belong to the board will participate.

Doubtful. I could do the run and save there, then later reload the save and take a picture if I happen to get my hands on a camera.

Funny, a digital camera was at the top of my lists of purchases for a while... hmm, I do have a tiny bit of extra money, can someone point me to a cheap one that doesn't suck total ass?

What is cheap to you? I got mine on clearance for under $50. 3.1 megapixels native, video, TV hookup. I think it was originally $100.

$50 is good, I really don't want to spend a lot because I'll rarely use it.

I have reconsidered. I will enter this contest where I will win nothing, because after all, what other things could I possibly have going on in my life?

CloudANDTidus, here is my humble attempt at giving TCB a good name in your grand contest. Marcelo and I hope to make TCB proud.

Yes, Marcelo, yes you do.

I am also a cat, although you can't see me grinning very well.

What's that? Does it involve me winning something? (Nah, I just have more fun doing other things. I just don't feel like going past the ShinRa building is all.)

How many other people besides Marcelo and I have entered the contest?

Also, why Fort Condor? Does that location have any real significance? Wouldn't something like "shortest time to first getting Red XIII in your party" be more noteworthy?

Might only take like two hours, but still. Who has 35 hours to spend on a speedrun that isn't to the very end of the game? It's like a speedrun through Flyff. *shrug*

The other two forums in this contest have given it alot of support.

And it does not take 35 hours. >.> That image was taken from a file on Disc 2.

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of this contest. But I'm very tired of all the attention Final Fantasy VII is getting lately, there are much better Final Fantasy games out there. Plus, I have no intention of playing FF7 again until 2011 the earliest. Either way I wish your contest success.

Thank you.

And as for the choice of game, it was voted on and really bassed on who had access to what. Sure, it might have been better to chose a different one but if only 2 people have it or wish to play it, whats the point?

Guess you can delete this thread Collector.

Don't give up that easily. Someone else could still show up and participate, and I haven't completely ruled it out myself.

Two factors that could have effected the response of your contest at TCB.

1) Most TCBeers seem to be jaded toward new ideas. Cynical perhaps as well.

2) TCB is the forum of a FF1 forum, and not FF7.

Don't take our lack of interest, or us fucking around with you too badly. I'm just glad that you didn't try to challenge my entry. I know I'll get first place for sure. happy.gif
