Title: The magic of 32X

(By the way, is the real name of this thing the "Genesis 32X"? That's what it says on it.)

I saw this topic recently at GameFAQs about whether the 32Xs improves performance of Genesis games, smooths out the graphics, etc. Answers seem a little mixed. Some say the graphics are cleaner and more crisp, brighter, more colors, etc. Some say it helps the Genesis' processor, getting rid of slowdown.

I thought the Genny was known for being fast, and I haven't played it enough to remember any games having slowdown. I was hoping it could help improve the Genesis' shitty video output though. Does it? Well, kinda.

I'm running a Genesis 2, because I don't have the cable to use the 32X with the first model. My stock Genesis has extremely noticeable vertical bars across the screen whenever it's black. The 32X completely does away with these, and seems to make the picture a little cleaner otherwise, but not too much. Unfortunately it also adds some interference, in the form of horizontal waves. Maybe this is because I'm not using those metal shielding things, since I don't know where mine are.

As for the normal Genesis bad video output, where objects seem to have these ugly, jagged auras around them, it doesn't seem to help.

I'll try to get some screens later today showing the difference.
edit: No go on the screens. My video capture deally doesn't like the Genesis.

Auras? I don't recall those offhand. Just an extremely bad resolution for SDTVs.

Maybe auras isn't right. There's just an ugliness wherever one solid color meets another, like the colors are bleeding in every possible direction.
