Title: Your collection collection

Collector - January 20, 2007 09:56 AM (GMT)
A topic at GameFAQs made me want to make this one.

What game compilations do you have? I try to pick up as many of these as possible because they tend to have games that have never been released on consoles before, ones that haven't made it to the US before, or the best version of them.

Genesis:
Arcade Classics - Just 3 games: Pong, Missile Command, and Centipede. I haven't played this in a while, so I don't know how accurate it is.
Genesis 6-Pack - A few Genesis games in one. Good deal. A couple of them aren't even that common in their original form.

Sega CD:
Sega Classics Arcade Collection - This was a pack-in with the first version of the Sega CD. A few Genesis games in one. Not bad.

SNES:
Super Mario All-Stars - Apart from the previously unreleased SMB2j (Lost Levels), I don't know why I got so excited over this at the time. I guess I just like slightly better versions of things. :D Still nice though.
Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World - Completely unnecessary, but I had to get it. :)

PS1:
Activision Classics - Collection of Activision's Atari 2600 games. I'm not as big a fan of Activision as many Atari fans, but there's some good stuff. This one's been obsoleted by a newer collection though.
Arcade's Greatest Hits - The best of Williams. Sinistar! *drools* Also obsoleted.
Final Fantasy Anthology - Nice to get FF5, but these aren't great ports.
Final Fantasy Chronicles - FF4 ain't bad, especially considering it was actually made before the other ports. I've heard Chrono Trigger is the worst of these ports, but I haven't played it.
Final Fantasy Origins
Namco Museum Volume 1-5 - #1 & #3 were Greatest Hits, but the rest were tough to track down. Lots of great and obscure games in these. Each one has a Pac-Man game. :)
Street Fighter Collection 2 - Nice ports of the earlier SF2 games. Worth keeping for the lack of FSAA.

Dreamcast:
Namco Museum - Poor showing for this title. Every other version I've tried is better than this.
Sega Smash Pack Volume 1 - Mostly Genesis games. The sound isn't great on this, but it's a nice set. Worth it for the one Saturn game included: Virtua Cop.
Street Fighter 3 Double Impact - These are barely separate games, but I'm still counting it.

PS2:
Activision Anthology - Very nice collection of Activision's Atari 2600 games (with 80's tunes for background music). The only thing that could've made it any better would be adding their games from other pre-NES consoles, their (very few) arcade games, or the Imagic catalog, which I think they own.
Atari Anthology - Lots of Atari 2600 games and some of Atari's arcade games. There are 84 games total, but it feels incomplete since a lot of the favorites couldn't be included because they were licenses (Space Invaders, for example).
Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 1-2 - These are just fantastic. I can't say enough good things about them.
Intellivision Lives - Though I have a couple of them now, I didn't have an Intellivision when I was young, so there aren't too many games here that I remember fondly. Too many sports games, actually. Mostly though, it's the same problem as Atari's collection, many of the best games couldn't be included.
Midway Arcade Treasures - Great collection of games that Midway owns. This includes their own games, the old Williams games, and some Atari games.
Pac-Man World 2 - Playing the main game unlocks various Pac-Man arcade games. Nice.
Sega Genesis Collection - A lot of games for the money on this one. There's also a few arcade games to unlock.
Street Fighter Alpha Anthology - Good stuff here.
Street Fighter Anniversary Collection - The version of SSF2T here is not my favorite (because of the tough AI), but the best SF3 couldn't be passed up.
Taito Legends - Really nice collection, but a couple of odd choices. Super Qix but no regular Qix? Huh.

GameCube:
Animal Crossing - Lots of NES games to find on this.
The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition - Unnecessary really, but it was free. Well, at least I can play Zelda 2 without worrying about my battery dying.
Mega Man Anniversary Collection - I <3 Mega Man, but the controls on this version suck.
Midway Arcade Treasures 2 - More of the same. Too bad they screwed up MK2 so you can't fight the secret characters. :(
Namco Museum - Why so few games compared to the PS1 releases? Come on!
Pac-Man Vs. / Pac-Man World 2
Sonic Gems Collection - Sonic the Fighters is surprisingly not bad. I would've liked more video options for the Game Gear games. Actually, I would've preferred to have the SMS versions on here too, since they had higher resolution.
Star Wars Rogue Squadron 3 Rebel Strike - Old Star Wars arcade games on here. Neat. :D

Xbox:
Doom 3 Limited Collector's Edition - Classic Doom games playable on a television appealed to me. Just need to get a damn Xbox...
Mortal Kombat Deception Kollector's Edition - I had to get this, since MK1 was left off of MAT2 for it.
Tecmo Classic Arcade - Seemed like a pretty poor set, especially since they were charging $10 more than most collections. I got it for... what, $5? I can live with that.

Game.com:
Arcade Classics - The old Williams games, in portable form. Woo, portable Sinistar! Except... it sucks. Yeah, apparently Tiger didn't make a handheld that could handle powerful 1980's games. Robotron and Joust are okay though.

GBA:
Arcade Advanced - Classic Konami goodness. Not enough of it though. And these seem to be based on the NES versions instead of the arcade version. :/ There's portable Frogger though (which was never on the NES), and that's nice.
Castlevania Double Pack - Harmony was too damn hard to find on its own. This would've been a better deal if I didn't already have Aria though.
Final Fantasy 1&2 Dawn of Souls
Midway's Greatest Arcade Hits - The Williams games again. Good portable Sinistar, right?! Ooh, sorry. The controls are weird, and the voice is pretty quiet if you don't use headphones. Still playable though.
Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness / Pac-Man World - I thought this was neat because it was PS1 games ported to the GBA. Too bad they left off the arcade Pac-Man that the PS1 version of PMW included.
Namco Museum - Pretty slim here, but not bad.
Pac-Man Collection - Not bad at all.
Sega Smash Pack - Who the hell picked these games out? I know people like Ecco, but at least put a real Sonic or something on it. Jeez. Or, well, maybe my problem is that it's only 3 games. Bleh, anyway.

PC:
Activision Classics - Not sure about the title, but it's what the PS1 collection was based on. Originally came in 2 volumes, but mine is together. Pretty pointless now.
Activision Anthology: Remix Edition - Everything from the PS2 version, and a little bit more. Different music though.
Sega Smash Pack vol 1-2 - 1 is the same as on Dreamcast (minus Virtua Cop, I think). 2 is more good Genesis stuff. Too bad it didn't make it to the Dreamcast too. Mostly obsoleted by the Sega Genesis Collection now though.
Sonic Action 4 Pack - This has Smash Pack 2 (not 1?), Sonic CD, Sonic & Knuckles, and Sonic R. Nice, right? What's better is that I picked up brand new for $1.
Microsoft Return of Arcade Anniversary Edition - Basically a Windows version of Namco Museum. It's nice, especially for quick windowed fun.
Dungeons & Dragons collection - Don't know the name really, but it was at least 9 different D&D games in one.
Ultima Collection - Also not sure about the name, but it's games 1-8... I guess. To be honest I haven't played any Ultima games for more than a couple of minutes. So I don't really know how good this is.
Castlevania & Contra Collection - I really didn't need this, but I had to have it. you know.

Plug n Play:
Activision TV Games - Pretty much Activision Classics, but with worse emulation and now choice about the controller. I shouldn't have bought it, but it was the first legal 10-in-1 plug n play I ever saw, and I got excited.
Atari TV Games - Just some Atari 2600 games. Neat for being shaped like an old Atari joystick, but not really a good way to play these games at all.
Atari Flashback - Really neat. The games aren't perfect, since it's running on NES hardware, but that's what makes it neat. It's shaped like a little Atari 7800. Mostly 2600 games, but some 7800.
Namco TV Games - Similar to Namco Museum vol. 1. They play okay, but the sound isn't great.
Namco Ms. Pac-Man TV Games - Basically like Namco Museum vol 3. Maybe slightly better emulation than the other one. I don't remember though.
Namco Ms. Pac-Man TV Games (wireless) - I'm sure you wanted a way to play these games using twice as many batteries and having to make sure nothing got in the way of the sensor, right? Right?
Space Invaders - A few Taito classics in a nice arcade stick. Not bad.
Street Fighter II Special Champion Edition w/ Ghouls n' Ghosts - Nice emulation here, and it's a tiny Genesis with 2 (colored) 6-button controllers. Too expensive at its original price though.
Konami Arcade Advanced - Same games as the GBA one, but on your TV. Not bad. They also sold one with just Frogger for the same price. Kinda stupid.

Nice topic.

I think I have the following collection collections:

Super Mario All-Stars
Activision Classics
Final Fantasy Chronicles
Namco Museum (PS1 - the A one, I think)

And that's all the ones I think I have, without checking (or cheating).

Collector - January 21, 2007 12:22 AM (GMT)
Forgot:
PS2:
Mega Man X Collection - I was waiting for this to happen. Too bad they cut out some of the special features they'd planned, but I just wanted it for the games.

Scumdogg - January 21, 2007 12:34 AM (GMT)
Wish i had access to my game wall at this point in time. I have quite a few. Not nearly as many as Collector, but still a lot. I agree though, good topic.

Collector - February 24, 2009 12:32 AM (GMT)
Necropostulation!

I stumbled onto this old topic and saw that it didn't get much participation, so here now it is back.

Updates and stuff I forgot before:
NES/Famicom:
Donkey Kong Classics - Good because DKJr on its own is hard to find.
Final Fantasy I-II - I still need to pick these up on their own on the Fam.
Super Mario Bros. / Duck Hunt - My first compilation, maybe the first ever?
Super Mario Bros. / Duck Hunt / World Class Track Meet - And then it got better.

Game Boy Color:
Dragon Warrior I-II

Game Boy Advance:
Tron 2.0 Killer App - Has a couple old arcade games on it.

GameCube:
Nintendo Puzzle Collection - Dr. Mario, Yoshi's Cookie and Panel de Pon with purdy graphics and new multiplayer modes.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3: Mutant Nightmare - Comes with Turtles in Time, with butchered sound.

DS:
Konami Classics Series Arcade Hits - First time we got arcade Contra at home, and still the only non-download home version.
Contra 4 - Contains NES Contra and Super C.

Playstation:
Bubble Bobble also featuring Rainbow Islands - This may still be the best home version of these games, and my first exposure to Rainbow Islands.
Final Fantasy Collection - Has FF4,5,6.

Playstation 2:
Art of Fighting Anthology - Fewer games in this than most of the SNK collections, but still good.
Devil May Cry 5th Anniversary Collection - First 3 games, including the best version of 3.
Fatal Fury Battle Archives Volume 1 - The multiple plane system used in this might be cool if it wasn't implemented so poorly.
Metal Slug Anthology - Supposed to be the best version of this, also first time for part 6 at home (according to the box).
Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks - Has unlockable MKII. I haven't checked, but hopefully the secret characters aren't bugged out like on MAT2.
SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1 - Some of the best stuff on here is redundant with other compilations. They really need to make one of their pre-NeoGeo stuff.
Space Channel 5 Special Edition - This thing tries to make it sound like it's only one game, but it includes the (previously unreleased in the US) second game. That seems like poor marketing.
Taito Legends 2 - This introduced me to a few cool games I'd never heard of.
World Heroes Anthology - Not that I'm complaining, but even though they're numbered, these games have about as much in common as Street Fighter II, CE, Turbo, etc. As in, they're all basically the same game with mostly the same graphics, but with a few changes, new characters, new moves, etc.
Sega Ages 2500 Gunstar Heroes Treasure Box - A few Genesis Treasure titles, too bad I still can't play it.
Sega Ages 2500 Monster World Complete Collection - Lots of Wonder Boy / Monster World games, most of which have English versions included. Ditto on not being able to play it. :(

PSP:
Atari Classics Evolved - A mess.
Capcom Classics Collection Remixed and Reloaded - Same games as the PS2 collection (buy divided up differently).
Castlevania The Dracula X Chronicles - Would've really liked the SNES Dracula X game included too, but still great stuff.
Gradius Collection - 1-4 + Gaiden, nice.
Midway Arcade Treasures Extended Play - It'd be nice if it had more stuff included, but it's still pretty good.
Sega Genesis Collection - Same basic games as the PS2 version, but different unlockable ones. Nice.
Taito Legends Power-Up - lol, more like power down - Er, I mean, some of the best games from the console collections are missing here. Boo. New "arranged" versions don't make up for the lack of portable Jungle Hunt, Bubble Bobble, Growl, Majestic 13, etc. (Especially when they're arranged versions of games I don't care about in the first place.) Booo.
Salamander Portable - Salamander, Lifeforce, and even a Gradius game. Good stuff.

SMS:
Hang On / Astro Warrior
Hang On / Safari Hunt - I guess they really wanted people to play Hang On.

SNES:
You know, I think I remember getting Tetris & Dr. Mario, but I don't have it noted in my collection. I believe I'll have to investigate this.

Xbox:
Dead Or Alive Ultimate - Boobs.
Tron 2.0 Killer App - Pretty sure this has the old arcade games on it.

I'd have to take some pictures. 2 shelves full of shit and then some, I can't remember everything me and my roomies own :D

Scumdogg - February 28, 2009 08:53 PM (GMT)
Oh yeah, i forgot to participate in this. I have no idea what games i have that feature unlockable older versions or whatever, and kind of dispute those as being "collections", but here's what i've got off the top of my head. I've also avoided including any minigame collections of things that couldn't stand on their own merits (Wii Sports, etc).

Oh, and regarding your SMB/Duck Hunt theory of the first-ever collection cart, what about the Odyssey2? Many of the games on that system were comprised of two separate titles on one cart. I have a bunch but probably won't bother listing them here.

NES:
Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt
Tecmo World Cup/Superspike V-Ball

Sega Genesis:
Arcade Classics
Funny World/Balloon Boy
6-Pak

Saturn:
Bubble Bobble also featuring Rainbow Islands

Tetris/Dr. Mario
Midway Presents Arcade Hits: The Atari Collection
Williams Arcade Hits

Playstation:
Arcade Party Pack
Final Fantasy Origins
Final Fantasy Anthology

Dreamcast:
Street Fighter III Double Impact
Midway Collection vol. 1
Midway Collection vol. 2

GBA:
Capcom Classics Minimix
Marble Madness/Klax
Pac-Man Collection
Konami Collection Arcade Advanced
Final Fantasy Dawn of Souls

PSP:
Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles
Gradius Collection

PS2:
Art of Fighting Anthology
Atari Anthology
Activision Anthology
Capcom Classics Collection vol. 2
Fatal Fury Battle Archives vol. 1
Fatal Fury Battle Archives vol. 2
Mega Man X Collection
Metal Slug 4/5
Sega Genesis Collection
Taito Legends
Taito Legends 2
Street Fighter Alpha Anthology

Xbox:
Capcom Classics Collection vol. 1 (still need to replace this with PS2 version)
Midway Arcade Treasures
Midway Arcade Treasures 2
Midway Arcade Treasures 3
Tecmo Classic Arcade
Star Wars Clone Wars/Tetris Worlds (both such awful games...)
Street Fighter Anniversary Collection

Gamecube:
Mega Man Anniversary Collection
Sonic Mega Collection

Xbox 360:
The Orange Box

I'm sure i forgot some, but that's probably close to all of them. I've really tried to avoid redundancy, buying things only when they have enough worthwhile new games to justify the price or represent a significant upgrade over other versions i may already have. I wasn't even going to buy the Sonic Collection, someone just gave it to me for free. :)

Collector - March 1, 2009 01:47 AM (GMT)
For the Odyssey2, I think I'd only count them if the games were also available separately. Like that DS game, Retro Game Challenge, I wouldn't count, even though it has about 9 games. Or Wii Sports.

Reminds me I forgot about Quattro Adventure and Quattro Sports, but I don't know if any of those games were available separately or not.
Also on the NES:
Maxi 15
Super Spike V'Ball / Nintendo World Cup

Oh, why? Just like the PS2 controller better?

Oh, why? Just like the PS2 controller better?

Because my Xbox, like most Xboxes by this point, is pretty much useless.

Jax - March 15, 2009 10:40 AM (GMT)
I only have a couple (if you don't count Emulators) --

Namco Classics Vol. 1 and 3 for Playstation.
Midway Arcade Treasures 3 for PS2.

Namco TV Games and Activision TV Games (that one was for my River Raid lovin' dad...)

I have played the Mega Man Anniversary Collection on PS2 on a rental...
