I'm crazy about this show!!! I think the Betty character represents an individual that almost all women can relate to - especially young women at an age where they're just starting their careers, concerned about how they appear to other people, and are likely facing all sorts of body image issues. I Congratulate Selma Hayek for tapping into a theme that is desperately needed in television that targets the twenty-something female demographic - A show with a very strong female lead who knows who she is, is satisfied with herself, and doesn't succumb to external pressures to become something everyone else thinks she should be. I hope more shows like this come along- maybe there would be some boosted self-images out there, and girls would be proud of themselves instead of hurting their bodies to look like the re-touched women in the fashion mags and the mentally disturbed young actresses that have inexplicably become role models.

Did you see America in Real Women Have Curves...that's when I first knew I liked this chica :D And your so right...women and girls need a show like this so much. I also love that she just believes in herself and no one is able to take that away from her! It's so refreshing!!

Yes - I saw that Indie Hit "real Women Have Curves" a few years ago. I was really impressed by her performance and felt a real sense of female empowerment by the end of the movie. It's funny how that movie had the same fashion theme as 'Ugly Betty'.

Women should have curves. If we didn't, we'd be men lol! I'm really against this whole culture of androgenous looking women (the majority of guys don't like it either[/COLOR]).
But I'm sure we're all victims of pop-culture to an extent. Even though I'm pro-good-self-image, I admittedly can't go one day without sighing at one part of my anatomy and wishing I could trade it in for the Super-Model version! lol! I'm not a hypocrite... just human!

The only way I really ward off temptation to self-critique is to really focus on becoming my most healthy me, not a Nicole-Ritchie like Skeletor-woman.. I make my gym time a priority, and I concentrate on a whole, food, clean diet. And if at the end of the day, I still like ice-cream, and my Bum still has a dimple or two.... hey, who's counting? lol! :ok:

I have a feeling this blog is going to inevitably attract a few strings of commentary regarding female struggles with self-esteem and body Image.... not just how much we like the show. I hope it won't be discouraged if anyone comes here looking for support... The kindest thing we can do for each other as women (or men!) living in todays world is to promote wholesome, healthy mentalities about what true beauty really means. :D

I welcome the healthy discussion about body image and the way women and now young girls are being protrayed. So it's all good!!
