Title: Advice On A 1500 List
Description: What the heading says...

Calaith - April 21, 2006 01:08 PM (GMT)

Hi guys, which probably cheftly means Meaphet and maybe KB. I was wondering what you thought of this 1500 Necron list I've brewed, based on an expansion of Meaphet's 1,000 points list. The very same that wooped my butt online and inspired me into making this one. The list is a very heavily shooty army, with only one exceptionof Scarabs and Wraith Lord.
Now, without further adew:

HQ

Necron Lord, SoL, Res. Orb, Gaze of Flame, Phylactery, Phase Shifter.
200

Necron Lord, War Scythe, Res. Orb, Destroyer Body, Phase Shifter.
210

Elites

8 Immortals
224

Troops

10 Warriors
180

10 Warriors
180

Fast Attack

4 Destroyers
200

6 Scarabs, Disruption Fields
96

Heavy Support

Heavy Destroyer
65

Heavy Destroyer
65

Heavy Destroyer
65

Grand Total: 1485

Necrons: 37 Phase Out: 9

The tactics are: sending my Destroyers as an initial wave of destruction, aiming at all the enemies heavy armour and nasty units/things that will be most threatening to the main body of troops. This is supported by the very solid Core of Immortals and Warriors supported by a Lord who advance slowly as an impossible wall of fire shooting apart the remaining infantry of my oponents army.
My Wraith Lord (Destroyer Lord) was simply a fun option, who flies aboout with the Scarabs. Essentially a flexible squad capable of taking down both week infantry units, tangle strong infantry units and target weak armour alike. I chose Scarabs over Wraiths as they are an infinitaly more stable and stubborn squad who offer the Lord more protection, and stick to my armies theme of unstoppable.

Comments are welcome.
Cheers, Cal

In my personal exp 20 Necron Warriors in 1.5k aint the best optican you need at least 40, otherwise fhase out is just around the warpgate.

 okay... eh  hm <_< . You should play a agaist a necron army at 1.5k, then you may understand why 20 is not enough.

well in craigs defence not everybody looks at the writing to the side bar a quick glance to check the author, now is inquisitor crying because he doesnt want Cal to bring that to bear against him or because he thinks the list is so bad?

Yes I did know, it was a lance question. Besides I said he should play against one, prehaps with his own Necron force. I Would play him with mine, it would be intresting.

I did know that it said Necron Lord, however titles are erned therefore it means very little. (At least to me anyway.)

The list is Good he's probably crying because he has to face it. My suggestion would have made it better, in my opinion anyways.

the problem with having 40 warriors in a 1500 pt list is that you lose your diversity and lists starrt looking oddly familiar

LOL diversity, you always find somthing to moan about. Diversity lol that has to be the worst one you've come up with yet. My 1.5K Necron army has 60 & is unlike most due to it's characters that make up for your so called diversity.

Chivi'queleste - May 6, 2006 11:55 PM (GMT)
I like to see more infantry in Necron armies as well. Though all but the Scarabs count toward your 'Necron' phase-out limit, you still have fairly few models to buffer your phase-out.

Then again, I'm just not really a fan of Destroyers and Heavy Destroyers. For me, they're just too many points put into a unit that is easily isolated and eliminated.

I prefer Flayed Ones, Wraiths, and occasionally, Spyders.

Meaphet Ran - May 8, 2006 12:57 PM (GMT)
ok the problem with not having diversity is it limits your tactics, now im assuming your 1.5k list has a small problem with comming up with anything to throw your opponent off with, "what that more warriors? wonder what he could be doing with them..."

the key to winning with necrons isnt to just feild more warriors its to make it different to the other "standard lists" such as your more warriors, if i had a dollar for every massed warrior necron army ive seen id have around $18.30 the problem is, just all warriors everyone knows how to beat it, with a more diverse list you can do more and your list isnt like the other necron armies this guy just tore though, he actually has to think.

so whats your problem with diversity?

Chivi'queleste - May 9, 2006 02:39 AM (GMT)
No problem at all with diversity. I just like branch out in other areas at times. I'd rather toss in units other than destroyers simply because I feel them to be a bit of a brightly painted target, and I prefer the up close 'in your face' style of play with a Necron army.

Then again, as an IG player with about 150 models, with a 225+ model Empire army, and a 250+ model Skaven army, as well as infantry heavy Marine and Daemonhunter armies, I tend to think More Is Better in most cases.

The difference being my Eldar army which fields an average of 10 vehicles.

Just a matter of taste, more so than that of perspective, I think.

list looks good. I am not a big fan of heavy destroyers though. I use to use them, but found destroyers more effective, more shots, stronger unit size.

you may not need all that gear for your lord either, I would drop the phylatery and phase shifter on your foot lord. his role should be keeping your warriors and immortals alive with his res orb. try not to get him in cc. the destroyer lord is fine, surround him with two or three full units of destroyers, flank your enemy and use him to assault small weak squads and the rear armor of tanks. I used this against IG once, destroyer lord took out 3 tanks.

immortals are awesome. if you can, try and get another squad. two squads of six or seven each can deal out alot of damage. a second squad will also increase thier chance of survival in case one squad gets taken out.

I would try and add a few more warriors to each squad, I find a unit of 12 or 14 are harder to take down.
