The two things I'm wondering about are:
Do the dark blue spots look too splotchy or does it resemble that molted camo-like look that Alaitoc Craftworld has?
Do the turquoise gems blend in too much with the blue armor? Should I go with a DA green (emerald) or scorpy green (peridot) to provide a higher contrast against the blue?

I think going with a completely different colour would help the gems stand out more. blue & green tend to merge well together, especially with the alatioc painting style your going with. Maybe a yellow or red gem??? ones on the weapons stand out nicely against the pale colour.
I like the effort with the blue on the bodies though

Yeah, red or orange would have been the obvious choices, but for some reason I didn't like the thought of that.. I think yellow would just blend into the blue/gold color scheme.
Hmmm... What about an Amethyst colored Liche purple?

Darker purple could work for the gems. The whole scheme seems to have a very light refreshing feel to it, not the forboding or fiery feel that bright and dark colours can give. It'd be a shame to ruin that with red gems.
They look quite good. The armour is a bit splotchy but I assumed that was deliberate, and it doesn't look bad at all if you're trying to get the molten camo look. The weapons and helmets are of a good contrast as well.

Thanks Cal.
About the "brightness," I primed them white, so I guess it was a little less forgiving in terms of showing missing spots, but I think the light coat of Midnight Blue (or whatever it's called) came through a lot brighter because of the white undercoat.
I wasn't necessarily trying to do the camo the same as the 'Eavy Metal guys did in the codex, but I did want them to definitely look Alaitoc and I typically use Pathfinders for my troops.
I'm working on Rangers, Wraithguard and Storm Guardians now. Rangers should be up in a couple days since I'm getting close.

Here is my squad of 6 Rangers. I'm going to do six more just like them, but I only have one, so the rest will wait.
I'm pretty happy with how the camouflaged cloaks turned out.
These are also the first figures that I've based for my Eldar.
Comments welcome.

Rangers...or Pathfinders ;)
They look cool, I like the colour scheme you've chosen. Keep at it.
The camera perhaps doesn't do them justice though. The reflective surface their sitting on may reflect too much artificial light up at them reflecting off the metal and drowning out the detail. Just a tip for your next shots.

Yeah, perhaps next time I'll put them on a non-glass shelf. I'm also struggling with the flash since that room is not so bright anyway, but I'll think of something.
The second pic definitely looks cleanest. I experimented with different angles, zooms, etc. to see what would come out best.
Thanks for the input, Cal. I liked the idea of having the blue/gold "uniform" as the guardians have under the camo cloak. I thought it helps bring the army together in somewhat of a common theme. Hopefully I'll be able to do it with my aspects as well.
And yes... definitely Pathfinders. B)
(They are Alaitoc, after all.)

hahaha...
It's unbelievable how much stuff I have here in need of paint.
I should be able to finish basing the Guardians tonight (but am still one painted heavy weapon away from them being done.)
I am also working on half (5) of my Storm Guardians and all 10 of the Wraithguard.
The dead guys will probably be done first since I need to prime the rest of my storm guard... two of which are conversions.
darthken - February 27, 2008 01:08 PM (GMT)
yeah i just finished my guardians then realised i still have to paint the remaining weapons on the sprue
DarthIbis - February 27, 2008 02:42 PM (GMT)
Man, I haven't even primed the platform. Hopefully, I can get the heavy weapons done pretty quick since they will all be similar.
I just haven't painted in about a week, although I did manage to get the Guardians based like I was saying.
