Have you got any tips, suggestions or goood idea's that you would like to share about the painting/modeling aspect of the hobby. Do you do something that works really well but is not considered the Norm. Don't be shy let everyone know.

BRUSHES: although citidel paints are water based i find that even with a thorough cleaning with water you would still get small blobs of paint on the bristles and eventually these build up and end up making your bushes next to useless for some of the fine work required.
So at the end of each painting session i carefully clean my bushes using methylated spirits. This has been really helpfull in prolonging the life of my brushes.

STRIPPING MODELS: for metal models i use acetone. drop the model in to the acetone, wait a minute of two then scrub off the old paint with a hard bristled tooth brush. you can buy acetone from any hardware store. when finsished make sure you run your models under running water.
Its also removes old dry glue as well.
WARNING acetone melts plastic.

For plastic model i use methylated spirits and a rag to wipe of the paint. it works ok but i rarely strip plastic models cause it as a bit more of a hassle.

Hi, I''l add this for the meantime, but I'll write more as and when I've more time to...

+study the colour wheel when choosing a colour for your army: look at complementry, contrasting, and pick your neutral colours. excellent colour theory link: http://www.brushthralls.com/tutorials/2.html

+when you've decided the main colour for your army, buy as many shades of it as you can afford: it'll help vary the colour palette and enrich the depth of the painting

+conversely if You can't afford many shades just buy the darkest and follow the next tip, its nearly always possible to ligthen a colour but seldom can you just darken it with black!

+Add either bone white for a warmer shade or a blue/ grey white for colder finish when adding highlights to colours. Don't use skull white unless you have to!

+If you can't afford lots of expensive inks just buy chestnut or smokey ink as it can be used for most colours

more to follow...

Greenstuff tips: Try to remove youre fingerpriny=ts from it as much as possible. And don't eat it.

Metalwire helps to stabilize greenstuff, its a pain when you're greenstuffed whip keeps falling down or if that gs leg keeps falling of.

the medicine droppers used to give infants their medicine make great tools to help measure out paints when mixing. the small ones are the best (the ones that hold 1ml of liquid).
1 drop of this colour, 1 drop of that colour and you have nearly a perfect 50 -50 mix.

Also a shaving bush is a great item for dusting off models.
