My Friends armies:
- Tau (shooty and mobile)
Crisis (Plasma Rifle + Missile Pod)
Crisis (2x Plasma Rifles)
10 Fire Warriors (Pulse Rifles)
3 Stealth Suits (Burst Cannons)
- Witch Hunters (only for Close Combat)
1 Priest
10 Sisters of Battle
1 Engine
and X Arco-flagellants
This army is WIP so i'm not sure what exactly He want to take.
- Orks
Just start collect like me.
- Chaos Space Marines
(as above)

Now please Guys show me Eldar version of Combat Patrol army.
I want take (because new models are amazing) :
- 9x Avengers + Exarch (but what weapon configuration i should take?)
- War Walkers x1 (or even 2),
- and...?

Calaith - November 20, 2007 10:47 AM (GMT)
A really good shooty combat patrol list would be the Avengers, the Exarch given an additional catapult and blade storm. Avengers aren't meant to be close combat experts, and though a properly armed Exarch can support an Avatar or some scorpions/banshees/Harlequins in combat, they don't last long on their own. So for maximum damage with the Avengers, take the shooting Exarch with two catapults and blade storm.

The War Walkers are awesome models, and they have some nice rules. Fielding two, one with twin scatter laser and one with twin star cannons, could lay down considerable fire during a combat patrol. It would also likely deal with tanks as at this points cost most won't be above AV 11, and most Monsterous creatures won't be above T6. Plus with this combination you're mixing rate of fire with strength of shots, with a high number of scatter laser shots backed by a handful of AP2 Star Cannon.

As to the final choice, if you want to keep with the shooty theme try Reapers. You won't be able to field a large squad as they're very expensive, but they can lay down a lot of hurt. Alternitively Rangers are a nice option, you can field more of them and they are harder to kill, but aren't as immediately deadly.

If you're wanting a combat element to help you though, defend your Avengers or rush forward to take down the Tau, try Scorpions. They're tough, have tons of S4 attacks, and can infiltrate to get at the enemy quickly. Harlequins are nice too, but far more expensive.

After 6 mounts i build this:
18 Guardians
Shuriken Catapult
with Heavy Weapon Platform
+
Warlock
Rune Armour, Shuriken Pistol and Witchblade
Conceal Power

10 Dire Avengers
Avenger Shuriken Catapult
with Exarch:
Power Weapon and Shimmershield

And my new questions:
- Guardians Heavy Weapon Platform: Starcannon, Bright Lance or another?
- Warlock: Witchblade or Singing Spear?
- Dire Avenger Exarch: take Defend or Bladestorm? (personally i don't want this power for small battles)
- for now (without above questions) my combat patrol army is for 331 and i have 69 points. I think about War Walker but what i should take?

with combat patrol id probably go with an anti infatry weapon so probably a scatter laser or star cannon.

witch blade should be fine at this level.

bladestorm or defend?? not sure it would depend on what army your facing.

a war walker would be ok, tooled up with anti-infantry weaponry.

given me some ideas for my 1st game with eldar (scribbles in note book)

good to see ya back, its been a while.

Scatter laser, I agree, would be the better option to give the Guardians. Four high strength shots in combat patrol will be ideal for helping your guardians deal with tougher units like battle suits. Bright Lance won't be need and only one shot will probably not do too much.

Singing Spear if you can afford the extra 3 points. Adds an additional long range weapon (wounding on 2+) to your guardians, again maximizing their fire power and helping against higher toughness foes.

Blade Storm. Neither of your opponents are particularly close combat oriented, and anything that comes charging at you will hopefully be blown away in your extreme volume of fire power.

War Walker with twin scatter lasers I think would be the best option. A bit fragile, but it can hang back and do a lot of damage from afar disabling tougher foes and light tanks, while your troops sprint forward.

Overall a nice list, I like the high volume of guardians. It'll make them difficult to entirely eradicate, so at least a few will reach your enemies lines.

My only concern is that this list will be outshot by the Tau. I take it your tactic is to charge forward like the dogs of hell are on your heals and crash the Guardians and Avengers in combat, relying on slightly better stats and numbers to crush your opponent? Will against the SoBs (I love that double meaning), your two shooty units will support each other to systematically destroy enemy units one after the other at range?

Cheers, Cal

I think Eldar Missile Launcher is better choice because (if i wrong please tell me):
- versus Crisis (T4) Krak (S8) with only one shot i kill W2 model without save (AP3)
- versus Fire Warriors (T3) Frag (S4) i wound on 3+ models under Blast template without save but with pinning.
- versus Engine have two S8 shots...

Question (maybe stupid but i must be sure): Guardian Scatter Laser Platform is Heavy 4 weapon so i can shoot after normal (no fleet of foot of course) move?

Probably the best army list for me:
10 Dire Avengers
Avenger Shuriken Catapult
with Exarch:
Power Weapon and Shimmershield

18 Guardians
Shuriken Catapult
with Scatter Laser Platform
+
Warlock
Rune Armour, Shuriken Pistol and Singing Spear.
Conceal Power

War Walker
Two Eldar Missile Launchers

Total = 399 points.

darthken - May 7, 2008 06:31 AM (GMT)
yes you can fire the guardian heavy weapon platform after moving.

Calaith - May 8, 2008 12:41 PM (GMT)
and yes, the missile launcher is a perfectly viable option for you war walkers. You've thought it out, and with two chances to hit you should generally hit at least once each turn.

Two more questions for my War Walker:
- About point cost
QUOTE
The War Walker is armed with two weapons chosen from the following list: Eldar missile launcher at +ZZ points; ...
So for Two missile launchers i pay ZZ or ZZx2?
- When i have Two Eldar missile launchers i have Two shots or One with Twin-linked?

darthken - May 10, 2008 01:21 AM (GMT)
you have to pay for both making 1 war walker with missile launcher 70pts.

and you get 2 shots not twin linked.
