I was cleaning out my closet and stumbled upon some old guardian models. This was intresting because I now have about 60 guardian models all told, and I remember using them in the last codex when I first started. I would like to use them again, but dont really know what they would be good at doing. Any opinions would be most welcome!

Now to be honest I havent even given them a thought since the new codex came out, but looking at the awesome price reduction of thier heavy weapon I was thinking about taking 2-3 squads of 20 w/ scatterlaser and warlock with embolden. (In my experiance, I have not used the 5+ save from conceal to great effect because i usually bunk in cover anyways, but guardians always seem to run away at the first sign of danger!)

My question though is would it be better to give them a Bright Lance to tank hunt, or leave them with the scatterlaser?

They would be a very resiliant BL platform and would give any tank a headache trying to silence thier gun, but they would have 19 guys standing around doing nothing but looking pretty and biting bullets.

Alternatively with the scatter laser I could engage with enemy infantry, fireing on the move and trying to manuver to get that wonderful volley of shurican death on a unit.

Both could be used stationary or on the move and well both have 19 guys to look threatning and to die in combat, just they have different targets. Alternatively I could take the warlocks out and just use an avatar! (Checks book) Yep! He just makes them fearless now! Woot!

I use them as 10 men squads with Brightlance and Warlock with Embolden (140) I do not use conceal since they will always start in cover.

The Brightlance gives me some antitank wich allows my other units (Vypers and spiders) to concentrate mass S6 fire on Infantry.

id probably go with the bright lance as well and set them up as tank hunters

plus it can also depend on your opponent. if you were playing me for example. the need for lance weopons is very low seeing how anything higher than S5 can take down my vehicles.

However when you start playing people who have vehicles with AV14 you just can't go past a lance weapon.

I always take a 10 man unit with warlock and bright lance. These guys generally sit back and hold an objectives, while destroying tanks or units like terminators if ther are no tanks.
If you are trying to use mainly guardains for an army, I would suggest this:
Farseer
10 guardians with warlcok, embolden, brightlance
15 guardians with warlock, destructor/conceal, scatter laser
10 guardians with starcannon
Variable amount of Howling Banshees

This is just a core army you could use. The expand the army you could add more aspect warriors and tanks.
