Title: New 40k basing kit
Description: your opinions on it

Hi,
GW are producing a new basing kit for 4ok, and I wondered how many people have used it already, intend to buy it, or even just have something to say about it? Is it worth the money or not, should there be more in it? Have your say here :)

I don't think its worth the money especcially when you could get similar stuff when you go to a cheap hobby store with the difference that it will be 3 times cheaper.

over a decade ago i went down to pallaranda beach for a BBQ and beers. I came home with a bucket of sand which i sifted.
and today im still using the same sand, pebbles and small rocks for all my basing needs.
the only stuff i need to by is green flock and i would never pay GW prices for that when i can get it %70 cheaper elsewhere.

I picked up the 'hero' basing kit before xmas at a non GW store for 50% off. Based on the fact that I'd never pay full proce for it, it was a bargain.

The fine gravel is ok and glues on quite readily. The slate chunks are likewise not too hard to handle. The resin basing bits and etched brass sprue are nice enough (but the larger '40mm' pieces are in fact, larger than the 40mm bases, and will overhang.

All of the resin pieces need a good sanding first (and about a week to air out - mine were still 'tacky'. Not fully cured yet.). I use wet 'n' dry in 2 grit sizes (wet) to keep the dust down.

Flock, sand and other ballast I'll usually get from my local model railway supplier (run by a mate of my brother in law). Woodland scenics or noch, and get more for my buck (GWs stuff is way overpriced for this stuff).

Not knowing how much it'd cost over here, I'm not sure how worth it the price is...however knowing GWs reputation I doubt it'd be worth it.

However one must admit there are some nice bits there, that could easily be used in scenic bases, but also in constructing terrain and other conversions. Maybe as a once off thing, but like Spacefrisian said, you can get similar stuff cheaper at almost any other hobby store.
