Title: Mackay Tourny Nth Qld
Description: Kabal of the venomed fang (revised)

darthken - September 22, 2007 11:01 AM (GMT)
Greetings all, i will be entering the Mackay 40K tournament coming up the 1st weekend in November.
Ive just had a look at the rules and this will be the 1st tournament i have played in that actually will be running the rules as per GW format.
All other tournaments ive played in you have only got points for winning games and nothing else,so im used to playing against really cheesy must win at all costs lists. So this will probably be a bit of an eye opener for me.
Also size is 2000pts which is 500pts more than i usually play.
So all my other projects have just been put on the back burner as I race to paint up another 500pts of DE for the tournament.

I will be setting up basicly like this: on 1 flank i will have a bike squad, wyches, ravager. On the other flank a bike squad, raider squad and ravager.
the sniper sqads will hold the center with another bike sqad and ravager behind them.
b- bikes
s- sniper sqads
rs- raider squad
w- wyches
r - ravagers
wb - warp beast

If im playing a slow moving opponent 1 flank will attack will the other will withdraw behind my sniper sqads in turn 1 then follow up the attacking flank in turn two. the biker squad and ravager that are centrally located will head towards wich ever flank is on the attack. this way if my 1st wave of attack gets bogged down the second wont be far away (gota love a 24" movement rate.) meanwhile my sniper squads will cover the center of the battle field and stop me from being out flanked as any vehicle (except the monilith) is not going to go any where near 4 BS4 36" ranged lance weapons (he he he he)
this is what ill be using against space marines, chaos space marines, or necrons.

Against Tau, IG, Orcs or elder ill be going with the two flank attack, both flanks attacking at the same time with the centrally located bikes & ravager going to the flank i believe will need them.

Against the tyranids Ill have to pray heavily to the dice gods cause il more than likely lose . These guys are just as quick as i am have more attacks than i do and can last longer in battles of attrition
My only tactic will be to target all the synapse creatures on one flank and try to kill them all as quickly as possible. If i can wipe out the synapse creatures on one side of the board i may have a chance

The archon in my list is tooled up WWAAYY more than i normally like due to the fact that I had spare points left over and had nothing left to spend them on.
And no i wont ever use a shadow field on him.

And thanks to Korlian Archon for giving me some new tactics to try ( terrorfex tactics) my tactics had become locked in stone & rather stale, for the last couple of years (hey they have been working but getting boring), as there is a distinct lack of DE players around here to talk tactics with , and a new fresh perspective has certainly opened my eyes to some new sneaky stuff to try.

I will have a camera sometime next week and ill start posting pics of my Kabal for everyone to veiw.

Well good luck. I dont know much about dark eldar so your list looks good to me! (Actually it doesnt look all that different from the other one so it must be good!) Anyways tell us how it went when you get back!

well i had an average weekend of gaming, went like this

vs elder, a solid victory.
highlights - wiping out two squads of swooping hawkes in turn two
for the elder - his banshee's cleaned up one flank by themselves.

vs Imperial Guard (all vehicle), absolutely massacred.
highlights - none
for the IG- destroying my whole attacking flank in the 1st turn.

vs black templars - victorious slaughter
highlight's - assaulting and killing all 6 terminators in 1 turn of combat
for the templars- rolling 12 AS for his character and making them all.

vs vanilla space marines, absolutely massacred.
highlights - none
for the SM - destroying 650 pts of my army in the 1st turn.
in this game i rolled for 24 darklance shots in 6 turns getting 17 ones, 5 two's and 2 three's
and the 2 shot's that did hit failed to penetrate.
I also rolled 8 dice needing a 5 or bettter to penetrate and didn't get one.

vs tyranids - draw
highlights - my archon charging a hive tyrant and killing it in one turn (5wounds)
for the tyranids - having two units assualting in the 1st turn (24") both fleet of foot rolls of 6's.

In both games in which i was massacred i lost 600+ points from shooting in the 1st turn before having a chance to do anything.

Ah the first turn los, i know what youre talking about.

darthken - November 6, 2007 03:37 AM (GMT)
and both tables were also very 'open' with not much cover, which nearly always spells doom for my Kabal.

Its not like my opponents armies that i lost against where over the top or anything, and they did play well.

Euleze - November 6, 2007 10:42 AM (GMT)
How was I not even aware of this tourny??

darthken - November 7, 2007 08:55 AM (GMT)
not enough time spent on this site or talking to Michael at the games exchange would be my first guess Euleze.

I take it you have been out of the gaming scene for a while i think i remember Cal saying you would be busy with eductation.
It wasn't advertised at the games exchange but it was on the web site.

wow thats hardcore, losing a quarter of your army before you even got started! Is that common for a 40k game or was it just bad luck/ deployment etc?

I checked the UK GT results to see how the DE are doing currently in GTs and it looks like there wasn't a single DE player in the top 40! CSM were truely rinsed though!

clicky, then go to download

darthken - November 7, 2007 06:51 PM (GMT)
yeah it was a bi of both really.
Not much terrain to block line of site didn't help at all.

they both basically took out my 3 bike squads 1st turn and a raider or two. There was just not enough cover to hide them.

Euleze - November 7, 2007 09:52 PM (GMT)
Ouch thats really gotta hurt

darthken - November 8, 2007 10:14 AM (GMT)
yes it hurt a lot. also most tourny's are 1500pts and the extra 500 pts needed for this one was a bit harsh.

I just wasn't used to having so many troops on the table. it made it difficult to hid stuff. 2000 pts was a bit much for a 40k tournament i thought.

darthken - November 15, 2007 08:21 AM (GMT)
I have just seen the results from the tourny on line. I came 20/36
if i could have scraped a minor victory in the last game of the day i would have jumped up to 8-10th position

But my DE army was in the top 3 for the "best painted army" choosen by the other player's, so that was a huge boost.

Spacefrisian - November 15, 2007 03:34 PM (GMT)
Lets see where i will get with my yet to be painted Spacewolf army next year. I plan to do a GT next year, and my playtesting went great.
