Title: Urgent Eldar advice!
Description: It's time to settle an old grudge....

Calaith - September 11, 2007 07:57 AM (GMT)

G'day Guys,

This weekend sees the long anticipated third encounter between Meaphet Ran and myself. The two of us have a steadily growing history as interstate rivals, but I am still yet to beat him after two official matches of Necrons vs. Eldar. This will obviously be the third attempt, and I'm hoping to put an end to his winning streak. So without further ado I'll introduce my proposed lists directed towards nothing less than crushing those Tin heads into the ground!

List 1 - 1500pts

HQ

- The Exorcist (Prince Yriel) - 155

Elites

- 5 Howling Banshees, Exarch, Executioner - 102

- 10 Striking Scorpions, Exarch, Power Claw, Stalker, Shadowstrike - 212

Troops

- 6 Pathfinders - 144

- 6 Pathfinders - 144

Fast Attack

- 7 Warp Spiders, Exarch, Power Blades, Additional Shuriken Catapult, Withdraw - 196

Heavy Support

- 4 Dark Reapers, Exarch, Tempest Launcher, Crack Shot - 192

- Falcon, Scatter Laser, Holofields, Spirit Stones, Vectored Engines - 195

- Fire Prism, Holo-fields, Spirit Stones - 160

Tactics
Simply smash him into the ground as quickly as possible. The Pathfinders, Reapers and Fire Prism begin by putting down immense deffencive fire while the Falcon and Scorpions move into possition to assault the Necrons and chew them apart. I am expecting either Wraiths or Scarabs, or both, and they could prove a pain in the behind. However the Warp Spiders will act as a counter to these units and try and catch them before they threaten my Rangers or Scorpions.

I've writen a second list simply because my local GW (where we'll play) prefer us to play 750 point lists, so if their not happy to let us play 1500 points then we can revert to these smaller lists.

List 2: 750pts

HQ

Farseer Ethandel Iyaarl, Fortune, Runes of Witnessing - 95

Elites

10 Stirking Scorpions, Exarch, Scorpions Claw, Shadow Strike - 207

Troops

6 Pathfinders - 144

6 Pathfinders - 144

Heavy Support

Fire Prism, Holo-field, Spirit Stones - 160

Tactics
I'm not expecting any AP3 or power weapon nastyness from my oponents army at such a small points limit, so with Fortune cast on my Striking Scorpions they will become near impossible to kill. The Pathfinders and Fire Prism lay down the law in the first few turns to soften up those warrior units, and possibly dramatically shorten the lives of any scarabs or Wraiths that are lurking about.

Thoughts and comments are very very welcome.
Cheers, Cal

I'am not sure how you want to play this in my oppinion it seems to pick stuff from cc and shooting.

Might wanna try focusing on one or the other (like i tend to have mine on shooting with the Wraith lords for counter)

The plan, in most simple terms, is to move my cc troops forward while my longer ranged units give them cover fire from the enemy and soften them up. Rest assured these units aren't picked randomly, they've all been carefully considered on how they would support one another.

Secondly I have no idea what my opponent is going to field. If I take all cc he could take a score of Destroyers and shoot me to pieces while I try to advance. If I take all shooting units, he could take Wraiths and Scarabs which Reapers and Rangers can be very vulnerable to. This mix is designed to allow my units to protect one another and be prepared for any Necron unit he could throw at me.

My only real concern is if he fields a Monolith...don't think he owns one but I could be in for a very nasty surprise...

ok i run necrons as well as my DE so here is my advice for beating them.

1. if he runs a monilith ignore it. he will more than likely deepstrike it in. and as it is impervious to lance weapons you can end up waisting a lot of shooting on something that is extremely difficult to destroy. and not really that benificial to you.

2.destroyers come in unit size 3-5 so if you can hit them with everything you have you can kill all of them in one shooting phase (hopefully) this will prevent WBB rolls unless he has another unit of them close by

3.remember his army will phase out at 25% so try not to get to worried about non necron troop types (pariahs, scarabs, tomb spyders, moniliths) and instead concentrate on killing the rest.

4. Concentrate fire power and assaults, pick a unit and hit with everything, the necrons resiliance will make it difficult for you units to beat 1 on 1, use your speed and higher Inititive to decide when and where CC will take place.

Yep, you summed my tactics up perfectly. :)

I play Necrons beside my Eldar as well, so I know exactly what to expect. I'm essentially planning to knock down his Destroyers and Heavies first, and then try and rip out his guts by attacking his Warriors with my Banshees and Scorpions. Hopefully this will bring him almost completely to phase out.

I don't think he'll field a Monolith, though it'd be a pain if he does. Ignore it you say? Perhaps, though only because I don't have anything capable of really taking it out exept the Fire Prism. Hopefully if he deepstrikes it, it comes late enough in the game that he is only a few steps from phase out and I can afford to ignore it.

ive run my monolith in 8 games now and it hasn't been destroyed once. it has taken an obscene amount of firepower, which has been great in protecting my "necron" troops. but ive never fired the power matrix once, to busy teleporting stuff.
