Title: Combat patrol vs Space Marines

I tried something that looked interesting, a troops choice of Wraithguard. I upgraded the warlock with enhance and a singing spear. (as well as spiritseer, of course) While it was just the one squad, they fairly walked over the opposition. I got first turn, and walked towards apatch of woods, the only real fezture on the map. A first turn charge from assault marines did fairly nothing. They had the furious assault skill, which meant we struck at the same time. He picked off one 'guard, and I picked up the four regular troops. HE was just about to roll with his power fist when my warlock chimed in, laid a perfect wound on him, just barely making it the whole time.
On my turn, I marched 5" into the cover, and opened up with the 'cannons. Three of his tacticals fell over, and I ended my turn. He whiffed with his plasma pistol and his meltagun, and charged in. They also had the furious assault, and again, picked up the one more 'guard. I laid out 4, and the next turn finished the last three. No contest.
Is this usual for Wraithguard in CP?

Wraith Guard are incredably resilient, and their toughness makes them difficult to take in CC unless you're fighting a really nasty cc oponent like a Daemon Prince, C'tan, Terminators, etc, none of which you'll find in combat patrol. I don't think your oponent will be able to pack too many heavy weapons anyway, making Wraith Guard difficult to deal with at such a small points level.
Good report,
Cal

Good idea with the Wraithguard. I'd never even have considered them for such a small game.

I saw that they could be fielded as troops, did the math, and saw that they could squeeze in under 400. "Why not?" was definately my first thought. I'm glad they did so well...

I tried a few more lists out, I think I'll post them in the lists section, but they all followed the same pattern set by the wraithguard in utter massacre of the OpFor. Either I'm better at playing than I thought, my lists are better than I thought, or my opponent just sucks...

yes wraithguard would be absolutely nasty in a combat patrol game.
watch out if you go up against a DE ravager with 3 disintegrators though. He could sit back 36" and and knock the wraiths to pieces with 3 S7 AP2 templates per turn.
I used to run a ravager like this in my combat patrol list but it got to boring and easy to win so i dropped it.
