Title: Painting Yme-Loc Eldar
Description: a blogging attempt

Chivi'queleste - April 18, 2007 04:56 PM (GMT)
I'm gonna attempt to paint my arse off, at least for one hour a day that is, until I can get a 2250 army ready for play. Below are 2 different 2250 armies, and an ongoing WiP that won't get completed until after I have a full army completed. Wish me luck. I think I'm gonna start with a few fire dragons...

Its been a while since I made a real effort at completing an army (about 2 years) and it seems that I finally have the time to do so (13-17 hour days, 6 a week, does not leave much hobby time). Next up, Eldar.

Good luck...speed of the sword wind, as I want to see the WIP finished! Keep us posted!

Thanks Rhomdruil...

As promised, an update. It's about an hours work trying to figure out how I want them to look, and how to get them that way.

Comments, suggestions, critiques always welcome.

Personally, I'm thinking the green eye lenses are too bright, and I need to take care of those mold lines. I ran out of white paint, so the topknot is not done yet. It will have a metallic collar, similar to the color of the FDs fusion gun. The face on the SG is not done either (still need that white), so I'll have the chance to correct those eye lenses. None of the gems are even started at this point. Basically, the gems will be either emerald or topaz, depending on the setting.

Looks good, nice highlighting on the orange...Orange is tough to make mean looking!

Just to let you guys all know, I've not given up after only one update! :D

The orange on all of the Fire Dragons has been done, and the body armor panels are being picked out in black. That's not as easy as it sounds, especially when painting black over such a bright color. Mistakes cannot happen. I'm finding out just how much flash and mold lines remain after I 'cleaned and prep'd' the models.

I've also been working on the Storm Guardians. Their under-suits have been done, and I'm now picking out the orange on their body armor and sashes. The orange paint I have is kinda transparent before being diluted, so several coats have to be given to make it solid, and I mean several.

These two units will take care of 26 of 104 models in the Gauntlet. I'm thinking of painting the 20 Dire Avengers next, as I may need them for a tourney in a couple of months.

Hopefully, my next update will show you all 3 completed units (less Warlock).

Cool, I'd love to see another WiP thread. It really helps with the motivation to actually complete an army.

I'm still working out the color scheme for the Guardians and Dragons. Take a look at the pics and let me know which you prefer and why. Also, this is my first attempt at gems, and while green, red, and blue are popular, getting something orange is a bit more 'fun'.

LOOKS GREAT! Your shading is really nice on the gray areas especially the antennae things on the back pack...very very nice!

OK! I finally have ONE model ready for inspection. I believe this guardian to be 99% complete, just needing a clear coat and some more critique. I'm not sure just how to do the grenade packs on the back side of the model. I seem to have lost some of the color in the green gem....

((I'm back...))

Damn, you just put us all to shame yet again...

If you can make every model look that sweet, you deserve to be made a god... The gems are superb and utterly flawless. The undersuit is skillfully picked out from crisp white armour plates. And best of all, that base deserves its own masterclass.

Just enough motivation to get me to finish my long suffering Sai-Bre army...

do you have any more pics?

Calaith - October 6, 2007 04:15 AM (GMT)
Been watching this topic for a while though I'm surprised I've never commented. Really nice painting there, the gems are fantastic and the shading is done really well. My only critisism is to take a knife to those mould lines when you're assembling the models. I am extremely prejudice against them and think all models look better without them.

@ Calaith - I hate mold lines, almost as much as I hate spending hours and hours trying to rid miscast models of mold lines. Some got through, though I'll try to get the forthcoming models cleaner. ;)

@ farseer of beil-tarun - I don't have any new pics of the Eldar, as I've been trying to get my Fantasy army fully painted in order to participate in an upcoming tourney. But...

I've been working on Eldar terrain pieces, and these are the current WiP pics for one that seems to match the Widow's Heart...

The towers are made from grave-side planters with beads attached. The central generator is from a broken toy (a lightsaber, I believe). The base is made from casino player's cards, some leftover textured wall paper, and some talos/sand. There is still more to come, though I'm running out of ideas on how to make it happen, without loosing the 'Eldar' feel.

Thanks.

Calaith - October 10, 2007 11:56 AM (GMT)

Impressive. I've always wanted to try Eldar terrain but find it is very hard to come up with practical ideas for terrain that not only looks good, but is also durable. (ie: foam isn't great for skinny towers or warp portals) That is certainly something I haven't seen before.

I recognised the centre tower as a lightsaber immediately. :P Yay for Star Wars.
