Title: Saim-hann

well if you collected Saim-Hann would you play with Bikes, Vipers or Swooping Hawks? i didnt make this a poll because i thought a debate on which one works better was more involving

Actually Swooping Hawks aren't supposed to be used in Saim-Hann armies that much. The Saim-Hann use an army list of 6 Fast Attack Choices instead of 6 Troop Choices, and you only get 3 Troops and 1 Heavy Support Choice. However the Swooping Hawks also now count as Elites, so even though you could still take 3 squads of them, you can't make an army of them.
As to if I were making a Saim-Hann force, I believe that I would probably go a mixture of Bikes and Vypers. I huge hoard of Eldar Jetbikes is probably pretty daunting to look at, but You'd need the Vypers for their heavy weapons. I'd also probably be tempted to use Nadu "FireHeart", or a Farseer on a Jetbike. And of course my usual Banshees in a Wave Serpent to keep with the speed theme, but give me some CC killers.
As far as I am concerned, to make a succesful Saim-Hann army, everything in the army must be able to move 12" a turn.
Cheers, Cal

swoopings hawks are fast attack...
Calaith - April 6, 2006 06:37 AM (GMT)
correct, Swooping Hawks are Fast Attack in a Codex army.
However in the Saim-Hann army list the become Elites, just like in the Beil-Tan list Scorps, Banshees, Spiders, Dragons and Reapers all become troops.

... i see it now its not in a fancy box like the rest of the changes are
Calaith - April 6, 2006 10:37 AM (GMT)
Yeah, plus its a pretty unexpected change really. I was rather surprised when I read it.
Meaphet Ran - April 7, 2006 01:10 AM (GMT)
hmm, well then i guess theres not much more debating to do...
Calaith - April 7, 2006 06:26 AM (GMT)
Well half true...
The question could be instead, would you prefer to use Jet Bikes, Vypers, or Shining Spears (though they could be Elites as well, not quite sure. )
Personaly I'd probably go with the Shining Spears, supported by a andful of Vypers. This way you have great ranged firepower, coupled with perhaps Reapers or Support Weapons, and yet also retain a good CC charge coupled with a Wave Serpent of Banshees. I still wouldn't necasserily advise this list against other CC killer armies such as Khorn or Black Templars though, best used against Tau and Guard I think.

Hmmm....shining spears dont seem to get a mention with the Saim Hann rules, so I would assume that they are fast attack still. That being said, there really isnt much in the way of difference between Wild Rider Kinsmen and Shining Spears, other than +bs, +10 points cost and a laser lance for the SS, and +1a for Wild riders.
So I would say wild riders over Shining Spears, as the difference to me isnt good enough. Plus, the wild riders are basically barbarians, were as the Shining Spears are not only Aspect Warriors (the best of the best, SIR!) but apparently the rarerest of all the Aspect's.
Calaith - April 8, 2006 04:02 AM (GMT)
Of course their the rarest, their so expensive and alot of the time not worth their cost (in both points, and money.)
Seeing what krazy said about the wild riders being barbarian like though, makes me change my mind, as it would be more fluffy to have wild riders than shining spears in a Saim-Hann army.
However it would be interesting to make a Craftworld of Shining spears using the Saim-Hann army list.
Cheers, Cal

hehehe....imagine for a second......Shining Spear Farseer.....(drools on keyboard) Would be interesting to make a Craftworld where the Shining Spears were the standard troops.
OOH OOH, imagine WARP SPIDERS on jetbikes! Warping all over the battlefield
OOH OOH, what about Fire Dragons on jetbikes, that would be sweet......
Ok, i've calmed down now, sorry about all that, and it wasnt a dig at you either Cal, just some wierd ideas.
