Scenario: the eldar have discovered an abandoned warp gate and are moving into secure it, the necrons have other ideas...
Terrain: there was a large section of fortifications surrounding the warpgate with a hall and some barricades in th outlying lands.
Set up: both sides deployed their forces behind barricades and out of LOS, Cal's scorpions infiltrated ahead near the fortifications He won the roll for first turn and (thankfully) took the first turn but .
Turn 1:
Farseer Ethandel Iyaarl walked behind the mighty form of the Avatar, who marched onwards towards the opened warp portal. Here, he could feel the reality around him changing and distorting as the warp space leaked into the real world via the treacherous gap. To another creature the world around them might have seemed perfectly normal, but Ethandel knew he didn't have enough time.
He felt a flash of pain in his mind, the fear of his loyal Scorpions registering in their psychic connection. He saw flashes of green shooting from the shadows with his minds eye, and he knew that his presence here had not gone undetected. Reaching out to his Reapers, he was frustrated to learn that they could see nothing, the battlements blocking their view of a possible enemy.
The Farseer sent a message to the Warp Spiders to advance through the ruins and search for an possible enemy. He did not know what was out there, but he had his suspicions. Fears, in fact, for what laid in wait for him.
Then, the worst pain struck the Farseer as the Avatar itself was struck by a blast from enemy fire. He watched the hardened flesh of the Avatar's arm being blasted away, and felt the rage and pain of Khaine wash over him. His senses for battle were awakened, his lust for war rising with Khaine. These intruders to the Farseers mission regret their actions!
the warpgate sat below Unit X13A2, his forces had come to this forsaken world to ambush and destroy the Eldar forces, he would let none live. A red symbol appeared in his vision, across from his destroyers. he activated his optic link, looking through the eyes of his loyal servants. Striking Scorpions. their movements were stealthy but futile, they would soon feel his wrath. without a thought he sent his warriors around towards the edges of the warp gates fortifications and he watched as the destroyers darted out from behind their cover, lances of jade-green energy scything through the scorpions, half their number were lost and the remainder fled. towards the center Unit X13A2's Heavy destroyers lay in wait their advanced targeting relays watching the warpgate carefully, and for good reason too. entering the clearing was the embodiment of the Eldars might. An Avatar. the heavy destroyers fired carefully a shot hit and th avatar roared in defiance as the shot dissipated. a second shot slammed into the Avatar disintegrating part of its arm, the beasts powerful healing, working already repairing the damage, as it clotted an wounds and began hardening the area where it had just been hit.
Turn 2:
Ethandel knew, almost before they did, when the Warp Spiders appeared in front of the shadowed forms of the Necrons. There was the ever rising rage of Khaine filling the Seer's chest like a hot flame, and it was felt by all his warriors. The Scorpions regrouped, coming together in the anger of Khaine, and turned on their heels to head back the way they had come. The Avatar moved into the ruins, into the very place of the warp rift, and stood before the enemy. The Dire Avengers leaped through the ruins after their leader, out of range and site of any enemy.
The Reapers, spotting the aggressors of the Scorpions, let their weaponry cry out in vengeance and fall upon the enemy like death itself. Only a single Necron Destroyer was ruined as a result, the possibility of its rise a looming threat.
The Warp Spiders Let their Death Spinners loose amongst the enemy. 3 Necrons fell to their fate, the rest charged by the Warp Spiders. The Exarch brandished his power blades and felled 1 opponents, his unit taking no casualties in return. But they did not flee, not yet. The opportunity retreat and retaliate would come soon enough.
Unit X13A2 watched the destroyer disappear in a bright green light its body to grievously wounded for immediate repairs. Unit X13A2 turned his head slowly as his sensors picked up the sound of combat. he saw one of his squads caught in melee with his foe, he scanned his Warriors bringing up the unit data and saw several blinking red lights. one red light faded to black its form sheathed almost in half by the Exarchs Power Blades, the 2 others turnt green, as the warriors roe to their feet.
He sped towards the melee, as his wraith passed behind the combat phasing through the fortifications ready to ambush the eldar. Keen to destroy the Avatar the Heavy Destroyers and Destroyers combined fire and unleashed incessant death upon the Daemon, its mighty form disappearing in a maelstrom of green death. (2 wounds from heavy, 4 from normal.) Unit X13A2 swooped into combat swinging his Staff in a great arc, but the devious eldar easily dodged his blows. He watched as the Warp spiders dragged another of his necrons down and then disappeared without sustaining a casualty.
The wraith Phased through the fortifications and sliced into the nearby Avengers. disemboweling and causing as much pain as possible on the unfortunate souls. 3 Avengers fell before the Exarch too was ensnared by the tail of a wraith and torn limb for limb by its emotionless foe.
Turn 3
Fear swept through Ethandel when the Avatar fell, its body collapsing under the impact of the Necron weaponry and falling to pieces. The Spirit of the Avatar retreated back towards its shrine on the Craftworld, its burning fury no longer with the Eldar. The scorpions regained their lust for battle, and had been slinking into a corner of the ruins, hoping to snag the enemy they came too close. The Reapers on the other hand had lost site of any targets, which was a distress to the Farseer. Victory was quickly running through Ethandel's fingers like fine sand, and he was desperate to catch it with his other hand.
The Spiders immediately jumped bacvk into action as the thoughts of the Farseer flashed through their mind, and they knew what they had to do. They charged the Necron warriors once more, their death spinners spitting out the razor strands and cutting down 'X' Necrons (Or: out the razor strands, but failing to destroy any Necrons.) They then charged into combat with a ferocity, fighting like daemons in an attempt to destroy their enemy. 'X' Necrons fell to their fierceness, while 'X' spiders were taken down in return.
The warrior returned to his feet and again strode towards the eldar only to be smote by the Exarch, the remainder of the eldar weapons bounced harmlessly off the necrons whilst the lord swung at the nearest Spider, damaging his jump pack sending him screaming into the warp. once again the spider's fell back leaving e necrons to regroup and wait their attack. his sensors flared as he noticed the spiders had moved towards his other warriors. meanwhile the heavy destroyers unleashed at the Scorpions cutting 2 more down, their brave Exarch, remaining to avenge his fallen.and the destroyers fired at the 2 visible avengers their armour, flesh and bones gone in just a few moments, the survivors abandoning their Farseer to his fate as they fled past him. Ethandel looked up at the two wraith before him, for what must of felt like an eternity he stared at them, cursing them with every thought that passed through his head he stood unmoving, the wraith were almost mocking him, and Ethandel knew why, he looked down the third wraiths claws were emerging from his chest, he was lifted of his feet and the wraith tore him apart, leaving nothing but a pulp behind. the wraith looked up from their game and chased after the falling back Avengers, catching them in an instant.
Turn 4
"Those who love life, fear the Reaper," The Exarch instructed his squad, taking note of the warriors now visible through the ruins. "But those who are lifeless fear nothing, and that is their greatest flaw."
The Reapers knew exactly where to aim, their Launchers at the ready and roaring in a bloody rage. Scores of the small missiles rocketed through the air and impacted upon the exposed warriors, shattering their bodies. When the dust cleared nothing could be seen but their scattered remains and several craters. The Warp Spiders were now once again in combat with the Necron warriors, already killing 'X' of their number from shooting. The battle between the Eldar and the Necrons was hard fought, neither side willing to give up ground. The Exarch was an inspiring site however, his power blades cleaving through his target with little effort.
Unit X13A2 watched one of his Warriors explode as a giant series of explosions rocked the area. and another three were smashed to pieces, another fell to the Spiders charge. He watched two of them stand as the lord and the other squad of warriors joined the fray. the Wraith eager to spill blood, carved the remaining two Avengers to pieces but lost one of their number in the fray. the two survivors moved across and charged into the Spiders rear flank in the ensuing massacre only the eldar exarch survived he fled (after i humorously watch Cal try to add up 3D6 (he only went 8")) the heavy destroyers meanwhile obliterated the Scorpion Exarch.
End Phase
Previously- Ethandel looked up at the two wraiths before him, cursing them with words more powerful than either would ever know. Their immobile skulls were twisted in expressions of cold mocking smiles, but it was the Seer who would have the last grim laugh. He would not see the destruction of his enemy, he knew that already, he knew it the moment he had seen the Wraiths, and the premonition of the third behind him passed through his mind. But he knew his death was imminent, and he had accepted that. There was only one thing left to do now.
Currently- "This Battle is over," The Reaper exarch said. "Turn away my brothers and be glad, for our mission is done. The warp rift has been calmed."
The other reapers could feel it also, and the knew that they were the only ones left. The Necrons had slaughtered the Eldar number, but not for nothing. The warp was a powerful entity in itself, and one that demanded sacrifice. It had its sacrifice now, and the rift was calm. Ethandel had completed his mission, sacrificing himself to the jaws of the beast.
Result:
Victorious slaughter to the Necrons, the Eldar Withdrawing.
not a surprising result you had none of the things which are good vs necrons
eg Wraithlords
can be hurt on a 6 by gauss weapons so be careful but can cream monoliths and once in cc with warriors they cant be hurt and can insta kill even lords
mindwar, nasty vs those pesky necron lords with orbs
Wraithguard ! tough as nails and cut through warriors etc with ease and watch the necron player cry when they fire on his normally rock hard monolith
banshees again no wwb roll and no armour save in cc unless clsoe to the orb
necrons fear template ap3 high str weapons these can cream a lot and concentrate fire power to put a unit down or kill the lord with the orb
Yeah, the list was a shocker. If any of my really good units had made it into combat, ie: The Avatar or Scorpions, I might have caused some damage. Had I been a little luckier with my Warp Spiders and caused a few more wounds I might have gotten any victory points. Had I had Rangers I would have been able to pick off his Heavies and his Destroyers and Wraiths with less risk of getting shot apart myself because of cover. And had I not placed my Reapers in the worst possible place imaginable they might have been some actual help to me.
I am happy to admit I totally goofed this one up, and Meaphet is a nasty opponent. (I mean hard to beat, not unsportsmanlike. :))
Next time I will be taking Fortune, Rangers, and some Banshees in a Serpent.
Cal
well im up for a rematch the weekend after the easter weekend, it'll be my last weekend in Melbourne, and if we play at mind games you can proxy all you want =P'
i remember the first time you fielded a wraithlord against me, it moved a total of 6" before falling to its knees... along with your wave serpent and a few random (and insignificant) eldar
