G'day guys,
This was a scenerio I'd had in my head for a while, and would make a cool cinematic battle between the Eldar and whoever if a film was ever made. I played it out today myself against my brother using Necrons, and sadly the Eldar lost, but it was still quite fun.
You can play this mission as detailed below, or you could use this in a 'Rules for Engagement', and in that case the objective is for the Avatar to survive, and for you to hold one enemy objective marker.
March of the Avatar
Eldar Overview
The Avatar of Kaela Mensha Khaine has headed the sacrifice of the young king, and roared to life on the Craftworld in an hour of dire need. Now the Avatar marches to war along side the warriors of the Eldar, and with Khaine's pressence the Eldar can not fail against countless odds. But the Avatar must not fall, or woe for our race.
Enemy Overview
The Eldar have sumoned the monstrosity we know only as the Avatar of Khaine. This monsterous creature seems to fill the Eldar with a lust for battle and unbreakable determination to prevail. We must destroy the Avatar if we are to break their moral, and prevail over the alien menace!
Special Rules
The following Special Rules are in play; Infiltrators, Deep Strike, Victory Points, and 'The Avatar of Khaine'.
Avatar of Khaine - The Eldar force must obviously field an Avatar. However to make this mission even more cinematic, three extra rules have been introduced. Firstly, the Avatar is worth triple its points cost if destroyed by the enemy. Secondly, any Eldar unit within 12" of the Avatar is fearless as per normal, but any friendly Eldar unit in line of site of the Avatar but any distance from it counts as having the Avatar's unmodified leadership for any moral or Ld tests they may be required to make. Finally, if the Avatar falls, all Eldar models within 12" must take a Ld test at -1 Ld, and all other modifiers are also in effect as per normal.
Set Up
- After the table is tset up with suitable amounts of terrain, players roll off for Table quarters to deploy in their chosen quarters in the same fashion as if a cleanse mission were in play.
- There are no victory points scored for table quarters. The set up is used merely to get the Avatar in combat as early as possible.
- Players roll for first turn, unless the 'Main Mission' being played suggests otherwise.
Mission Objective
- The Avatar is worth x3 its usual points cost if killed by the enemy, thus the advantage of killing the Avatar. However it is still obviously possible for the Eldar player to win even if the Avatar falls. It is favourable to keep it alive however for obvious reasons.
- If Rules for Engagement are being used, than the Eldar's first objective is to capture one enemy objective marker, and their secondry objective is to keep the Avatar alive.
Reserves
- There are none apart from deep strikers.
Game Length
- 6 Turns
And that's it! Thoughts? Questions? Comments? If anyone tries this, tell me how it goes.
