the idea was to encourage a younger player to use terrian so i let him set up any terrian he liked
he postioned an impassible small river about 8" in front of his army crossed by a single bridge behind which he had a low wall as cover
scattered hills and cliffs were spread across the table his whole army had light cover
He won first turn but the basi missed my wraithlord and wraithguard
i infillrated my pathfinders to a low hill cover oppssite his baslisk to get a nice cover save, my farseer walked behind my wraithlords
to cut a long story short he hurled everything at the WL's reducing one to 1 w and another to 2, turn 1 my pathfinders stunned the basilisk (8 hits each with 2D6 armour pen , got to love it !) , turn 2 I took out its big gun and in the final stages of the fight my Fseer spun it side on with E Storm and immobalised it
his sentinel charged a wraithlord and died instantly lol!
his grde squad crossed the bridge but were weared down by storm and mind war
I only lost 4 pathfinders in the game
the Wg only got into range in final 2 turns and killed 4 guardsmen
the WL's killed off the sentinel , various troops and the autocannons but on the final turn got near enough to sue their flamers on his dug in lines the carnage was terriable , coupled with a E storm and mind war killing his general in the last turn he lost 30 men ! (close order drill proved fatal and the cover he used crammed his troops in tight)
the pathfinders proved better at taking out the basi than hurting the inf in cover though they did pinn a unit at one point and did draw a lot of his fire
the guard player had a strong defensive postion but in the end this crippled his ability to manovure like many guard players he relied on stand and shoot
the WL proved nicely resilent , though the BL failed to do anything all game !
Good work slaying the mon-keigh with minimal losses.
Or should I say, congratulations on crushing a younger, inexperienced player who made a big error in standing still...
Still, it shows the usefulness of pathfinders.
to be fair he was guard in a postion with light cover for the whole of his force and an uncrossbale river infron preventing all but jump pack troops assualting i would also have stood mainly still.
pathfinders are great the +2 to cover makes light cover really useful and they soak up a lot of fire , long range sniper rifles inflitrating vs enemy artillery side armour is a great tactic
