Title: Green Stuff
Description: help!

Calaith - January 13, 2007 09:21 AM (GMT)

ok, my brother and I bought some green stuff today. I am a first time user, so this will be interesting, but I've been practicing with blue tac which I was told was a suitable enough stand in to practice with.

Neither of us plan to do anything extensive. I just want to mould some joints to make them look smoother on an up coming conversion. My brother wants to make little marks of nurgle and worms and what not to make his Plague Marines look Plague marinish.

Anyway, I really need to know how to store it. We don't want it to melt in heat, so we thought of the fridge. But then I thought it might go hard so I took it out before long. So where should I store it?

I don't have a themomiter, so please don't tell me a degrees celcius it can be sored at unless you have an example of where. I do have a draw at the bottom of my desk where I keep all my paints. It's relatively cool in there, would that be suitable?

I store mine in the freezer. Best way to store the stuff is to seprate the two halves (the blue and green), clean up the joining edge so that there is none of the other colour left on it, and then place it in the freezer (in a bag or plastic container).

Green stuff, or any epoxy resin, has a shelf life, and cures when both the resin and the hardener are combined and exposed to air. By seperating the colours and placing them in the freezer, this will make it last for a very long time (pretty much as long as you want!). To use, simlply take it out of the freezer, hold it in your hand for a shortwhile (around half a minute should do) and then cut a small slither of each. Then place it back in the freezer.

:)

P.S, make sure your sculpting tool/s are wet when you are using the green stuff, as this $hit is very sticky, and it can get downright annoying trying to keep it on the mini, and not on the tool sometimes!

thanks KB,

mine spent the night in the fridge still in its blister and a plastic bag. I'll move it into the freezer today.

And make sure you get some tool of sorts. Most people you meet won't have a specific "GW Green Stuff Tool", but some thing-a-ma-bobs they found in their house that have different sized tips and flat edges that work exceptionally well on small details.

Be patient, it took me awhile to get the basics of greenstuff down (and I would not call myself proficient, but I can fix problems with models, and have ventured into some basic small details). Start small, and build stuff up in layers. It is like painting, the more you do it, the better you get.

cheers.

I'm planning to use it as a gap filler mostly on an up coming conversion idea. I'm making a Daemonhost, and will use the green stuff simply to make all the bits and pieces of the conversion look like the one thing, and no like a bunch of stuff glued together.

My brother is using it for his Nurgle. simply rolling three little balls and placing them together on his models to make them look more nurglish. Nothing extrodinary (although I did stumble upon your Nurgle Rhino last night KB on the CSG, and I am fighting off the urge to try something like that on my Brothers Predator.)

If you wnat advice from the real pros at this stuff, go to Work in Progress (link below).

On this site there are a lot of post already witha dvce ont eh stuff, but all you need to do is ask. Also, I strongly advise you spend some time rumaging around this site because not only are there some really awsome conversions, but also there are some really inspirational and simple works that are easily within the grasp of us simpler gamers :D

:) Had a lot of fun with that, but's it's still a WIP painting wise. I'll post a pic up soon. Also played around with GS and sculpted a blight nade for my Asp. champ, converting my possesed (raptor conversions) and a scrathbuilt GUO, although that is gonna take a longggggggg time.
