I heard very briefly of this from Liechtenstein. Aparently it is supposed to be encouraging players to try and have larger games of 2,000 to 5,000 and beyond points. Try and have really cool scenerios and epic battles.
It sounds like a cool idea, but to tell truth it sounds like a money making scheme by GW to get people to buy the book, then buy the uber expensive heavy tanks and monstrosities.
Don't get me wrong, I'd like to try it, but it's unlikely. any amount of money says it'll cost a mint.
For the Eldar I think they'll bring out one of those Forge World heavy tanks, like the Scorpion and various others. The revenant titan is a nice thought, but for some reason I doubt it.
I'm really interested to see if they will give the Necrons anything, as this is one of the most neglected armies when it comes to new stuff. It'd be cool if they got new C'tan rules to make them as strong as titans! :D

a scorpion has been mentioned for eldar
it would be a codex sized book and a lot of clubs are fighting mega battles
a plastic bane blade would be about £50-£60

so that is roughly $100 to $120 Aus? I'm not entirely sure if I'm correct, it could be more actually. But that is expensive for only one tank. Though my apologies, I will not turn this into a 'lets slam GW' thread.
I'll actually be pleased to step into having larger games. The past year I haven't played a game higher than 1,000pts because of the small size of my Necron army. Now that I'm playing Eldar more often again I might try larger games.
I think another reason GW are encouraging people to play larger games, is that recently people have only been playing small games. Small armies of 750 to 1000pts are easy to collect, fast to paint, and quick to get onto the battle field. They want to see more gamers taking a longer amount of time to collect real monster armies and start playing massive games again.

one super heavy normally costs about 800pts so it worth a lot of points on the field so actually good value although baneblades die pretty quick :D to lances and wraithlords and wraithguard

I know that would be about $96-116 US dollars, not sure how the AUS dollar compares.

This sounds very possible, but it really is a kick in the stomach to me. 750-1000 points takes a long time for me to paint, and it is usually the better part of a year to two years before I have 2000 points...
Anyways, this is a cool idea, but I believe it will turn into another excuse for people to have tons of unpainted models. I don't know if you guys in Australia heard about this, but back in September, the Chicago Illinois Battle Bunker held an "Operation Citadel" to break the Manchester store's record of most tanks in a battle. It was a cool event to attend, but it was ridiculous how many guys just showed up with what looked like their entire attic worth of miniatures, with maybe 10 tanks primed black, 5 more painted Dark Angels green, and the rest straight plastic and resin. When armies get towards the 5000 point range, many people feel they are excused from painting the whole force (and maybe they are, they have put a large amount of money into it, and a considerable amount of time in assembly), but you rarely ever see these large armies even basecoated...

maybe but in the uk big armies are becommign more common and fully painted
we also had the tank record attempt and nearly all were painted in fact GW rules in many parts of the UK are if it isnt painted u cant use it
at my local club we have many veterans who have big armies
one has an amzing hravily converted 7500pt dark eldar army
I have 8,000 pts of grey knights and inquistion (5500 pts grey knights)
1500-2000pt games are the norm in the UK , smaller games are actually rarer and less popular such as kill team and 40k in 40mins
hell last week we had a star wars game which had 5 players with 500pts each which is a lot of star wars!

At 50-60 pounds, and an exchange rate that sits approximately around 2.5, in Australia that Baneblade should theoretically cost between $125-150. Personally I think they'll make it 60P/$150AUS, because its a nice round price, and I think the furtherest they'll be able to stretch the cost before peoplestart thinking: "well if I spend this much, I may as well buy the real (Forge World) thing".
I have no doubt in my mind that the GW super heavies are going to look very bland and plain. Has anyone seen the old Armourclast Baneblades? I think they'll look something like that. When you look at them they are rather dull compared to the Forge World variants. They are very flat, and don't look that impressive.
Due to this, I don't think I'll end up getting a super heavy, and unless they're any good (model wise), I might look into a forge world one in a coupel of years (ie when I have a sustaining job).
Personally, I think this is jsut an excuse by GW for larger armies to be encouraged so people buy more. Not only will it cost more to buy larger armies, but also many people who buy GW scenery are going to be required to purchase additional scenery and accessories for these larger games.
When it comes to larget games, I'm all for it, but I don't intend on expanding my armies too far over 3000 points. This is because in reality, most of the time larger games will be impracticle due to the fact that half the time when I ahve battles, they're always pressed for time, even in smaller games.
That reminds me Cal, sometime we need to get around to joining the Imperial armies and the Eldar armies at our disposal and have that massive game (around 6000 points I think it will equate to.....
(Liechtenstein, can you try to keep personal arrangements and discussions off the forum? You've done it a few times now, and I don't think the whole board needs to know what we are going to be doing. It is also totaly off topic realisticaly. - Cal)
Hardrainfalling - January 14, 2007 12:10 AM (GMT)
actaully the recent plastic piranhas were exact copies of forge world resin ones and with the new tech i expect GW super heavies will be exactly the same as FW ones
but i do agree its rare to have time for a really big game
Inquisitor Liechtenstein - January 14, 2007 12:23 AM (GMT)
Also, I think that most people will get caught up int he idea of having these massive tanks, most people will get them, and then they'll use them in very small games where they fast become beardy and overkill, or will use them to begin with, and once they get shot down easily without doing anything once or twice will perminantly be shelved for more conventional models.
Hardrainfalling - January 14, 2007 12:46 PM (GMT)
thats also possible but then the rules will not allow them in smaller games and around 2000pts + they arent that bad or good just different
The Banished Ranger - January 15, 2007 09:03 PM (GMT)
Wonder what the necrons will have?
There is only the pylon on forgeworld. It looks cool though.
But this will encourage players to make and model those huge projects like making a titan or one of those ork thinks.

If it's a money making scheme from GW, they've already won me over! I'd love to get a Revenant or a Cobra and have a huge battle with a massive Eldar host...
Gaming club members could raise a bit of money and collect large armies for their respective clubs so mega-battles would be more common!
Hardrainfalling - January 15, 2007 09:46 PM (GMT)
yes i feel that is likely i am building a revenant titan as people on this forum know work has stalled while i finish wraithlords but not too far off a plastic revenant would be to die for but a cobra or scorpion more likely
Inquisitor Liechtenstein - January 15, 2007 10:03 PM (GMT)
I hvae no doubt in my mind that it would be a Scorpion if an Eldar super heavy was released. However I'd be more inclined to buy a Revenant if one was released....
