Title: Mechanised 1500 Pts.

Gruntlover - January 9, 2007 03:12 PM (GMT)
Hi,

This is a new armylist I'm beating about with and wanted the learned opinion of The Craftworld to cast their eyes over it.

Short version: I've made a mechanised list please critque

This list came about after playing DoW: Dark Crusade. After playing with the Eldar it became apparent that the best troops to use were the ones that could either overwhelm opponents in seconds or those that could not be shot/assaulted back. For example, Banshees are very rarely used unless you plan to 'rush' someone early in the game. It is better to use Rangers as they can cause moderate damage while being cloaked. This is why Warp Spiders are so popular, they have a great gun and can jump away if it looks like they might get overwhelmed (saying that the models suck so they aren't in the list).

It got me thinking why do Eldar not follow the philosophy of the Tau? Hitting hard and if they can't eliminate an enemy by mobility, firepower and technology they redeploy.

So here is a mechanised army which I think fights like a skilled, mobile and tragically outnumbered force would.

I know it isn't great tactically but its following a theme.

HQ
Farseer w/ Doom, Storm, Stones

This guy is in every army I ever write. I've used this combination of powers since the new 'dex and I wouldn't take anything else. He joins the Dire Avengers.

Elites
6x Striking Scorpions w/ Exarch, Claw, Shadowstrike, Stalker

Another regular unit, these are the Predator wannabees that creep up behind any foolish Snipers and with the Claw they have a chance of damaging a Lictor in a poor mans version of Alien Vs Predator.

6x Fire Dragons
IN: Falcon

6x Fire Dragons
IN: Waveserpent w/ T-L Starcannons, Spirit Stones

These guys sum up eldar technology, they are mobile and can kill anything from a dignified distance. The Waveserpent doesn't have Vectored Engines as I couldn't fit them in.

Troops
10x Dire Avengers w/ Exarch, 2nd Avenger Catapult, Bladestorm or Defend
IN: Waveserpent w/ T-L Shuriken Cannons, Spirit Stones

11x Guardians w/ Warlock, Destructor, Scatter Laser
IN: Waveserpent w/ T-L Shuriken Cannons, Spirit Stones

Ideally The second unit should be DAs as well but I've painted the Support Weapon and I'm really proud of the lightening effect on it. When 12" away they do as much damage as the DAs. I've swapped Embolden for Destructor to give them more options when up close. I've tried to keep the Waveserpents as cheap as possible.

Fast Attack
Vyper w/ 2x Shuriken Cannons or Scatter Laser

They look cool. I can't decide on the arnaments, the Shuricannons would give me more shots but I would have to get within small arms range.

Heavy Support
Falcon w/ Scatter Laser, Holofield, Spirit Stones
Fire Prism w/ Holofield, Spirit Stones

Basic Falcon and Fire Prism.

Going with the theme means no CC troops and no Spiders because they look stupid.

Thanks in advance,

GL.

A good spread but i would give the Warlock enhance or conceal my self much more effective, destrcutor is a one shot weapon often
personally i like at least one bright lance incase of leman russ or landraiders but you do have several units of fire dragons for torching tanks but a good armoured player will take down or stun your transports and then shoot the dragons at range

@ Hardrainfalling,
Thanks for the reply. I always find it difficult fitting bright lances in as they are so darn expensive.

After talking to another player I altered the list, is this any better?

If you're after long range anti-tank weaponry, why not give the vyper's either bright lances (preferably) or Eldar Missile Launchers. If you do this, don't upgrade the shuriken catapults to cannons, as these weapons are too short range, and your vypers shouldn't be within 24 inches of your opponent at any time if possible so that small arms fire against them is minimised.

Vyper w/ EML

Heavy
Falcon w/ Scatter, Holofield, Stones
Fire Prism w/ Holofield, Stones
Fire Prism w/ Holofield, Stones

Just a few changes, I wasn't happy with the Vypers having to get so close to fire so by swapping the Starcannon from the Falcon to a Scatter. I've upgraded both of them. 48" should provide some protection. Bright lances are no doubt deadly but 30 points for a BS 3 Heavy 1 weapon  . I'll rely on the Prisms and Dragons to sort out any Landraiders.

I saw a Tau army today (haven't seen them since the new codex), and they scare the hell out of me! Markerlights are awesome. They turn short arsed, blue, hooved do gooders into shooting gods!

Yeah actually, on that note BEWARE THE MARKERLIGHTS!!!!!

These pieces of wargear can be the difference between a few minor casualties and massive swarthes of your armies lying dead back in you minature case!
