Title: 1k/1.5k
Description: Eldar newbie ;)

Uniforce - January 6, 2007 12:44 PM (GMT)
well.... i've finally "finished" my necrons (if you can ever say an army is truly finished), and kind of abandoned my tyranids at 1250.... so for my next attempt, it'll be Eldar (i was tossing up between them and necrons to start with anyway)

*Uni appologises for the solid walls of text.... its kind of a trademark tho ;)*

so, comming straight from necrons, my eyes look straight to those annoying S values.... ouch :( then i seen the answer: a troop choice as durable as my necrons and a fast attack choice that should (at least from what i can see) mimic what my fast attack does now. but i'm not sure if it would work....

starting off with a 1K list:
HQ:
Baharroth - 200
Autarch - 70 (120)
-Swooping Hawk Wings
-Mandiblasters
-Power Weapon
-Fusion Gun

Troops:
10 x Wraithguard - 350 (381)
-Spiritseer

3 x Jetbikes - 66 (96)
-Shuriken Cannon

Fast Attack:
8 x Swooping Hawks - 168 (190)
-Exarch
--Power Weapon

surprise, surprise at my tactics here..... the wraithguard form the core of the army, and will take the brunt of the punishment, slowly advancing towards... whatever (they're really only there for a huge fire magnet, and to take out those big nasties like c'tan or 'fexes) while the Jetbikes harass any targets that get too close. the Swooping hawks are the real killers of this list, and where most of my disruptionm comes from.... starting on the flanks, they can advance to harass the enemy (with both HQ's they should be able to deal out quite a bit of pain to most units) and then once the enemy moves to engage, they fly back to my main force (in much the same way i sometimes use wraiths/monolith - only with the added benifit of the S4 blast) the autarch is there to ensure they don't stay in the heavens too long, as well as to add his CC powers to the unit. The hawks also double as tank killers (haywire grenades and the autarch's fusion gun)

the main concern i have is weather the wraithguard will be able to survive the punishment of basically 1000 points of whatever the enemy is for two whole turns. or if they will be turned to a pile of bones before they return their points? and then theres the problem that i'm not sure if those swooping hawks will be able to kill enough to make up for the rest of the army....

Expanding on this list....
1.5K (which i'm more likely to play once its complete)
HQ:
Baharroth - 200
Autarch - 70 (120)
-Swooping Hawk Wings
-Mandiblasters
-Power Weapon
-Fusion Gun

Fast Attack:
10 x Swooping Hawks - 210 (232)
-Exarch
--Power Weapon

Heavy Support:
3 x War Walkers - 90 (180)
-Scatter Laser
-Scatter Laser

Wraith Lord - 90 (140)
-Twin Flamer
-Wraith Sword
-Bright Lance

Wraith Lord - 90 (140)
-Twin Flamer
-Wraith Sword
-Bright Lance

Troops:
10 x Wraithguard - 350 (381)
-Spiritseer

3 x Jetbikes - 66 (96)
-Shuriken Cannon

Basically, reinforcing the hawks to max, adding a war walker squad and two wraith lords, the similar tactics apply here too, except now i've got a hell of a lot more support fire (6 scatter lasers and two bright lances) the war walkers stay at the rear, providing cover fire for the wraiths, while the guard and lords head straight for the enemy, bright lances picking off targets of oppurtunity.

so there it is... comming from a wraithwing-styled necron force, i'm quite used to using a "fragile-hammer" and anvil tactic, and i'll probably try to use that style of play, but what do you think?

Personally, I don't overly like the idea of making your entire army around supporting a unit of Swooping Hawks. Sure, they can pack a fair bit of puch, but they just arn't tough enough to stand too much punishment.

Hi,

When I first read this list I thought it was pretty pants. BUT on reflection I like it. I would look at these areas though;

500 pts to basically get a strength 4 and strength 3 character into combat  .
I like the idea but not for CC purposes. Instead I would drop some Hawks and use their 2 pie-plates and Haywire/Intercept abilities instead. Once anything dangerous has been shot. Baharroth can mop up any supporting units. Keep the Autarch if you want the Reserves thing but I don't think he is necessary.

Classic

Lances are nice, I assume they are in the centre with the 'guard.

I would really consider Conceal for AP3 weapons.

QUOTE

Don't see the point of this unit. With that lot marching up the centre they are hardly going to be a distraction.

Wow that is such a small army! I would drop the Autarch for a FortuneSeer . Have him walk behind the 'guard for protection.
I don't know whether the army would work in practice. Your army sets the Swooping Hawks up to do amazing things, I just don't know whether they would deliver.

Good Luck,

GL.
