Title: Proposal/question/(something Along Those Lines...)
Inquisitor Liechtenstein - January 6, 2007 10:36 AM (GMT)
Good evening all.
I have a question that I would like your opinion on:
- I have just over 3000 points of Eldar, and I repainting the entire lot in the next couple of months. I am also going to make some fluff behind them. One possibility that I could do is split my army into two to represent two craftworlds. One of which is a rather non-militaristic craftworld which has been thrust into a dire situation where they are forced to take up arms. This force would be comprised of a farseer and a reasonable bodyguard of warlocks, an Avatar (they awoke it in their time of need)and a tonne of Guardians, a wraithlord and some other support elements. The other force would represent either the warrior elite of a destroyed craftworld what have come to take up residence on the craftworld of the first force, or the elite warriors of an Eldar fleet which for whatever reason are on the craftworld (most likely coming to its aid). Thsi force would be lead by a farseer and my Autarch (who would be a Fleet Prince if I go with the later idea). This force would be basically entirely made up of aspect warriors and a few vehicles.
If I split my army, I can represent each of the forces with an army of around 1500 points each, with each being a viable force.
I was considering this for two reasons. Firstly, its a nice litle fluffy piece of background. Secondly, it will break up my paintign and the colourscheme of all the models I need to paint (in excess of 100). The way I see it, as the aspects would be a different colour scheme to the Guardians anyway, it would be a decent way of individualising the fluff of my army. Also it won't restrict me from intergrating the two forces together on the field.
For the paint scheme, I'm planning on painting my Guardians a deep (but not dark) blue, but I'm not sure of what other colours to use on them. If I go with this idea, I think a contrasting colour for the aspect force would be good, but I'm unsure on a scheme. I was thinking a nice vibrant red, but I'm not sure.
Is this idea viable, or shoudl I jsut stick with the idea of a single craftworld and a more unified colour scheme?

I think a unified Craftworld is a better idea, though I think I've told you again and again.
By the sounds of it your force is split into the aspects, and the guardians. These two factions are almost seen as seperate forces on a normal craftworld anyway, and generally have a pretty differing colour scheme depending on whether you choose to paint the aspects in their ritual colours or not.
Personally for you fluff, I still like the army of Vaul worshipers (you do have several tanks (maybe another) and a Wraith Lord).
Still, it's up to you in the end.

Thansk for your advice.
Anybody else have any thoughts on the matter?

At the very least, having two craftworlds will make painting more interesting (since you aren't going to be stuck doing assembly line for as many models).

Personally I'd try to avoid colours already in use by major Craftworlds, noobs might get confused. Perhaps a light grey with deep blue as a secondary colour?
The Two Cratworlds idea is interesting, and it gives you more scope with your fluff.

Hiya Morning Fresh here,
This kinda reminds me of my Kingfisher Craftworld, Ive got predominantly kingfisherblue (my own blend of three coats of blue/green/gold, of which I am extremely proud!) for my Farseer Morning Fresh and Avatar led guardian heavy part of the army with jetbikes and support WL. And Orange/gold for my Farseer Ambi-pur and Asurmen led combat/aspect biased army. I have several units like Wave serpents and a vyper that are parti coloured in both liveries to indicate their general utility, so I say go with it as the fluff is always the best reason to build a force, I don't use the aspect specific colours I use the kingfisher scheme.
Write your own fluff live your dream!! I mix the forces for whatever battle I face and the force looks groovy on the table. And it is extremely effective unless facing imperial guard for some reason!
