Title: Deader Than...
Description: well something that's dead.

Calaith - December 28, 2006 02:38 AM (GMT)

Hi guys,

It is very painfully obvious that this board isn't the most active forum around. I mean we've been going for almost a year now and haven't reached 100 members. Our posts are few and far between, and the members that are online are only here briefly to see if there are any new topics. Most often there aren't.

So I ask, is this just one of those decompression periods we're going through again because everyone is away on holliday, to busy to sign on, etc. Or do we need to liven this place up some?

Its great that we're advertised at Warvault, and other sites, and on Astronomican. But what can we really do to liven this place? What will really attract new members to join us, and old members to return?

Because I am almost at that point of pressing the red button again, and sending the whole thing down in a screaming heap.

Don't forget that there aren't all that many Eldar players out there (I mean, compared to, lets say, space marines), and there are almost no DE players. It kind of limits your user base.

That said, its also a catch 22. You need active members to get more people posting, but you need more people posting to get members to be more active.

Its a pain isn't it?

Calaith - December 28, 2006 03:57 AM (GMT)

Indeed it is. We don't have many active members so we don't actract new ones. But we need more embers to join to become active.

There aren't heaps of other Eldar players out there. But there is an Eldar sight that been around for at least 4 months less than us. 150 members or something like that. :(

Captain Lithonius - December 28, 2006 04:17 AM (GMT)
Better network of friends? More site content?

I would recommend that this site start putting up things that people will come here for (other than the forum aspect). Articles perhaps? Army building, tactics, painting, modelling, interesting battle reports, etc.

TheEagle82 - December 28, 2006 06:11 AM (GMT)
Iuno... can't help ya. Its doesn't seem as dead as EI. Yeash... i even linked those guys with Boot Camp.

Problem is that more Guardsmen also play something Inquisitorial than Eldar.

But hey, if you can win me over theres hope yet.

Calaith - December 28, 2006 07:00 AM (GMT)

cheers mate. :D

Sure we have a lot of posts, but they were made over quite a substancial amount of time. This forum is really inconsistant, as we'll have people posting like crazy one month, and the next it'll be really dead.

But hey, maybe I was a little over zealous in my previous post. I guess I just wanted to get things moving again. Having only one entry to the last Golden Avatar was depressing.

I recon we should sit out a year. If we are in a worse state than we are now, then it may be reason to consider pulling the plug. Until then however, we just need to hang in there, and as Captain Lithonius said, I think we need to start writing tactics and articles and thsoe sorts of things to keep people interested.

Farseer Concerta - December 28, 2006 09:21 AM (GMT)
we could have a wet t-shirt comp, that would get some people in terested?

well mabye we should get a chain mail leter going telling every 1 about how good we are

Calaith - December 28, 2006 09:28 AM (GMT)

both amusing but not liked ideas Concerta.

Wet t-shirt comp? Anyone collect sisters and in the mood for a conversion?

I kid, I kid!

Chain mail will likely drive more embers away, as such mail really agitates a lot of people, me included. It would likely end up in the junk mail folder of most peoples E-mail, and never get read.

What about getting a Wiki space, like Boot Camp have? And fill it with fiction, models and tactica to show people that we have some serious Eldar players here?

Cal

Farseer Concerta - December 28, 2006 09:36 AM (GMT)
sounds good, but who would do it?
we would need a list of things that have to be on there

Calaith - December 28, 2006 09:45 AM (GMT)

I've just created a wiki space.

I guess people could simply submit articles to the moderators to look over. Or if we see an exceptional post we might use that. Or we may select people to put up an article.

Inquisitor Liechtenstein - December 28, 2006 10:06 AM (GMT)
Well seeming that I'm re-doing my army from scratch (using the old models) I could make a bit of a blog, and because I have a decent camera accessable to me, I can take lots of pictures, so thats something I could start thats on-going. Tactics wise, I kind of need to start playing Eldar instead of Guard more frequently to get a bit of a grasp on using the eldar on the field before I attempt any articles of that sort.

The Wiki idea is great, its something that we can all contribute to and it may drum up a little more interest.

The problem we have here at the Craftworld is we have a lack of decicated members. i don't mean dedicated as in they are always on constantly, I mean members that are able to give advice and varying views. At the moment whenever somone makes a post, there are three or four people that always reply to it, and then a couple of other people that are around at that time. There is little variety, and in reality we only really have had around ten or so active members that post at any given time, evn though we have 80 or so of them.

EDIT: anmother extremely serious issue we have is the fact that we are an Eldar and Dark Eldar forum, yet we don't actually have any full time dark Eldar players (except possibly Spaff), so that part of the forum has been traditionally dead for the majority of our life span.

Calaith - December 28, 2006 10:59 AM (GMT)

Spaff, Euleze, Kyng, Brak'hir and most recently theEagle82 are Dark Eldar members.

Euleze and Spaff are around constantly. Brak'hir used to be around all the time, but isn't often seen here much anymore. least ways not posting.

I'll be sure to mention that we are a dark Eldar sight as well though.

A walk through of your new army would be a great idea. Send the results to me in, either in a word document or via PM and I'll put them on our Wiki. I'll put up a bit of my fluff. Maybe rake the painting board for some kick arse models.

TheEagle82 - December 28, 2006 07:36 PM (GMT)
Yeah, i can keep the section afloat by myself. I DO live online... :D

So... lets the Arena games COMMENCE!!

More slaves are needed. FORM THE RAIDING PARTIES!!

Spaff - December 30, 2006 11:54 PM (GMT)
lol, these forums cannot go! Out of all the forums I am apart of(7 different ones) this is my favorite forum. Everyone on these forums are kick arse!!

Calaith - December 31, 2006 12:05 AM (GMT)
Thanks Spaff. :)

Fear not, I won't be getting rid of the Craftworld any time soon.

Concerta actually had quite a good idea I hadn't thought of. And that's reviving the old newsletter we going to do, which never actually got past 1st edition.

I think something with a bit of fluff, a few pictures of models, and maybe some tactica each week would be alright. All members could contribute, wether it be through direct involvement or simply through admitting stuff to go into it. We could then perhaps put it in a PDF and advertise it on other sites? And one idea of his I really liked, was interviewing members on the site about their armies, asking about fluff, unit choices, painting techniques and colour schemes, etc.

It's a shame GW shut down their forums actually, because old sites like Boot Camp and CSG got a lot of their members from there...wish I'd thought of that when it was still there.

Spaff - December 31, 2006 03:34 AM (GMT)
Yea..GW forums went down as soon as I joined..lol, I was a member for about..3 days.

You beat me..

I went there... once... and decided it wasen't worth it.

But then again i started the 40k forums at Boot Camp. So going to the GW forums just... sucked...

Incendium - December 31, 2006 05:15 AM (GMT)
Well, I am relatively new to this forum, and really like all the information here. I would love to help keep it alive in any way possible as it doesn't seem like there are many forums at all dedicated to eldar.

I'm redoing my previous Ulthwe Strike Force army (complete overhaul, i.e. stripping what I will reuse and repainting, and buying the rest), so will probably be focusing on the modeling aspect more than tactical at the moment. If you want, I could make a blog of my progress, kind of like the Salamanders blog I have used to chart my progress (click on my sig).

And I'd be happy to contribute to articles you put out (probably not on a weekly basis, but I could put something together monthly), whether step by step painting guides, or what little tactical experience I've garnered from the small battles I will be doing.

Just some thoughts.

Inquisitor Liechtenstein - January 1, 2007 05:54 AM (GMT)
Incendium, even if we wern't currently in need of more attention we'd love you to do those things :D Anything that you can do would be highly appreaciated.

darthken - October 20, 2007 01:09 AM (GMT)

well the site is cool but i think that the older sites (druchii.net) just have a monoply on nearly everything.
because they have lots of people posting all the time, and they post on everything not just dark elves, makes it difficult for up and coming sites to gain and keep members.

I would never have found this sit if it wasn't linked on druchii.net
but i hope to be around for a while to keep things moving along

Calaith - October 21, 2007 12:17 AM (GMT)

I knew that things weren't going to take off straight away. I did however expect that people would begin posting regularly once we hit about 100 - 200 members. Sadly because things were so slow to pick up a lot of the old members drifted away back to the larger more populated sites, while new members came to find an essentially barren forum.

Occasionally we get a member, such as yourself darthken, who posts heaps and attracts new and old members alike. It's very appreciated, and I hope that you do stick around and that others decide to return or join as well. We're just a little closer to realising the dream ;)

ive got the Mackay tournament coming up in 2 weeks so ill get everyone i can find there to log on and join if i can.

Spacefrisian - October 21, 2007 07:31 AM (GMT)
I'll try to redirect players with questions about Eldar from the Bolterandchainsword forum. (If i'am fast enough and they don't lock the thread down)

darthken - October 22, 2007 12:28 PM (GMT)
we seem to be getting plenty of guests though. I get to spend a lot of time on here because i do a lot of 12hour night shifts as a secruity officer at a refinery. ( hence in an office by myself with no boss looking over my shoulder :P :P :P )
The other night we had 6 guests on here, i gave them a welcome in the chat box they were here for ages reading everything but left without becoming a member.

So we are getting people here looking at stuff and reading articles but not registering.

Ill keep greeting them all though. We'll get there slowly just taking some time is all.
