To tell you the truth, I don't see what makes up a cheesy army. I see all lists as perfectly liable as long as I can beat them. :P

But if you mean by the fact that you've got three Wraith Lords and two uber characters, with only two tiny troops choices. Yeah thats a little cheesy. The reason being is that you've defied the point of the army list to make it really cheap without any Wraith guard so that you can take two uber characters and three wraith lords.

Cheese in my opinion, isn't when someone fields an insanely good unit. Its when someone fields a certain army in a way its not meant to be, so they get only its advantages. For example, an Ulthwe' army fielding only two squads of guardians simply for the black guardians rule, and then fielding tons of aspects beside that.

Its not exactly what you've done, but its a long the lines. And it will deffinately cheese some oponents off. (Mind the pun :D) I'd be interested to see how it plays though.

  Ouch. Most opponents would ahve a heart attack once you'd deployed your first three choices in a normal game of that size. That army would he a hell of a prick to verse due to the fact that most all rounder armies of that size wouldn't have the required heavy firepower to take out nine toughness eight armour save 3+ wounds.

Hardrainfalling - December 12, 2006 10:37 PM (GMT)
yes its just a thought and not an army i would play because it just doesnt feel right , then again its a good list when you have an annoying poor sportsman of a player u just have to beat in an annoying way

Inquisitor Liechtenstein - December 12, 2006 10:41 PM (GMT)
Either that or just run him over this your Land Raider Company :D

Actually a normal IG army would shred this list. You can fit a LOT of plasma guns and missile launchers into 1000 pts (and I do). By the time you crossed the board, you'd be hurting pretty damn bad.

Hardrainfalling - December 13, 2006 09:05 AM (GMT)
very capt as i also have a guard army and can fit a lot of missile launchers in a 1,000 points bear in mind though the wraithlord and rangers will outrange any plasma and will have cut a lot down on the way in, but yes a guard army would hurt :D

Captain Lithonius - December 14, 2006 01:45 AM (GMT)
I think you are vastly overestimating the abilities of those three wraithlords to cut through some 90 odd infantry before dying :D. Especially given with a bit of luck one of them will promptly explode in the first turn :).

If the Guard player ever lets you get to cc its all over though.

Hardrainfalling - December 14, 2006 10:16 AM (GMT)
ah but its not 90 inf is it? its just those that can harm them and i also have mind war and eldrich storm to pick off plasma and meltas from big groups and blast groups , yriel also kicks ass vs guard once in and the pinning from the rangers , worth a go though :D
will report back when i ve tried it

Inquisitor Liechtenstein - December 14, 2006 09:48 PM (GMT)
Good. I'll be interested to see how you fare :)
(Please tell us the expression on your opponent's face as soon as you've deployed your heavy support)

In order to kill the infantry that can harm you, you have to slog through all the rest. Your mind war is far from a lock. You can kill at best one model a turn with it, that is in range AND in LoS.

And on that note, where pray tell will you hide the farseer? The 5 man ranger units can easily be burned out by flamers, or killed with massed lasgun fire - and if you put the farseer with them they cannot infiltrate. If you hide the farseer behind the wraithlords he can't see targets to mind war.

Pinning is also highly overrated against guard, especially given you can only cause two tests a turn and any half decent guard player will easily have those affected inside an Ld9 or 10 bubble.

Yriel against guard is a total waste of points. Woo, sure he can kick guard arse in cc. But so can a slightly disgruntled small toddler with a stick. Plus once again you have nowhere to hide him properly. One krak missile later and splat.

The battle will come down to dice - whether or not the guard can roll well and hit/wound the wraithlords fast enough. And in an objective based battle, I'd be amazed to see the wraithlord list win (too slow).

I don't think this list is cheese at all. It has weaknesses and shortcomings just like any list. But people tend to whinge when they see big scary units that are hard to hurt.

Hardrainfalling - December 17, 2006 07:33 AM (GMT)
very good points, vs a small elite force like necrons or marines which i often face it might be good vs guard it would die fast, although the wraithlords can pick their targets being free from making ld checks or target nearest ones

i shall rethink ,
what would people recormmend as a HQ

(i have only WG, and rangers as troops so am restricted somewhat)
