Title: Eldar Vs. Bugs
Description: 250pt Batrep

Chivi'queleste - October 29, 2006 08:40 PM (GMT)
Tyranid 'Swarm' @250pts

3 Warriors w/ Devourers, Talons, and a few minor stat upgrades
2x 8 Hormagaunts (basic)

Eldar Swordwind @250pts (Guesstimated)

Eldar Autarch w/ Jetbike, Mandiblaster, Lance
2x 3 Guardian Jetbikes w/ 1 Shurikannon

This was just a battle to see if the Jetbikes were going to be as fun as I'd hoped, and to see if their free 6" move in the assault phase would be very worthwhile for a fairly expensive troop choice.

Terrain is standard, and was not an overwhelming factor in so small a game. Table was set up as a 4x4 forested ruin (how typical).

Bugs get first turn and advance over a small ruin and around a small copse of trees, moving on average 10" per Gaunt squad. The Warriors remain in the cover of a ruin after a 6" move. No shots are fired, and no mêlée ensues.

The Autarch and his entourage of motorized Guardians also advance a full 12" straight toward one of the two Gaunt squads and unleash a volley of shurikat/kannon fire before retreating back the way they had come. 5 of 8 Gaunts died during the salvo, but the remaining were in position to assault the Autarch.

Turn two for the Bugs showed one Gaunt squad trying to sweep around an obstacle to position for a flank charge on the following turn, and the Warriors clearing the rubble of the ruin, but still unable to appreciably effect the game at this point. The remaining 3 from the tattered Gaunt unit declared a charge and swept into the Eldar Autarch only to be dispatched before they could even lay a talon on him.

The Eldar response was to neutralize the enemy synapse and targeted the squad of 3 Warriors just as they had the Hormagaunts in the first turn. Moving away from the approaching Gaunt squad on their flank, all Eldar units positioned themselves just 12" from the Warriors and unleashed shurikat/kannon hell upon the Warriors, only to see one fall. Again the Jetbikes retreat 6" to remain out of assault range of the Warriors during their turn.

Turn three for the Bugs offers the Warriors a chance to take a few pot shots at some Eldar, but, needing 5s to hit, they manage to miss with all 4 shots. The advance of the flanking Hormagaunts is stalled and they are unable to assist the Warriors this turn.

The Eldar seize the opportunity to remove the Warriors from the table by advancing to within assault range and again unleashing a volley of fire from their Jetbikes. And still, one Warrior remains, only to be taken apart by the Autarch in assault. The 6" move by the Jetbikes again ensures that the remaining Gaunt squad will need to roll high fleet roles to be able to reach them on their next turn.

Turn four, the Gaunts attempt to engage the Jetbikes in combat but without the synapse of the Warriors, they panic and fall back, only to be cut down by both shurikat/kannon fire and combat during the Eldar 4th turn.

Game over with a complete annihilation of the Hive scouts without a single loss to the Eldar advance reconnaissance unit.

This was a very fast, and obviously friendly, game. Was a lot of fun, too. (at least for me.)

Sounds like it was a nice, quick and simple slaughter of an inferior race. ;)

Good job Chivi, thats how you exterminate those bugs! But most importantly you enjoyed doing it, and did it in style B)

Cheers, Cal

Ah yes, the good'ol bang and bugger off manouvre, very irratating to us non eldar players :) Back in 2nd gen, I use to use a unit of 5 bikes and 1 vyper in an arrowhead formation (vyper behind the middle bike) and swoop round the flank and into the rear of my opponents army. Even if they knew this was coming, still didnt help them much!

Another good trick (this one in 3rd gen rules) was to take a unit of fire dragons, whack them in a falcon, and do the same trick as with the bikes. First time I done this to a freind of mine's bloodthirster, he nearly cried!

That is pretty harsh.

Those tactics still work KB. ;)

Fire Dragons in a Flacon are beautiful, because you can get them in close, leap out and blast away at your enemy. Especially effective now with S8 weapons!
