Title: The Music Topic
Reaper - October 6, 2006 07:32 AM (GMT)
i just figured a nice little chat about music was in order here, as most other forums seem to have these and they never seem to die, on another forum i frequent this topic has been going non-stop since novenmber last year :P
anyway so we just post whatever we're listening to at the moment and talk about music in general (i'm a metal head myself, so if anyone talks rap... :D ) and providing links to band sites and music clips would be good too
here's the link to a song i am currently hooked on, Follow The Blind - Tarot, it's a bit heavier than what i usually listen to, but nonetheless i am hooked

I think we've had a topic like this already, but oh well. It's always a good discussion.
I'm a "Dark" rock person myself. This is a self named music genre which mainly consists of rock or metal bands with a menagery of music and vocal styles. But mostly they all have rather dark, morbid lyrics, or a dark sound to them.
My favourit band ever (thus far) is System of a Down. They are simply fantastic. I love all their songs for different reasons, but my favourit would probably be Soldier Side.
Other bands I love are Papa Roach, Evanessence, Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, and more recently Disturbed.
Most those are pretty well known.
Euleze - October 6, 2006 10:24 AM (GMT)
I'm with Cal there in the bands he likes, but when it comes to a genre I would prefer Nu-metal, so bands like Korn, Linkin Park, Stone Sour and of course the best band, SLIPKNOT! :)
But when it comes to music and rock will do me, I listern to the heaviest stuff like demon hunter to alternative like Yellow Card and Breaking Benjamin.
Reaper - October 7, 2006 02:49 AM (GMT)
i practically only listen to power metal, it's a hard one to describe though, some in the metal community call it "nerd metal" due to alot of the bands having very cheesey medieval/fantasy lyrics, which really suits warhammer, examples of the cheesey bands i listen to are: Dragonforce, Rhapsody, Hammerfall. Then there is all the other power metal i listen to like: Nightwish, Edguy, Blind Guardian, Sonata Arctica. And of course i also listen to Linkin Park (non-JZ), The Offspring, Nickelback, Metallica, Manowar, Tarot, Within Temptation
why i'm posting here's a clip for my favourite Nightwish song: Wish I Had An Angel
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fP1VZQsg-BE
Calaith - October 7, 2006 04:16 AM (GMT)
I wish I had an Angel is the only Nightwish song I've heard apart from Slaying the Dreamer. They were both unreal, I wish I could get my hands on more nightwish stuff!
Cal
Farseer Concerta - October 7, 2006 06:05 AM (GMT)
Blind Guardian rock,so do nightwish very good choice
i am a iron maiden fan too
but i am sad to say i also listen to...panic at the disco...i am so ashamed
but i am happy with anything as long as it is not rap or hip hop...or RnB for that mater

 Yeah I don't mind their songs because of their clear vocals and crisp guitar. Sadly their a bit boy bandish, and boring. I also am ashamed.

they're both very good songs, by the sounds of it you'll like most of Nightwish's newer stuff, because they're both songs in which Marco does some singing, pre-Marco is all Tarja vocals, so you may still like it, however i may be able to help you the Nightwish department, as i have all of their albums except for their very first one (which i'm buying soon).
and as far as panic at the disco goes... *cough* emo *cough* :P
here's another Nightwish clip for you all to enjoy, Nemo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAKf1gTx7qM
Euleze - October 8, 2006 04:03 AM (GMT)
I like Nightwish's Nemo the best, becasue of the guitar and piano peices. Also as far as a can remember Tarja has actually left the band and now they are back to Marco singing the songs.
I'd have to agree that panic at the disco is very Emo ;)
Another band that I like is Stone Sour, anybody else heard of them?
Calaith - October 8, 2006 05:57 AM (GMT)
Panic at the Disco...Emo? Bah! I'll have to hear some of their otherstuff, because frankly their dorr closing where the heck it's called song don't sound very Emo to me.
Reaper - October 8, 2006 11:18 AM (GMT)
personally i pay very little attention to their music because they are so emo, maybe their songs don't sound emo, but all you have to do is look at some band pics and it screams emo relentlessly :P
no, i have never heard of Stone Sour... what genre are they?
and yes Tarja was in fact fired from the band in October last year, however it was after their last concert on tour so there hasn't been any concerts since her removal, they are currently looking for a new lead singer and are already beginning to record their next album, scheduled for release next year
and if you like Marco's singing you'll probably like this band... Tarot, he's the lead singer in this band, here's the clip for another great song Pyre of Gods
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCoqC6-syWQ
Euleze - October 8, 2006 12:07 PM (GMT)
Ahh Stone Sour are a Post Grudge Band that sort of thing
Here is on of their songs Through Glass:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZX6j8xdbLiw
Reaper - October 9, 2006 07:59 AM (GMT)
that song wasn't too bad at all, it was a little mellow for my liking (but since hearing my first power metal, most things sound too mellow for me :P )
today i just bought myself a new album it's called The Silent Force by Within Temptation, so far i really like it, this band is technically classified as gothic metal, although i think that may be their older stuff, because this doesn't sound goth at all to me, but then again some people call Nightwish goth metal... so you be the judge <_<
anyway here's a clip for one of the songs from the album i just bought, enjoy... or else *shakes fist*

 why would anyone want to look emo, either way most arte posers, and i still count them as emo
Reaper - October 11, 2006 02:22 PM (GMT)
i ain't letting this topic die, i'll keep it going single handedly if i must :P
here's a band i recently found, i'm pretty sure they fall under power metal but i could be wrong, they're really fast and have some of the best keyboard/guitar combos i;ve heard, so here's a clip with a great song (largely ignore the clip though, it's pretty cr*p, just enjoy the song :P )
Sonata Arctica- Wolf and Raven

Reaper - October 14, 2006 10:38 AM (GMT)
i just bought a really good album today, "A Twist In The Myth", Blind Guardian's newest album, i really recommend it, it's great stuff, especially "Another Stranger Me" that song is bloody good :D
Farseer Concerta - October 15, 2006 12:48 AM (GMT)
i will have to get it then
Calaith - October 15, 2006 12:52 AM (GMT)
Currently looking for my wallet so I can send my brother to get me 'Ten Thousand Fists' and maybe 'The Sickness'. Ten Thousand fists at least is a really good album as I think I've mentioned before.
Meanwhile Arrow is burning me a copy of Evanessence's 'The Open Door.' I like this band a lot, especially for Amy Lee's vocals. If you like Nightwish you'll probably like Evanessence, the only problem (or advantage) being Evanessence are a bit more main stream.

what band(s) ar those albums from?
also, Evanessence is very good and i'll probably buy that album too, of late i have gotten hooked on bands with female lead vocals, Nightwish are my number one choice among those, but another couple of good bands with female lead vocals are Within Temptation and Lacuna Coil, from the Netherlands and Italy respectively.

indeed, it's pretty damn good, although this is the first Blind Guardian album i've bought so i dunno how good it is in relation to the others, and where i got it from it came with special bonus beer coasters with the album cover on them :D
here's some Lacuna Coil for those of you that are unfamiliar with them: Heaven's A Lie- Lacuna Coil

Calaith - October 15, 2006 09:28 AM (GMT)
Both 'The Sickness' and 'Ten Thousand Fists' is by Disturbed. I highly recomend Ten Thouand Fists, as it is just a really nice solid rock album. It has some really hard hitting vocals and great lyrics, but other songs use softer vocals. I just love it!
The Sickness I've never heard but another friend reckons its Disturbed's best Album. It'll have to be pretty darn good to beat Ten Thousand Fists though.
Following Reapers idea, heres a song called 'Stricken' by Distrubed from TTF.

yeah that is a very good song, but right now i'm hooked on the song "Jane Doe" from that same album (The Silent Force), i think it's that strange lazy voice in the backing, but my god it's good :D
Farseer Concerta - October 19, 2006 08:40 AM (GMT)

well from what i could hear those songs were pretty good, but i couldn't hear them properly because i have the new BG album cranked up in the background, so i'll have to listen to them again later on :P
speaking of Blind Guardian, i just realised i haven't posted any of their songs yet, so here's one from their new album A Twist In The Myth- "Another Stranger Me"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RVQ1NcTwQ4

Reaper - October 23, 2006 10:03 AM (GMT)

ok people, i figured it was time for some more Blind Guardian, one thing i have found with the video clips for BG is that they don't really put much effort into them, and they seem to like black and white...

Just found a really cool new band, a few of you probably already know them, they're called Apocalyptica, and despite the name they are not death metal or black metal :D I don't really know what to classify them as, because very few of their songs actually have vocals and when they do it's usually a guest singer. Also 3 or 4 of the band members play the cello, so it's pretty much metal instrumentals with cello, it's great :D
Anyway, here's the link to my favourite song of theirs
Apocalyptica- Somewhere Around Nothing

I love soundtracks from movies. Black Hawk Down, Lord of the Rings, Enemy at the Gates, Star Wars, etc. I will bascially listen to anything.
Reaper - December 6, 2006 01:51 AM (GMT)
i haven't listened to many movie soundtrakcs in my time, although i loved the music during the fight scene in Advent Children, that was some sweome sounding opera metal stuff there :D
Euleze - December 6, 2006 03:53 AM (GMT)
Yeah I've got that soundtrack it is awsome! :)
