Title: Engines Of Vaul
Description: what are they?

Hardrainfalling - September 17, 2006 11:47 AM (GMT)
okay have came across a few references to the engines of vaul, eldar cobra , scorpion heavy grav tank and revenant titan are all said to be engines of vaul so it implies the biggest of the eldar anti grav skimmers (yes the titan is a skimmer !!!)
so does anyone know any more? who or what is Vaul? what other things are engines of vaul?

Vaul was one of the Eldar gods. I am currently unsure exactly what his role was, but he constructed a lot of things (most notably the Blackstone Fortresses). It would take me a little while to look it all up and give you a definative answer, so I'll leave it to Cal, our resident fluff-master, who will no doubt explain it in detail off the top of his head.

You would be correct Liechtenstein.

Vaul was the Eldar god of the forge, who essentially worked to create weapons of great craftman ship and destructiveness. His most noteable creations were the Talisman of Vaul (also known as the Blackstone Fortresses) which were created during the War in Heaven to destroy the C'tan. He was responsible for the Wraith Guardian and Wraith Lord constructs to combat the Necrons, and he also created 99 swords for Khaine and one Fake sword. For this, Vaul was crippled by Khaine.

The 'Engines of Vaul' I would presume to refer to the Talisman. But if it is talking about them as well as other Forge World tanks, I can only guess that they may mean another super Grav Tank I have never seen. You'll need to supply a link to where you heard it though.

Cheers, Cal

the forge world books describe 2 super heavy eldar grav tanks and the revenant titan as engines of vaul

Well then I can only imagine that either Vaul created the revenant titan, or their god gave them the technology the Eldar required to make the titans.

OFF TOPIC vaul is also a high elf god!!

You'll actually find that there is a lot of similar fluff betwen the High Elves/Dark Elves and Eldar/Dark Eldar.

The crossover between Fantasy and 40K is nearly total. The Gods are the same, as is the fluff. Although GW are slowly trying to shift that. Ie: removing the squats (space dwarves), etc.

Engines of Vaul are superheavy tanks, titans, etc. Eldar superheavy tanks like the Tempest (huge anti-tank laser superheavy tank), the Cobra and a number of others would all qualify as Engines. If you really want I can dredge up some old fluff for these tanks/titans and post them here, I'm an old Epic player where those sorts of things were standard choices (and I still have all the old models too, including the old revenant titans which look awesome - giant wraithguard!).

Way back in the day when they brought out 2nd edition Epic (I still consider Adeptus Titanicus to be 1st Ed Epic), thr title "Engines of Vaul" was an honourific given to the super-heavy vehicles, as the Eldar name all their weapons and vehicles with unique names and titles, often drawn from Eldar mythology.

It wa snever suggested that vaul himself built these weapons but they where named "Engines of Vaul" to honour the Smith God.

But GW has a habit of changing fluff, however I don't think they ever wrote or implied that any of the Eldar weapons or vehicles where personaly designed by vaul.

an engine of vaul is the pinacle of eldar anti grav technology. the technology was passed on to them by Isha (the goddes of harvest and mother to all eldar) and Kornous (God of the hunt and father to all eldar{not much is known of him}).

going into eldar mythology Kaine learned that Lileath (daughter of Isha and godess of forsight) devined that kaine would be torn apart by a great enemy, this angered kaine, and as a punishment to isha and kurnous he promised to destroy the eldar race. isha and kurnous would not stand by and watch this happen so they went to vaul and asked him to make mighty engines to speed the eldars escape from Kaine. Through the weaping of Isha Asuryan heard of Kainse plot and divised a barier between the eldar and there gods to protect them from Kaines wrath. this upseted isha greatly, being cut off from her mortal children, she went to vaul and pleaded for him to help her. Vaul was softened by ishas plea and creted the spirit stones out of her tears (Tears of Isha) so she could still see here children.

One day Kaine overheard Isha Talking to her children and went to tell the Pheonix King Asuryan. this angered him greatly as Isha and Kurnous had disobeyed him and so told Kaine that he could do with them what he wanted, this plaesed kaine graetly as he still feared that lileaths prophecy would come true. He made the parents of the eldar his prisoners, and though he could ot kill them he ensured that they were in constant pain.

then we go into the story of the SWORDS OF VAUL.

I kind of went beond my point, any way vaul made engines for the eldar, that were never used until after the fall. the most powerfull anti grav engines that make vehicals seem almost weightless.

i hope this is clear enough for you

well it would be but i think the people were talking technical terms not mythology terms.....

paul_fib - November 5, 2007 08:17 AM (GMT)
yes but to understand eldar technology is to understand the reasons for its development and its mythological purpose.

if you'd like me to tell you in a technological way, thats all you had to say
