Title: Eragon
Description: The movie

Calaith - August 25, 2006 12:46 PM (GMT)

I was surfing the internet today, and cutting a long story short I accidentaly stumbled upon a trailer for the new Eragon movie.

Bit of background history. Eragon was a book about a boy and a Dragon, and had very similar qualities to a lot of other books and Movies (LotR, and a bit of Star Wars in there as well.). The book is a bit below our general age group, but it was still quite enjoyable, especially when it came to the sequal Eldest.

Anywho, there had been a very scarce talk of this becoming a movie, but it turns out its going to be released later this year. Looking at some screan shots though I am not liking it. The few picters I have seen look scaringly similar to the Harry Potter film trailers, and the movie looks as if it is going to be very childish. Plus the 'Urgals' in the film, look nothing like they are described in the book. They look simply like men with really badly applied face paint....

In conclusion, I'm not advising our older members to see this movie....looks as if its going to be more for 14 years olds at best.

Cheers, Calaith

Hmm speaking of eragon, did you guys like the book? Because some of my mates read it and they loved it, but i just didnt see what was so good about it..

So if the movies going to be any worse than the book (imo) then i dont think ill bother seeing it anyway lol

Like I said, if your over 16 don't bother with the film. I'm betting it'll be aimed at younger teenagers such as 13-15 year olds.

I personaly liked the book, though the first one was probably a bit below my age. The Second book 'Eldest' however, really complaments Eragon. If you were a bit iffy about Eragon, read Eldest before you make up your mind.

However, the relationship between Saphira and Eragon is admittedly, at times, very similar to the relationship between trainers and their Poke'mon. Makes you laugh or grimace in disgust.

Or both lol

While we're on the topic of book/movies did anyone read stormbreaker??? its a bit of a younger aged book but its still good, they better do a good job of it in the movie...

I've never read it, and frankly the movie looks similar to "Agent Codie Banks", which by no means impressed me. Even though I was 13 when I saw it.

Still, could be a little better. I'll pick up the book if I see it.

Blah! Agent Cody Banks was a discusting and vile excuse for a movie! The fact that you've even mentioned it make me want to put on my suit and hat, roll you up in a carpet and throw you off a bridge!

back on topic: i'll probably end up seeing the movie, simply to compare it to the book series, however if you want a good fantasy read there is nothing better thatn the "Wheel of Time" series by Robert Jordan, Eragon was a bit on the little kids side (it's stocked in the kids section in book stores :P ) , and i read it too fast because it wasn't very in depth (compared to tWoT at least) but it was still ok and i'll get the third book just to finish the series

Necromancing this old post, I have decided to do a review after seeing Eragon today.

Absolute rubbish! Do not see this movie! Especially if you liked the book.

Not only is the order of things totally screwed up, a lot of the personalities of the characters are also changed pretty badly in the movie. As an example Arya the elf is supposed to like Eragon, but have no other 'feelings' for him what-so-ever. In the movie the two of them are a rating away from being all over each other.

Some of you will say: who cares if the story line is stuffed up, it still might be good for people who haven't read the book. Frankly the movie was boring anyway. It spent far to much time concentrating on Eragon and Saphira's sickeningly cliche' and corny relationship (important to the plot but way to driven in the movie) and less time concentrating on the action and fighting. This makes for an incredably dull film, and even when the battles begin they are quite short and nothing compared to the awesome battles seen in the LotR trillogy.

Finally you may point out that it is designed for younger teenagers. My brother is only recently 13, and he found the empty popcorn box more interesting. I was embarrased that I had told him he would enjoy it.

No offence to Christopher Paolini, his books were quite good. But the people he entrusted to make the film have done a poor poor job. I shudder to think what will become of Eldest if they decide to turn that into a screan play as well.

The film wasn't all bad. There were some good preformances from Jeremy Irons as Brom, who was really quite amusing. (and not in a bad way) Robert Carlyle did his best as Durza the Shade, and looks suitably creepy, but realistically the script was weak making the roll bad. And finally Garrett Hedlund does well as Murtagh, but isn't given enough screan time to really be allowed to show off his talent.

All in all, a real dissapointment, even the younger teenagers hated this film. Maybe its one for the really young kids, or just a cr*p movie full stop.

Hey guys,... saw eragon maybe like a week ago...

i think cal pretty much summed it up perfectly, it really was pretty dodgy /

i was with one of my friends who had read the books and was a big fan of the whole series, and all through it he was turning to me explaining what ACTUALY happens in the book and things like that... I myself havnt read the book so i went into the theatre with an open mind just watching it as another fantasy movie, but even at that it was disapointing. . . . . maybe extending the length of the movie would help, seeing as the book is quite a long one. trying to squeeze all those pages into 90 minutes or so was a bad move.

I have one more chapter to finish in Eldest, I liked it a lot better than Eragon. but for the movie, it was horrible. I was so disapointed, I just hope they don't try to make any more. I saw the movie poster before the second book even came out, looks like they were trying to make the next LOTR, and cash in. But I think LOTR set a new standard for fantasy, book to movies, and sadly Eragon fell way short. characters were boring to listen to, action/fighting scenes were lame, storyline hardly followed the book. don't waste your money seeing this movie, instead use it to buy the book, or go see Pan's Labyrenth.

was intrigued by Pans labyrinth is it any good? whats the basic plot?

jerseydevil - January 28, 2007 10:59 PM (GMT)
I really liked it, considering I knew nothing about it. it takes place in Spain 1944, around the time the U.S. enters WWII. a young girl and her preganet mother are traveling to an old mill in the country to live with her new Spanish army commander step father, who is trying to eliminate rebels hiding in the mountains. there the girl discovers the secret of her souls past, and has to complete three tasks to return to her other world kingdom. I don't want to give to much away, but I will say the creatures look amazing, and the story is really good. this is a fair tale for adults, there is a lot of blood and gore. If anyone has the chance they should check it out.

yep i saw the movie too, it totally sucked. Having read the book i was really pissed off by how much it cut out, it practically killed the entire plot with the amount cut out and then my friend how hadn't read the books was just plain confused by the movie and i had to explain what the heck was meant to be going on to him on several occaisions... waste of my money

has anyone seen the DVD? I am interested to see what special features or deleted sceens are on it. maybe there is an explination on why they didn't follow the book.

Chivi'queleste - April 24, 2007 10:12 PM (GMT)
My children have the DVD, but I've not seen it. From what I understand from their rambling, there is not much to add that has not already been said.
